  1. Marvin Gaye-Manchester Appollo Four Tops-Sheffield City Hall 1970 Stevie Wonder-Sheffield City Hall 1971 Millie Jackson-Manchester Appollo Teddy Pendergrass/Stephanie Mills-Las Vegas 1981 In that order but never seen my all time fave singer Bobby Womack.
  2. About 1967 at local youth club some older teenagers left me a bunch of albums to look after and play whilst they played table tennis and chatted the girls up.Mostly stuff i had not heard of Arthur Conley,Sam & Dave,Drifters to name a few.Started to search local shops for soul records to play at the club and a year later was taken to Riddings Soul Scene in Scunthorpe where the Contours,Elgins,Spinners and records spun at the Mojo and Twisted Wheel were also played by a guy called Fred Benson.I Got friendly with Terry Samson and he asked me to DJ a soul night at the Winterton Rangers which managed to clash with Edwin Starr appearing at the Oswald in Scunthorpe. As i got older the same guys who introduced me to the music started to take me to the Attic and Top Rank in Doncaster where i heard records i had never heard before and saw the Drifters(Actually the Invitations) and Junior Walker. As my older mates left this scene ,younger ones having heard my records at the Youth Club ,came on board and with the help of Rick Scott's knowledge of the scene, his local soul nights and fantastic record collection, the rare sounds and travelling to venues further a field continued. A lot of great singers and friends have died over the years, but one thing never has and that is the music ,and to those guys who asked me to look after their records, i am eternally grateful to for starting me off on the best journey of my life.
  3. received an update from Amazon saying should be due early next week.i'll wait with baited breath.
  4. Got to agree there Malc.I bought this 45 on spanish polydor whilst on hols in Lloret in 1972 and since then collected all her albums until about the sings country one.Great voice especially on slowies.Saw at the Manchester Appollo twice in the seventies and great live.
  5. Also there. Was this the night the World Column record was given out?. For the very first all-nighter me and my mate Fid travelled to Grimsby to spend the day at Rick Todd's and after watching local rivals Grimsby Town along with Chris/Dick Jervis we all clamboured into a van and headed to the Goolie Vikings where Toddy and gang were doing a pier warm up night.Don't know if you were there Spot because i did not know you until the Pier got going, but if my memory serves me correct, Toddy and Co had been double booked with two strippers whom i think went home clothes and all intact. After Viking's we went to Cleethorpes where the rest is history with fantastic memories and many never to be forgotton friendships. Would also be nice to here from anyone else who went on the Northern Soul Humber Cruise with Ginger & Eddie behind the decks that night.
  6. Received the latest edition of Kev's book from my wife for christmas and any soul music present is better than the usual socks etc and whilst everyone has different opinions about the book and contents, to me one glaring omission is Herbert Hunter's-I was born to love you which to me has always been a popular record on the northern dancefloor. Seasons Greetings to everyone
  7. Seem to recall hearing Bob's -Blowing my mind to pieces at the Doncaster Top Rank in the early seventies then buying the yellow boot . In my all time top ten fave records and having the SWONS video i echo the sentiments of everyone else regardings Ian's work.
  8. Yes ,but also another of Garland's Spring recordings Sending My Best Wishes which i prefer and like Bumpin' and Stomping is very rarely played at venues i have attended.
  9. I can remember Soul Coaxing by Raymond Lefevre played in soul venues many years ago, and i believe a radio dj used this a lot on his show but cannot remember which one,
  10. The Mood Mosaic version was played regular at the Riddings Soul Scene in Scunthorpe around 67/8 when Wheel goer Fred Benson was the main DJ. Going from memory i think this followed the three closing records which were It's So Hard Being A Loser, I want to go back there again and I'm Gonna Miss You. I actually played this at a fund raising night this last saturday and introduced this as DLT's theme tune which it was many years ago.
  11. Hard to read the matrix but it looks different to the yellow/blue copy with white edges.I have never seen an original copy only photos but thought form these photos the stripes were a much darker orange hence my original post.
  12. Just noticed a current bid of £400 for Mel Britt-She'll Come Running Back on Ebay. Unless my fading eyesight is getting even worse this looks like the second issue copy. I am right?
  13. Got the single, the other side is another fine tune-What a wonderfull night for love- which i have heard played in recent months. What about Clara Ward-The right direction,Dottie Cambridge-Cry your eyes out, Ad-Libs-Nothing's worse than being alone, Jackie Moore-Both ends against the middle, Ive Got to have all of your love-Mill Evans to name a few more that i have not heard at venues i have been to for years.
