This is actually untrue and misleading. The European standard for both disposable and re-usable masks and including masks with valves and half face masks or respirators has 3 classes. These are FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3. I've also seen FFP2 called N95 and FFP3 called N99. These N numbers maybe an American Standard but I am unsure. Sometimes these masks are called 'Dust Masks'. The same masks may also be called Industrial or Paint Sprayers masks, or any similar title. 3M are one of the better known manufacturers. Their website now shows that respirators to FFP2 and FFP3 standard are unavailable as all stock is currently being used to supply Hospitals. FFP1 is the least filtering mask (80%) and is actually often used as a dust mask. FFP2 gives a minimum of 94% - mainly used in agriculture, construction, and healthcare. Currently used as coronavirus protection. FFP3 gives a minimum filtration percentage of 99% and is even better protection. A 'surgical' mask can, if it has a waterproof layer, protect against splashes of biological fluid. It will NOT protect against airborne infections or contamination from such as Coronavirus. A surgical mask is better worn by a victim/patient to prevent them cough splashing their surroundings. Please don't take this as gospel. I am probably meant to show links etc, but that is beyond me. If you wish, use any of the above for your own on-line research and make up your own mind. Stay safe. - Kev

Just friendly advice.......Funky? Blue eyed? Gospel? Your generally incorrect description almost put me off opening your list. Good luck though, - Kev

Damn, I feel sh!te. Just a cold and not even pretending it might be Corona Virus, but if my defences are lowered it's a worry. In '89 I was really ill for a couple of weeks and later it was discovered that the source of the London Piccadilly legionella outbreak that was occuring, was a water cooling tower situated about 30 metres from my open office window. In 2002 I was hospitalised as a procedural measure when it was thought I was possibly suffering from ricin poisoning. Third time lucky eh? I don't particularly want to go through that type of illness again, or even tedious NHS procedures, so while my defences are lowered I'm self isolating. On my second day now and it's pretty easy because I'm retired. Only 5 days to go and I might lay it on a bit so I can avoid all those little things that need doing around the house. Right.....time to wind the record player up. Keep safe, - Kev

Thanks for that suggestion Julian. I doubt HSBC will offer it as they've been withdrawing all the other 'extras' that originally came with my account. I may be changing banks soon though so I'll definitely look out for linked travel insurance. Thanks again....I'll get you a cold one! - Kev

I guess I fall into the "at risk" category, at least on paper. I'm 68 next month and I have Heart Disease. Since undergoing a triple heart bypass 4 years ago, quotes to renew my annual travel insurance have shown a drastic increase in cost. I was just about to shop around for a better deal, but think I will find this impossible following the Corona Virus outbreak. What I will do, and strongly recommend that others do, is renew my European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Mine expires in June but despite our departure from the European Union they can still be used and renewed, or initially applied for, and will be valid untill Dec 31st. The EHIC is free and allows access to healthcare from state providers on the same basis as a resident of the country you're visiting. This means at a reduced cost or sometimes free of charge. More info at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk . It's meant to be a supplement to your Insurance rather than an alternative, but if insurance becomes cost prohibitive or has to many get out clauses, then EHIC is better than nothing. What I'm also considering is driving to the Hitsville Weekender in Mojacar, Spain, in September. For me, a short drive to Dover, 3 or 4 hour ferry crossing and then a 1,510 mile drive through France and Spain. The French services are well equipped and cater for the many people that park up and sleep in their cars overnight. So, minimal contact with other travellers etc, plus far healthier and more enjoyable than hanging around at airports in my opinion. If we are still allowed to travel in the near future, then I hope that some of you might have found my suggestions useful. See you when I get there. - Kev

Why £300 Carolyn Crawford 6t's 40th Anniversary ?
Kevinkent replied to stevefrost's topic in Look At Your Box
I doubt very much that they have been booted - for one thing I am sure that Ace/Kent would be pretty active in pursuing those responsible through legal avenues. What is more likely is the old practice, which was worsening, of purchasing surplus 6T's Anniversary tickets solely with the intention of obtaining spare copies to sell on at a profit. I myself had 5 copies of one of the 45's, because I purchased tickets for mates who dropped out before the event. Rather than sell them on for profit I gave them away, to Billy Whiz who couldn't make the night, Russ Flegg in Gibraltar, and a couple of other worthy mates. (If anyone would like to do similar to me with the Carolyn Crawford - yes please !) In my opinion Ady has made the right move in stopping this practice by declaring a couple of years ago that the 45's would now be restricted to one per entrant rather than one per ticket. - Kev -
Hi Finley, and welcome to Soul Source. Big Bob was a great local character and I was saddened to hear of his passing some years back. I don't recall him having any involvement with Wilby though, nor was I aware of do's at Wicksteed Park (sometimes slept there if I was unsuccessfully thumbin' it back from Corby). That said, I left Northants in '71 when I joined the army, so maybe we're talking different times. Living at Moulton I was the right side of Northampton to visit the Nags occasionally with school mates and it was my intro to music venues. Then we moved to Roade and Friday night at the Blisworth Hotel became a regular outing. I wouldn't class either as Rare Soul venues but they were fun. When I left home at 16 I was thirsting for more. That's when I discovered Wilby, Earls Barton and the land of niters. That's why I have to read this book. - Kev

The Love RIghts - Talk of the town - Kimberlite Records
Kevinkent replied to Marco Codato's topic in Record Sales
Well, I've just deleted a long and rambling reply prior to posting it. No need - I've made my point. Incidentally, what I paid for a record was surely the price?? Good luck with your sales, it's a nice double sider. -
The Love RIghts - Talk of the town - Kimberlite Records
Kevinkent replied to Marco Codato's topic in Record Sales
I paid £4.99 for my new copy which was purchased at the end of December. If you are Kimberlite's official Australian distributor, how do you justify, just 6 weeks later, offering these at £25 ? This is precisely what is wrong with the marketing of so many new releases IMO. Inflated prices should be justified not assumed. -
HMRC and/or the Post Office are possibly employing/training more customs staff on import tax checking in preparation for brexit and when the tax will eventually be due on goods from Europe. In the meantime that means more staff to practice on/look out for, items from the rest of the world which may otherwise have slipped the net. Just a guess. - Kev

BBC - Fake Britain - Vinyl Bootlegs - 28 Nov 2019
Kevinkent commented on Mike's article in News Archives
I care. If you play out and can't afford an original, buy a different original that you can afford. That way we won't have everyone playing the same tune. - Kev -
Nail on head. If not, how would the audience know when to start applauding? It's only the "Egyptian" bit at the end that provides the clue, particularly in a live set which would be likely to be extended. The applause starts before then. It's fake. - Kev

Without a doubt George Carrow is the one that does it for me. It's the version that harks back to my youth and is the one that, when unknown to me, Dave Godin recommended to me along with a handful of others in one of London's Berwick Street record stores. Amongst the other tunes were Bok to Bach...Father's Angels, Cat Walk....Gerry & Paul and the Soul Emissaries, and Spreadin' Honey....Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band (get anything with "Watts" in it, he said). Still got all the vinyl I bought that day in '71. -Kev

I'm shocked to hear this very sad and unexpected news. Such a nice and popular bloke. RIP Winnie. Condolences to family and those closest to him. - Kev

8 new unreleased 60s soul tracks getting a 100 Club preview
Kevinkent replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Fantastic, and wow.. to think that these are 'also rans' in Ady's search through the Croasdell vaults for a suitable offering for the 6T's 40th Anniversary single !!! - Kev -
Mate, if you ever return to the site and this post, remember this: When you ask for suggestions and people make the effort to try and help you out, then it's to be expected that you will at least bother to check for responses. Anything else is just taking the p!ss. - Kev

Yep! Fresh meat in the block. Brings a whole new meaning to those ' little hole, big hole ' debates.

Well that is good news! Surely there's no way now that eBay can avoid being hauled over the legal coals for their participation. - Kev

Well I think Maria Willingham does a damn fine job on and off the decks. - Kev

Because, as the original newspaper article states "Judge Richard Williams said no members of the public had complained about purchasing the records" adding that they would have expected them to be unlicensed presses... So the boot playing wannabee dj's and the promoters that put them on are directly responsible for allowing this crime to perpetuate. Some would argue that eBay is similarly responsible for allowing the sale of such items despite numerous complaints which have been ignored. Maybe more arrests are to follow now that the case against the main players has been successful. Interesting to note that the case has been ongoing since at least July 2014. Hmmm, anyone bought or sold any boots since 2014 ? - Kev
