  1. Fair point, just a shame that the wider public get fed the same diet of it all having stopped developing when Wigan closed.
  2. Just watched it on YouTube. Don't recall a single mention of Stafford, Keele, 100 Club, or any of the numerous current and past modest soul clubs that have been running at various times throughout this last 30 years. I'm sure we could all add in plenty more honourable mentions, Lee Manor, Thorne etc, it would be great to have a programme that takes the best of the past (I'm perfectly happy with Wigan and feel very nostalgic about it), but that recognises the mix of past soulies and the new and hopefully growing young crowd and DJs.
  3. Sounds really worthwhile and a project with clear appeal within the scene; hopefully the content and quality will also give it wider appeal just as a work that documents the continuing development of this genre for people who are simply interested in music in general and/or social history. Look forward to adding it to my Amazon wish list!
  4. Look for Academy Recorfs in Brooklyn. Bedford-Stuyvesant. A1 in Rast Village may still be around,, and there was an interesting one called Tropicalia in Furs just off 2nd Avenue in East Village, round about 4th Street, maybe 5th, on the East side of the avenue.
  5. The Prelude for "I'm so glad" on the album is well worth a listen too.
  6. Sekonda - 'Sponsors the favourite Motown song' - I could hear a bit of music behind the short clip, but it didn't seem to be Edwin Starr.
  7. Pretty disappointed to see a few celebs popping up - what's the point? And the initial blurb seemed to celebrate their absence! Still, good to see quite a few key people who were part of it being featured.
  8. Write up in Radio Times "It's a popumentary as rewarding as anything you'll see on BBC4. The focus is on the people who made the records you love, and how they did it. Pointless celebs doling out fake memories are absent." Sounds good enough to me.
  9. Got my copy in a soul pack , can't remember whether it was 70's or 80's but it came in a paper cover of IRDA, with the text in a strip over the lower right saying "Distributed by International Record Distributing Associates" based in Nashville. You can see in this photo that at the time I wasn't very precious about the pristine paper sleeve but I did like the record and used to put it on tape swops etc.

  11. Hope the venues all get announced with ample notice, be good to get packed houses and great audience atmosphere. Well done Elaine and all involved to have stuck to this so doggedly.
  12. His autobiography is a great read; that man had a life. https://youtu.be/INwaF8MwfVQ
  13. When people ask "who" rather than "what" music you're into, Bobby's my man.
  14. Great story. What a find. Nice that it's written up.
  15. Ordered mine at the weekend, came Tuesday and played about half, and just listened through to the others just now. Thankfully all play fine, no skips or warps, and all labels correct too. I was lucky with the first set too, but more worried this time as the issues were coming through by the time I ordered this one, sorry to hear about other people's problems though. Price was still full when I ordered. Set number 000523. If a set 3 is to come out, especially as Richard comments on the notes that he held some class tracks back for set 2, maybe the key selling point could be that they are totally unreleased tracks? Never came out on 7", never an album track, no EP, and even no legal CD release either? This set is great, good variety, and great to have on 45's, but it's also great to hear stuff of this quality that never saw the light of day in any form.
  16. Didn't know she recorded 'Compared to What', nor that it was written by Gene McDaniels.
  17. Have a great night! Yes absolutely agree they show some really good stuff, obviously not all Soul but I suspect a lot of what I don't watch or record is much appreciated by people into different music as well.
  18. Just spotted that on BBC4 at 9pm tonight there's a documentary "Killing Me Softly: The Roberta Flack Story".
  19. Such important music for our scene, sad loss. Didn't hear the children's voices on the clip Ady posted - is there a different link?
  20. Many thanks Andy - added to Amazon Wish List!
  21. Hope you've had a great day in the sun! Looks like an interesting book, like the "I Love Vinyl" logo connected with it. Any idea on how much it will sell for and how to get hold of it?
  22. Berwick Street in London is promoting itself as the "Golden Mile of Vinyl" with Sister Ray, Reckless, Music and Video Exchange all in Berwick St itself, and Sounds of The Universe, Phonica and BM Soho all very close by too. Obviously not the only record stores in London, just a handy concentration of them. The record shops themselves, but also a vinyl fair, street food market and all pretty easy to get to in terms of central London. Runs from 12 - 7pm. Berwickstreetlondon.co.uk Enjoy the day wherever you go!
  23. Only watched the first few minutes so far but it looks a well made film and I'll watch the rest later. Thanks for posting this.
  24. Still got mine. Flip for 'Heart Break' - well worth a listen.
  25. Exciters "Blowing up my Mind" - again, towards the end of the record; "It's almost like eating beans by the pound, then wrapping up in adhesive tape from the waist down".
