  1. Already seen a few from the Okeh label mentioned but how about a few more from there which must be considered "Stormers" Williams/Watson- Too Late and A Quitter Never Wins Billy Butler- The Right Track Little Richard- I Don't Want To Discuss It Major Lance-Investigate Also-Velvets- I Got To Find Me Somebody Joe Hicks- Don't It Make You Feel Funky Steve
  2. Just Because should read by Pure Gold and not Pure Cold. Steve
  3. There are some good tunes to be found on WE7 but I prefer Spotify. Last night I was trawling through Amazon's MP3 store and came across a series of Rare Southern Soul Beach Music albums with tracks from the Nomads, Harry Deal, Ellusions, Oxford Nights and many other rare tracks and a lot I confess to have never heard of before including a version of Pat & The Blenders- Just Because by a Duo/Group called Pure Cold. Steve
  4. Thanks for that Neil, I will be in touch for one. Steve
  5. Hi Neil, I Want the book, but can it be bought direct from you (Soulvation) or via Amazon?. I have seen it advertised by Bee Cool but until I receive old paid for copies of Manifesto or response to emails, I am loathe to use them again. Steve
  6. Hi Daryl, To me there appears to be a lack of communication between the people you send your subs to and Manifesto which are different addresses. I have emailed both offices without success before which is poor on their part. I notice Neil Rushton's book is available soon from Bee Cool and under normal circumstances I would ask for this as a Xmas present. Until I am satisfied with Manifesto's service and receive old issues such as September, I will not chance sending off for this. I hope Neil has other more reliable outlets for his work. Thanks for the comments to the post. I like many others have supported Manifesto since the early days, because it is a good read, and want to continue doing so, and whilst we are all grateful for the work put in, much of which is free, I am sure the sales would be higher with better organization. All being well should see you tonight for a couple of hours. Steve
  7. Hi Dave, Good news, quicker than expected issue 109 arrived today. Bad news, no sign of September issue 108, but still luckier than Jolly and others. There are adverts and numbers for advertising/back issues and subscriptions but getting response and distribution right leaves an awful lot to be desired. Steve
  8. dist Hi Dave, Issue 107 was a July issue with Brenda Russell on the cover and it said the next one would be September. I have subscribed to the mag since around issue 20 and having sent another cheque off in June feel badly let down.Having purchased books/mags,music etc from most of the major players on our scene, I have very rarely had a problem, and if so this has been sorted out quickly. Thanks Steve
  9. Has anyone seen the September/ October issues of Manifesto ?. I was talking to another subscriber recently who like me had not seen one for September. I have sent emails to Mike and Sarbina without response and this followed other problems earlier in the year which thankfully Ian Dewhurst gave some time up to help sort out, although I am still missing two from last year. Steve
  10. I was trawling through the vinyl at Tower Records in Los Angeles whilst on holiday back in 1983 and came across two albums; The Beat Of The Beach from Arista and Endless Beach on Epic. The Arista one included Right Here In The Palm Of My Hand- Garnett Mimms,Only Love Can Mend A Broken Heart-General Johnson, Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl-Patti and the Emblems as well as well known tracks by the Purify's, Trammp's, O'Jay.s,Clifford Curry,The Van Dykes and Shirley and the Shirelles. Endless Beach included- If You Don't Want My Love and Who Could Ever Believe It-by Robert John, Everybody Loves A Good Time,We're Gonna Get Married and Mama Didn't Know-by Major Lance, We're Acting Like Lover's by The Spellbinders,And You Know It and You Ought To Be Having Fun by The Tower Of Power,Nevertheless and I'm Just A Man By Billy Butler, People and The Love That You're Looking For by The Tyme's amongst others. I seem to recall buying Gone Fishin' by General Johnson/Chairmen on US when first issued but cannot recall the year, but these two albums were my first real introduction to Beach Music. Steve
  11. Since You've been Gone and it's brilliant. Used to be played in Scunny Soul Club's in the 60's. 7 Rooms Of Gloom is I'll Turn To Stone i think. Steve
  12. Just set it up on Channel 0120 so should work, Solar 0129 always does. Steve
  13. Surprised nobody has mentioned Glenn and Chris- Diamond Lights. Always liked Gene Chandler/Barbara Acklin- From The Teacher To The Preacher Steve
  14. I have the Bobby Womack Goes C & W album which features a track By Jim Ford-I'd Be Ahead If I Could Quit While I'm Behind. Not heard anything by Jim himself but Harry Hippie is one of the great soul recordings of all time in my opinion. Also got Millie Jackson sings C & W although not played it for years so will have to dig this out. Up The Iron Steve
  15. Jerry Williams- If You Ask Me( Because I Love You) Fell in love with this on first hearing at Doncaster Top Rank in the early 70's and always been by number one since then. Steve
  16. Mine came about the 2nd April. I bet the postman could not afford to go over the Humber Bridge. I have never received the March/April ones from last year despite leaving umpteen messages. Not been out much lately so see you whenever. Steve
  17. How about RECOVERY then. I bet most of us have had to perform one. Steve
  18. Security- Etta James
  19. Add Cleethorpe's Winter Gardens to that list- knocked down, and as far as I am aware no current plans to build on there. Had many a good Soul Night at Scunny Bath's with Rick Scott. Due to be rebuilt by the local council but bickering and the credit crunch have appeared to put future plans on ice for awhile.
  20. This was the CD which I commented about earlier in the thread. I got mine via Amazon.Another CD very similar in appearance and with poor sound quality is The Essential Northern Soul Story also on Goldmine. Years ago I had a catalogue from a company called Marginal records with numerous Motown/Soul CD's for sale all looking somewhat dubious!. Slightly off topic while I have been typing this Come On Train was on a Visa advert on Sky Sports. Steve

  22. Picked this up in a bargain shop, and not really liking it then, I swopped it with one of the Cleethorpe's Pier DJ's (Ginger I believe) during one of the Pier all-nighters for some EMI disc boots( those that used to weigh a ton) of current biggies. I still have the boots and would not mind swapping back if possible. Steve
  23. Something Fishy Going On- Universal Minds You're The Love Of My Life- Brenda Lee Jones ( Think it was played at Mecca) Sending My Best Wishes- Garland Green ( Already mentioned but a personel fave ) Heart Be Still- Jackie Moore ( As above) Sister Sledge- Love Don't Go Through No Changes With Me Steve
  24. And my fivepenneth, always been in my top ten since the mid seventies: Jerry Williams- If You Ask Me Tomangoes- I Really Love You Detroit Spinners-I'll Always Love You Velvelettes-These Things Will Keep Me Loving You Bobby Womack-Harry Hippie Steve
