  1. Just spotted this earlier - like yourself, interested to see them perform.
  2. Guessing that's the Questlove Summer of Soul? Even if not, I'll nominate that if it counts.
  3. Just heard it earlier today via Simply Soul sound samples - excellent track!
  4. Fascinating listening Chalky thanks. Hopefully Sidney and others involved with Shrine felt uplifted by the interest in their recordings, even if they didn't end up emulating the Stones!
  5. Strangely similar Phil, in case you've not come across this, is a wonderful recording by Gil Scott-Heron released in 2010:
  6. That had me salivating! I loved buying soul packs, but never got from from Oldies Unlimited. Sounds like I missed out....
  7. Not much information on this link to the Gallery event but if people know a bit more maybe chip in with a bit more detail. https://www.whitechapelgallery.org/events/soul-bag/?utm_source=Whitechapel+Gallery&utm_campaign=bed97d935b-Exhibitions+Monthly+-+Nov+2018_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b9a2c76a12-bed97d935b-253330905&mc_cid=bed97d935b&mc_eid=28e9a0a770
  8. The 1st pair of episodes came over strongly; looking forward to the final two.
  9. Mine came this morning at last. No bubblewrap, just a card envelope that looked like the company sell calendars rather than records. The single was in a relatively stiff sleeve wrapped in shrinkwrap type plastic. That was it. No delivery note inside, no apology from Charly for the delay. And no notice anywhere that the contents were fragile, shouldn't be bent etc. Thankfully the postie rang the bell and handed it to me rather than trying to get it through the letter box.
  10. Saw a post by @Eddie Hubbard on Facebook that his arrived in a jiffy bag, not even with a card to stiffen it, noting "Do not bend" on the package. Charly charged £4 for P&P; mine had better not be broken when I finally get it!
  11. My box set of the singles arrived this morning. Excellent photos and information in the accompanying leaflet (as you'd expect with Kent). Although I've got several of the 'This is Loma' compilation LPs, these are my first Loma singles, and what a joy they are to behold! Looking forward to a session listening to them all later on today. Thanks @Ady Croasdell
  12. Finally had an email from Charly to say my order ((94 East) has been dispatched. Hopefully same for everyone else too.
  13. It would be nice if Charly actually contacted people directly who have ordered the records to note the delay and maybe even apologise for it even though it's (presumably) not their fault.
  14. You took the words out of my mouth. Two extremes in terms of the quality of planning and selection of material to present a story.
  15. Just noticed that along with the "When Motown came to Britain" documentary on New Year's Day at 10pm on BBC2, running just before it at 9pm same side is a documentary on Lamont Dozier "Motown Master: Lamont Dozier at the BBC". Definitely recording both of these.
  16. No, not yet. As you say, post will be disrupted at the moment. It looks like they are due for release on 9th December, so with the next strikes due on 23rd & 24th, the window for arriving before Christmas is closing! Mind you, I fully support the posties
  17. Arrived today, along with a copy of Mary Wells 'Love letters' and the equally good 'Hands off my baby' that I'd ordered at the same time but had to wait for Cole Williams to come in. 2 great records, and as this thread is showing - plenty more out there!
  18. Finally had notification that it's been sent out. Simply Soul have announced that it's now in stock. https://www.firstexperiencerecords.com/product/cole-williams-with-soul-tune-allstars-a-better-woman-organized-7-vinyl-pre-order-in-stock-early-november-2022/
  19. Interesting - need a bit more info please....
  20. Hi Graham, and welcome to Soul Source. The only book I've got that seems roughly appropriate is 'Temples of Sound' by Jim Coogan and William Clark, published by Chronicle Books in 2003.
  21. https://acerecords.co.uk/loma-northern-soul-classic-revelations-1964-1968 This looks interesting, both the CD and this set of 7 45s. Due to be released late January in the new year. Came across it via the Ace email newsletter today.
  22. Covered in today's Guardian, at least the online version of it. Mainly stoking up differing stories of the discovery of the record between Russ Winstanley and Richard Searling: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/nov/19/bruce-springsteen-cover-reignites-row-over-lost-northern-soul-classic
  23. Interesting range; I went for the 94 East in the end.
  24. Looking forward to this arriving sometime soon, I believe it gets released this month:
  25. It'll have to be catch up if it's available for me - I've been reading it was really good.
