  1. I grew up with their Motown stuff and then purchased the wonderful Atlantic debut album featuring Ghetto Child,I'll Be Around, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love etc,and whilst buying occasional records of theirs tended to buy a lot of other philly stuff like the O'Jays, Harold Melvin, Intruders, Trammps etc plus also spent a lot of money on travelling and buying northern records at that time.I have many favourite soul groups of which the Spinner's are included, but I think some people especially younger ones are more familiar with the later output like Working My Way Back To You and Cupid type stuff which maybe is not a true reflection on the group's talents.
  2. Nice track.According to the book/cd I have, Dionne did a five week tour with the Spinner's in 1974 and Thom Bell had enough material written for a full Dionne/Spinners album but Dionne did not want this and recorded solo material. I can remember Track Of The Cat but not much else solo from her at that time. I don't know if the Spinner's Wake Up Susan is too commercial for the ATB dancefloors but this is a belter of a record. Steve
  3. Last year I purchased the American Import - Spinners - The Chrome Collection which is a hard back book history cum 62 track 3 CD set released in 2003. All the above tracks are included along with Truly Yours, I'll Always Love You,What More Could A Boy Ask For, I've Got To Make It On My Own and I Just Want To Fall In Love. Also some nice slower ones especially Sitting On Top Of The World. Please you liked the Rhino CD and like you say an underrated group.
  4. Just posted this in killer 30 second intro's which was about all was played. Steve
  5. Don't know if this counts but Sky Sports have just played the opening 30 seconds of Johnny Moore's- Walk Like A Man referring to Harry Rednapp in the build up to the Tottenham v Portsmouth game. The game will never live up to the record!. Steve
  6. At The Moment " Memories Of Her Love Keep Haunting Me "- Detroit Spinners My favorite all time tracks, which were played in my youth and before the term Northern was used but are still played nowadays are: I'll Always Love You- Detroit Spinners These Things Will Keep Me Loving You- Velvelettes Just A Little Misunderstanding- Contours Steve
  7. Lend A Hand- Bobby Hutton about 40 seconds, and always like the earlier mentioned Four Below Zero- My Baby's Got ESP Steve
  8. One of my useless bits of information-Baby I'm For Real came out in August 1969 so when Dave makes 60 he knows Money came out 60 years ago and the Originals 50 years ago. I'm like you Westy, born before release dates and charts were used!. See you at the next Drax all being well. Steve aka Jack
  9. Hi Dave, According to the book Motown The History by Sharon Davis, Money by Barrett Strong was released on Tamla and Anna in August 1959, and It by Ron & Bill also released on Tamla in August 1959. When you are 60 you have Baby I'm For Real by the Originals. Steve
  10. 56 years, and I dare say like many others on here, been involved in this wonderful music scene for over forty years. Steve.
  11. Big Boy Pete-Cold Turkey/My Love is a spaceship on Amy listed in JM's guide as Northern for £75. Steve
  12. A Happy New Year to Mike and the Soul Source team and to everyone else on the site. Steve from Sunny Scunny
  13. Totally agree and thanks also to Mark Bicknell and others on this topic for bringing to my attention the sheer quality of the album. Many standout tracks but the slower Lighten Up, Ain't That Love Enough,All At Once, All In Vain, Keep On Doin' Watcha' Doin' and both versions of Wear Your Natural Baby are my faves. Steve
  14. The Complete Ty Karim CD to Lighten Up my 40 minute journey to work. I consider myself fortunate to have a job at the moment and pleased to have such a great singer to listen to. Steve
  15. Another fairly recent one was The Four Vandal's - The Wrong Side Of Town Tailor made for the scene and popularized by a DJ called Taylor
  16. Also Mitch Ryder's- Breakout, but I think witnessing the clapping to Tainted Love on my first ever visit to Wigan, and the Cleethorpe's Pier clapping and vibrating to Frankie Valli's-The Night best capture the clapping culture to records for me. Being from Scunthorpe I will have to answer the Avant Garde bit when I go on Wikedia to find out what it means! Steve
  17. Hi Rick, Back in the late sixties at Ridding's Soul Scene we used to clap in unison to at least three records- Everybody's Going To A Love In, Let The Good Times Roll and Funky Street. Steve (Jack)
  18. I am awaiting delivery of the much acclaimed Ty Karim album to add to my large collection of CD's and some Vinyl on the excellent and very much valued Kent label. How's That Ady?
  19. Thanks for the reply Ian. Amazon opened their MP3 download section the other day and there must be hundreds of your productions available for download, from the 70's, the Motorcity recordings and your High Energy ones right through to the NS2008 album. I am sure you will be aware of this, but for Soul Source members interested in your productions over the years, there are plenty of tracks to sample and buy, far in excess of itunes methinks.
  20. Assume you only mean't UK releases. Whilst in Rotterdam for the Man Utd final in 1991, I purchased several of your Detroit Motorsound CD's, and on volume 9 is Find My Way Back which to me was the best track on this CD, closely followed by Johhny Bristol-Look Into The Eyes Of A Fool and Ronnie Mcneir-Ten Times A Day. The sleeve notes say you released 25 CD's in this series and I dare say a good number of these tracks have since been reworked. Got the new DVD but not allowed it until Xmas Day. Steve

  22. More Philly than Northern but always liked The O'Jays - Christmas Just Ain't Christmas (Without the one you love) Seasons Greetings Steve
  23. Di Dave, Did you see any soul snob's at Drax last saturday?. All I saw was a packed house and very busy dance floor dancing to music from the days of the Wheel and Torch through to releases from this decade.A great night of good music and friendly people. So if anyone does not want to attend events because they do not meet their personel ideals.,that is their loss, although I would only refer these people to being snobbish, if they criticised those who ran and attended such events just because it did not suit their own ideals. Steve
  24. I Got a double album CD from Amazon called The Year 2000 and My Favorite Person. The Year 2000 features To Prove I Love You and Girl Don't Let It Get You Down, Whilst My Favorite Person has the excellent I Just Want To Satisfy, which I believe came out on a single. Steve
