  1. Hi Pete, In football we have goal line technology to prove a point. Did i not hear that somewhere at a northern do they had cameras above the decks to show weather original vinyl was being played. If this is done at many ovo soul events then the punters can make there mind up wether or not to dance to the originals or dance slower to the ones they are not sure about. :D Also whoever thought of doing this could patent the idea and probably make a fortune ( if they are not filthy rich already). ROY
  2. HI CHALKY, Thats a shame but understandable given the circumstances. Not an all nighter person myself but i know Lifeline has been going some time and for this to be cancelled due to the plethora of other one of nights/dayers and "jubilee" events just stinks. The likes of Cleethorpes and Brid have now been established for some time but i agree the add hoc nights put on by wannabee promotors who could not care less about established nights needs to be addressed in some way. Good luck with your next Lifeline, although i am sure you wont need it!!!!!!!!! regards ROY
  3. HI ALL, Need to know one or two good sites for researching the histories of artists and labels. Found a great one some time back but forgot to save it to favourites, DOH. :( Any suggestions greatly appreciated. regards ROY
  4. THATS A REFRESHING OPTION KEV. i THOUGHT THE NEW LEAD SINGER FOR THE TOPS DID SOUND LIKE LEVI BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY NO-ONE COULD REPLACE HIM,HE WAS UNIQUE!!!!! NOT TOTALLY CONVINCED ABOUT THE FRONTMAN FOR THE TEMPS THOUGH :g: ROY
  5. Thought the kids were into One Direction as proved at the Brit awards!!!! What a load of shite- dub-step and one direction that is. They obviously have not had a taste of the music thats played at That Driving Beat and Empty Bottles, but thats their loss. ROY
  6. BANG ON CHALKY! We really do not need to put an event on a pedestal as being the best. Everyone on here has there own opinion on what event and music genre floats their boat and are free to express it. I think what gets up peoples noses is when said promotors of events have to ram it down your throat that their event is the best/worlds greatest on all marketing material and flyers. A little humility and the "Carlsberg" attitude-probably the best- would not go amiss when promoting events. Just get out there and enjoy the music and always try something a little different to your normal venues and remember that unless a record was released within the last couple of years, they are all OLDIES. ROY
  7. HI EASTY, Got to agrre with the above sentiment. You always look out for "family" especially the people that you know and have known for years weather close to you or somewhat known from a distance. Still that way today although not quite as strong a feeling as back in the day. Nice to know that Swish is making regular appearances once again. regards ROY
  8. HI PETE, It was definately attitude- with a touch of arrogance   ROY
  9. HI MATTY, Looks like a good copy but not sure where he gets his prices from having looked at the rest of his site. Must be using John Manships as a guide :g: ROY
  10. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS OBTAINED ALL THE RELEVANT PERMISSION REQUIRED FROM THE ARTISTS AND RECORDING COMPANIES WHO RETAIN THE INTELLECTUAL RIGHTS FOR THESE TUNES  roy
  11. A proper and objective view of of what soul badges/patches are about. Only got two of any real note and those are an origanal Torch badge and original Leeds Central badge both bought around 72'. These badges i had on blazer and Braided jackets at the time but always wore them with pride as they were the clubs i regularly attended and loved. Never bothered with any of the "keep the faith and international soul club and Casino badges as every man and his dog seemed to have them which for me cheapened the club they were associated with. Whats the value of these today?-not that i want to part with them  ROY
  12. HI NEV, I think this quote at the top of his playlists says it all!!!!!!!  I think you need to lay off the falling down water at the Bishop cricket club  regards ROY Had a blast behind the decks, was just about able to see over them . Here's what I played from my albums, just about in order!!!!!!.
  13. No chance whatsoever then??????? :D :D ROY
  14. HI ALL, Remember Sheridans well with great affection. Was a regular on most soul nights on fridays before anyone thought about running all nighters there and it was the place to be for most of the yorkshire soul fraternity. Originally it had a stone floor until Rodz paid a visit to Floors -r-us and purchased a cheap batch of birch flooring which did the job admirably for many years. The venue certainly had a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere although it had its faults.Had my 50th there almost 10 years ago next month and some of the guys decided to set up a "second room" to play something a little alternative!!!!. What a fantastic night it turned out to be as i had invited about 120 and nearly 200 turned up. My lasting memory of that night was me leaving about 3-30 am with about forty or so people left in and Matchy coming in,record box in hand and asking "you dont mind if we carry on and play a few tunes do you". Apparently they finished about half seven in the morning. :D Great times and fun times indeed. regards ROY
  15. HI, DOES ANYONE HAVE A COPY OF THIS TO SELL? NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST VG++ PM WITH PRICE ROY
  16. HI , I enquired about what i believe is the record you were listening to direct with Richard at Drax on friday and he said it is Snake Davis!!!!!!!!!!!! regards roy
  17. HI MARK, If you see one on the MINIT label, it is not a boot but a legitimate issue. Not often seen for sale on here or on e-bay that often. Have not seen one available on Manships over the years either. So which is the rarer of the two issues and therefore the most valuable????????????? regards ROY
  18. CHALKS, Spot on regards both points. ROY
  19. HI CHALKS, Just looking at the events calender on soul nights for this weekend and if you look in the south yorkshire region of Sheffield,Doncaster,Rotherham and Barnsley there is in the region of eight soul events with less than fifteen miles between them all. Promotors overkill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROY
  20. Are we saying on here that every dj at almost every event up and down the country do not own any boots whatsoever and therefore does not play them at all?. As has been stated in many posts on this subject the biggest majority of punters in attendance at classic northern/motown/ soul nights are oblivious to weather OVO is on the decks and quite frankly dont care so long as it is to their liking. The rare/underplayed and nighter crowd are a different animal and god help anyone who plays a boot as their name will be mud. My take on it is if the crowd in attendance do not have a problem with it then there is no problem with playing boots, they pay their money they make their choice. Then i suppose the arguments will rain as to should the dl;s get paid for playing boots and should promotors charge in for the privelidge of listening to boots?. Let the bullets fly and try to put the lid back on the can of worms. regards ROY
  21. HI MARK, What a superb invention. My two favourite foods combined in one tin. Just like being at an oldies night and the dj then plays Joseph Webster. BLISS. ROY
  22. HI CHALKS, Sorry if the above reply felt like it was been made directly at you. I was just trying to generalise about peoples expectations of events. Yes i would expect you and many others to be a little protective of your part of the soul scene because of your commitment ,time and passion for soul music, but please dont join the us and them brigade as that particular club needs dibanding asap. Must visit Lifeline soon as i have not been since the days of Sheridans. ROY
  23. HI CHALKY, If you do not want the genre of music you play at Lifeline etc being called "upfront" then what would you personally call it?. I am not being confrontational here but just wondered.I Most of the negative comments I see towards the so called "upfront" seem to come from the oldies crowd, why don't they just stick to the oldies if they don't like what others are playing? There are more than enough venues catering for their needs. Leave those who want to listen to something different to do what they want. This sounds like someone being very protective regards his part of the big picture which is the soul scene. I can understand and sympathise with your post on this chalky but to be honest i have heard this works both ways. If you go to either an upfront/rare/underplayed event or a northern oldies night, with a closed mind as regards what you personally like then you will come away dissapointed and probably disilussioned all becuase your expectations were not met and you did not read the small print which indicated what sort of music would be played. THAT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST! regards ROY
  24. HI STEVIE, Your still only a pup young man but have a great zest and hunger for all things soulful. Without you and a few others of your age from over the dark side of the pennines and some from gods county then the future of this scene would be like that of a plant that gets no water........ It will just wither and die. :hatsoff2: ROY
