But Matt used the dreaded word FUNK in his description !! (how do you type so quickly?" "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

A little bit of research shows that you are correct, the Corey Glover form Living Colour was indeed in PLATOON. I was thinking of Corey Glover who did "Little Girl" which lies somewhere deep in my collection. In my ignorance I don't know if we're talking about the same Corey. I'd be disappointed if we were though as Living Colour don't sound like my cup of tea any more than Bruce Springsteen is. Thanks for the info. Kevin "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

I sat down to watch a late film a few nights back. I awoke at about 2am just in time to see the credits of PLATOON rolling up the screen and in my bleary eyed state thought I spotted the name Corey Glover. Don't ask me what role he played, I was still semi-comatose, and probably only saw the first 20 minutes of the film. Was this THE Corey Glover? Any other soulsters in TV/movie roles? Two more that spring to mind are Franki Valli and Dean Parrish, who have both had roles in my favourite series - SOPRANOS. - Kevin. "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

Once felt the same way with regards to Wigan Casino. ...And what are they doing to our parallels with all that waistband and all those pocket flaps and buttons ! How times change. Best thing is - 30 years on and they're still good times. "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

There was a previous thread on this, so it seems to be a regularly repeated piece of viewing. I don't have Sky so unfortunately can't check it out and may be speaking about the wrong set of guys but the following are my words of warning from the previous thread: So far as I am aware there is only one expat Scooter Club in the Alicante area. Should anyone plan to meet up with them during their hols etc, be aware that they have gone native and have a total disregard for any arrangements you may have made with them. It's a long way to go with all your hand luggage taken up with vinyl for a non-existent event  Actually they're probably nice guys, and I will try and hook up with the Orihuela Scooter Club in the future. Just didn't want anyone to make the same presumptions that I did. Kevin "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

Hi Phil. Sounds as though you're sorted now. If not, PM me, I have a copy I can let go. Kevin. "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

Think nothing of it. On second thoughts, you can buy me a drink at....er.....Lightwater.
-
What a coincidence - Moldie runs one in Lightwater!

A bit of a contradiction here. Surely the whole point of the smokers going outside is so that you aren't affected by their habit. Or is it that the constant opening of the door might create a nasty draught ! Anyway, the ban will soon be upon us, and is bound to affect some venues. Personally, I think I will stand far less chance soon of dying from passive boredom whilst listening to all you healthy types harp on about my smoking "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

I'll second that! Oh - There aren't venues in Old Compton St are there ?
-
A genuine mix-up then, but he should refund the payment and not just offer a credit note
-
Sorted. I guess I read into it something that wasn't there . That's what comes of staring at a screen all day on ebay/SS . Having the computer in a non-smoking room of the house doesn't help either - I feel like a trapped rat :threaten: . Couldn't be doing with this at a soul nite! Kevin "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

Of course. My previous input to this thread related to the envisaged problems of not catering to the needs of smokers. Now, whilst as a smoker I'm not happy with the no-smoking law that is being forced upon us, I do have to concede that non-smokers may consider our habit a nuisance/health risk, whatever, in an enclosed area. The freedom to be able to go outside for a smoke (your not forced to join us!) would in my view be a neccessity at any soul night. Unless I've misread your reply (apologies if I have) you would appear to want to condone the removal of that option or choice. We need to cater for all choices, that's why bars serve alcohol free beer (I think), and why we have 2 room events. Kevin. "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

CHOICE - yes, that's the word I was looking for!
-
It appears you have a number of replies frm non-smokers or social smokers (slight contradiction!) who do not envisage a problem. You do have a problem. There surely will be smokers who want to nip out for a quick puff and, unless you have an alternative plan, of course you'll be running up and down stairs to accomodate them. Is it really to much trouble to have someone on the door after 11? A smoker perhaps? Maybe suggesting or even supplying nicotine patches might help, but I doubt it will enough to prevent you losing some customers. I'm trying not to be negative but there is a glut of venues with the way the scene is at the moment. Maybe smoking policy as well as music policy will be a deciding factor in which venues survive. :search: I am of course a smoker. I also DJ, and have had a couple of recent venue changes with our set up in Kent. We had a non-smoking venue at the end of the harbour wall in Ramsgate, where even the icy winds and crashing waves didn't deter the smokers from getting their fix! Fortunately at our new venue (currently smoking allowed) the manager even put sand buckets outside for the smokers who wanted fresh air (I know - another contradiction), so that bodes well I hope for the future. I wish you luck in resolving your problem (or changing your venue), and await further views expressed on this thread for any ideas, as we have similarly organised "members" nights with no entry after 11. I for one need my soul fix AND my nicotine fix. Kevin. "STOLEN HOURS" RAMSGATE 21st JULY

I picked up a mint demo of the CHANNELS very recently. Think I paid £26. I haven't got round to playing it out yet though.

I don't believe it...............happened again on Sunday!
-
I totally agree! Record dealers add that little bit more to any event (ie empty wallet !) I often have a portable deck with headphones and a light available if I know that someone's turning up with a sales box. Or you could of course buy your own and the problem is solved, wherever the venue, without detracting from a darkened dancefloor.
-
Yes - people who spill/carry drinks onto the dancefloor. And...those who congregate on the dancefloor to chat because they can't dance. but worst of all... The "mate" who talc'd the floor from waist height - and transformed the decks into something resembling Santa's Grotto!
-
I've been criticised on this site for admitting to cutting records short. I don't think you should make a habit of it, but sometimes you've just got to do what seems right at the time. There are so many variables that can make each situation different. Your task as a DJ is to select the best option. Good Luck.
-
But that's an awful lot of paperwork - precisely who would deal with organised crime on such a vast scale?
-
What if.... There were no Modern rooms. The word "FUNK" had never appeared on a Northern playlist. The type of music we once shunned in favour of Northern Soul had never been re-invented... ...as Northern Soul.
-
I've had a copy of this since about '71, you can offer me £120 but you won't get it. Bumped into Dave Godin in London's Berwick St and he pulled 3 out of the box suggesting I buy them. The other two ? - BOK TO BACH.. Fathers Angels, and THE CAT WALK...Gerry & Paul. Like so many of my early collection, I disregard the label or issue. The value is in memories. You're mate can place whatever value he chooses on his records - they will either sell or he gets to keep them. -Kevin.
-
Don't anybody tell my missus that she bought a boot! I'm just getting her into the habit of looking through sales boxes on her own and parting with what she reckons is "a lot of money for a record". If only she knew Kevin.
