  5. I've given about a dozen copies of this away over the past two years mainly to DJ's who'd never heard it Kenny Burrell was the last person I gave a copy to and he loved it so much he often includes it in his sets. Every home should have at least one
  6. After a year or so of polishing the act in my record room, I was both thrilled and petrified to be asked by Carl Willingham to play a short set at his and Maria's Wedding Anniversary party, back in 2007. Being asked to put your records along with your musical taste, where your mouth is, really is a leveller!!! The fact that it coincided with my own birthday made it extra special. After the most horrendous journey up from London (9 hours!! I kid you not) and beginning to think we'd never make it, we arrived with 30 minutes to spare. Any nerves were soon dissolved by Nick Hackett's pep talk and by the encouragement I got from seeing people actually dancing to my choice of records. So much so that I would have happily spent the rest of the evening behind the decks. A real baptism by fire to play my debut in front of such a knowlegable crowd but an experience I'll never forget and one I will always be grateful to Carl for giving me the chance. Incidentally, my 2nd set was in the Carl Willingham Suite at Middleton early this year. Having spent 8 hours working on the door that night and having almost no chance of getting into the room to get a feel of the room and atmosphere beforehand, this really was a scary prospect! At one point that evening, I had the task of turning away 5 or 6 non-soulies who liked the idea of an all-night bar. Believe me, that was easier than stepping behind those decks. Again, Seeing people dancing and the words of encouragement I recieved made it a far less frightening hour than I ever thought it would be. In fact, Maria had to almost physically drag me away after my hour was up!!!! LOL Dolly
