Great double header 7". A side on British Kudu, 1977, was "Could heaven ever be like this" and B side "Turn this mutha out". Both excellent. What I love about records like these was that despite being into Northern at the time you couldn't miss the quality and excitement of the music. So you bought it and kept it. Same with stuff like Jazz Funk at Birmingham Locarno, Reggae, you name it. If it's great music you hang on to it, and often you get that sense that it could work in a venue aimed at Northern if dropped into a varied set.

Peerless. Having said that, I've found lots of other compilation labels bringing sounds to me that I didn't know or own as well. One of the reasons tape swapping was so brilliant back in the day.

Hi Mike, Just to note that Banbury has its own distinct areas of deprivation, though not perhaps an overall statement applying to the town as a whole. 3 of the electoral wards are assessed as being in the highest 10% of deprived areas in the whole country. Like parts of Oxford, London, and lots of places around the country, these can sit by side with wealthier areas, and even within those wards there will be plenty of people who might be surprised to be described as 'deprived'. I don't mean to say this to take away from the difficulties of Easington (oddly enough the name of one of the other electoral wards in Banbury!), but just to say that while Banbury is a great place and has a successful soul club about to hit the 10th anniversary, it's not the image of leafy rich Oxfordshire and Cotswolds that some might think. Good work from Julie at Saturday's event, looked like it could go either way and things did seem to settle down. Seems that a polite word works wonders at various evenings. Sean

Bobby Womack is due on the West Holts stage at 9.30pm. Just listened to John Humphries interviewing Mick Jagger on Radio 4; sounded good, should be a great show tonight for everyone who's there.

My sister finally got me into the Stones, definitely some great music, but if they were up against Bobby Womack on different stages at the same time it would be Womack every time for me.

Heard on the radio and confirmed in Radio Times that Bobby Womack is performing at Glastonbury on Sunday. We've been pestering our niece to make sure to see him as she's there for the weekend. Be great if he got on stage with the Stones and performed "It's all over now" on Saturday! Sorry if anyone's posted about this, had a look around and couldn't see any threads.

I gather he's playing at Cornbury as well. Got the DVD a couple of months ago I think, but only got round to watching it last weekend - great story.

Notre Dame just off Leicester Square in London, used to run Friday nights, I think it was in 1982 or so. Really good venue in central London, great space. I remember Keb talking his way into getting records played and just blowing the rest of us away. Talking of Keb, Le Beat Route as well. Not sure how long any of these ran for. Big tracks I remember that may not have be his originally but came to me through him were Valentine Brothers and Jan Jones. And of course also the massive 60's Newies.

Yes got it. Main track 'Please forgive my heart' is worth it for that alone. I haven't got into the rest so much, but often that's the case for me.

Just watching Wilson Pickett (Land of 1000 dances) - love the scaffold built stage that looks like it's series of planks, doesn't seem to stop the show one bit.

God knows what's going on, but all our BBC channels are cracking up and I can't get anything on BBC 4! Tried setting it to record the later showing at 1.55 in the hope it will work by then. Anyone else not receiving on BBC?

Yep, got this lined up to watch and record, don't miss the Stax story - Respect Yourself either; got that on a DVD with 2 CDs as a little box set anniversary of 50th for Stax a few years back.

Just got back from couple of days in beautifuly sunny Wales and turned on telly to find this, fantastic! Only caught the end of the Norway revue film, Sam and Dave and then Otis. Ridiculously good. I've now set to record the other programmes and the repeat of this one.
