  1. In my early years of being into Northern I was taken by Shack up by Banbarra, hearing it on holiday with a friend down in Bournemouth in 1976.
  2. Sounds like a good day all round.
  3. Yep, and a new one is always welcome.
  4. Cheers for that. It lists both programmes as New re BBC4 so worth a look. The first one is a documentary about the history of funk, with the second being a compilation of BBC archive performances. There's also Prince at 11pm but I'll just be watching the first two.
  5. The Story of Funk: One Nation a under a Groove at 9pm, followed by Genius of Funk at 10pm.
  6. B sides and junk shop finds were my main way of expanding my very limited collecting in the start. I still love going back over records, giving the other side a listen and realising that after all this time the track I wasn't so bothered about sounds so much better now!
  7. Maybe this bus? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Northern-Soul-Coaster-Soul-coaster-Motown-coaster-Tommy-Hunt-Wigan-Casino-/191165429565
  8. Steve, many thanks for posting those scans. I used to get Blackbeat and I'm maybe one of those oblivious to the politics in the day. I enjoyed going to Stafford but didn't go that much, and was equally happy listening to modern and got a stream of brilliant tapes through tape swapping with Dave Hitch over the period. It was all great to me. Must say, Pete's letters and some of the replies make their side of the argument well for a bit, but then do get heavily personal - as we all tend to when we're passionate!
  9. Just read the article - excellent stuff, thanks for posting this!
  10. I got this in a soul pack, I think from Soul Bowl or maybe Black Grape, and always liked this side and used to put it on tape swaps. But as is so often the case with changing tastes, give the flip side a listen "Hey Baby" - really nice track and one that I do think could get played out too. Sadly I can't help with dating it or linking it to who played it, but if it was one of those Soul packs I think I went for them in the early 80's rather than some of the different suppliers in the mid/late 70s when I tended to get more pressings in the packs.
  11. Good album put out in 2005 by Motown of 15 tracks all remixed by various people. My favourite was another Marvin Gaye track that I've always liked as an original but feel this worked exceptionally well with the remix too: Let's get it on
  12. Thanks for posting this, great group. Loved their performance a year or two back in Coventry.
  13. Eddie, if you've had any of these through your hands that's good enough for me! Order placed. Looking forward to the sound clips Ian.
  14. Great reading through everyone's reviews. I've got to wait for the screening in Oxford's Phoenix this Sunday, and have put the Blu-Ray that arrived at the weekend out of temptation's way (hopefully). Inevitably a few key details have leaked out via reviews here and elsewhere, but I'm hoping the atmosphere of seeing it in the cinema will be worth the wait - and then we can all head back and watch the Blu-Ray as well!
  15. Hope the release goes well tomorrow; I won't get to see it in the cinema til next Sunday in Oxford. Obviously therefore I can't comment on the quality or overall film, but surely there can't be any question that it's a fantastic achievement to have got here and big kudos to Elaine and all concerned.

  17. Just caught the end of a piece about Northern Soul on Radio 4's Saturday Live, just after quarter to ten this morning. Anybody hear it? It was pretty much the last moments when I turned the radio on.
  18. Oxford's Phoenix cinema showing of the film on Sunday 26th October has now sold out!
  19. From the album: Seano's Record scans

Cousin and her son just bought the last two tickets for the showing of the Northern Soul film at Oxford's Phoenix cinema on Sunday 26th October. It's sold out! The OurScreen website is brilliant!
  20. Seano

    Seano's Record scans

    Scans of various records.
  21. Oxford Phoenix was listed on the OurScreen cinemas which will show the film if enough people sign up. Hopefully it'll hit the necessary number over the next few days.
  22. It's a great double header - 'Baby can't you see' is the B side, a great dancer, and the A side is 'I'm still hurt'. The label is Sound of Soul, though obviously that's taking into consideration it's a Secret Stash issue. It was available along with the other two when I ordered them, not sure if it's still there.
  23. Mine too, and very happy with the top sides now after a few listens although it was the b sides that really attracted me. Great stuff, and thanks Mike for the original posting.
  24. There was a YouTube clip, I think posted somewhere here on Soul Source maybe a year ago, showing how you can paste wood glue, PVA, onto the surface, lay a small piece of plastic or similar into the edge so that when it dries (leave for at least one day) you have an edge to begin to peel it away. Worked a treat on a battered old Temptations single I had.
  25. I've asked Banbury's Odeon (odeon.banbury@odeonuk.com) if they'll show it. No idea if they have the flexibility to do this but anyone from Banbury Soul Club and the general area may want to get it touch with them too.
