  1. Maybe the promoter/DJ/somebody should tell them . I've told 'em from the decks before, and when it didn't have the desired effect got down and moved them. I wish a few more people would do the same 'cos this can really take the edge of a night for me.
  2. I think it's great to see youngsters on the Scene. NOT the schoolkids that get dragged along to an all-dayer by their parents and amuse themselves by running and sliding across a talc'd floor - that is so fkin annoying and I say ban those kids and their parents from the venue. But any youngster, of any age, that comes of their own accord, that loves the music and wants to be part of it, is more than welcome IMO. Thing is, as they progress, what will happen? They probably can't afford to collect and therefore won't be able to DJ untill they're ancient like the rest of us, 'cos they're not allowed to play Boots or CD's of course. How many DJ's / collectors are going to pass on their treasured vinyl to the next generation without demanding a fortune for it? If I'm financially stable (when I stop buying vinyl) I just might do that. I've already been inspired recently by someone just out of their teens who dances their socks off and shows real passion for the music. When the time comes that I can no longer get out and about what better thing could I do than hand over my decks, peaveys etc and 1000+ pieces of vinyl to a worthy youngster. Keep the Faith, nurture it, pass it on. Some things are worth more than their monetary value. "STOLEN HOURS" 1st Anniversary, ***RAMSGATE*** 24th NOVEMBER. 2 Rooms + Accomodation + Free unissued Vinyl (first 100 tickets) *** Change of venue - see Events thread ***
  3. Anyway, halfway there with 1 and 2 - both ridiculous IMO, and someone tried to tell me 3 is a cover up and actually is Cher.
  4. You mean like- Soft Cell doing Gloria Jones - Tainted Love Tony Blackburn doing Doris Troy - I'll Do Anything Cher doing Alfie Davison - Love Is A Serious Business Or am I only allowed to use my imagination?
  5. Too tired really Tony, and would take far too long with my one finger tap. In a Nutshell though: Used to like Ska many years ago, but grew out of it. I'd still prefer to listen to it (if I had to) than Modern - which reminds me of YMCA disco's and the reason I'm so thankful that Northern came into my life. Oh - and anything with the word "Funk" in it I avoid at all cost. Now..."time for bed ,I'm knackered", said Zebedee
  6. Stir-it-up? of course not! I used to get pestered a lot at a certain venue with "Got any Ska?" Nearest they got from me was.... .... I'm Slowly Molding - Cody Black.
  7. I'll drink to that Paul. Every cloud has a silver lining - at least your dancing won't have looked out of place at this one!
  8. Chrissie, I for one am in total agreement with all your posts to this thread. Well said girl - and you've saved me so much typing! -Kev "STOLEN HOURS" 1st Anniversary, ***RAMSGATE*** 24th NOVEMBER 2 Rooms + Accomodation + Free unissued Vinyl (first 100 tickets) *** Change of venue - see Events thread ***
  9. Dunno about that Ash - but I am thinking of getting some patches done (if anyone else still uses them). Did anyone ever get back to you re Dave Gelling or Stevie Walsh? I'm still waiting for Kev Such to stick his head above the parapet on here - he must have another 5 or 6 names to add to the list.
  10. Hi Mate. Nice to see another recruit to the RE Soul Troop! I was at iserlohn, but with "Dirty Thirty" (30 Sqn) '75-'79. Before that I was 20 Sqn at Maidstone '71-'75. Tours in NI, NI, NI, and NI. Wasn't I the lucky one! Where are you now, and where do you go? (to lazy to look up all your posts) -Kev.
  11. No. Don't buy boots.
  12. Dancer !!! (Not a very good one though) I went to a night recently where I didn't dance once due to pain/injury. I persevered but was ready to go home before 10 'cos I wasn't enjoying it as much. . Just ain't the same without dancin' "STOLEN HOURS" 1st Anniversary, MARGATE 24th NOVEMBER. 2 Rooms + Accomodation + Free unissued Vinyl (first 100 tickets)
  13. Hi Oggie, Keep on truckin' mate.
  14. Hi John. Turned out to be a pretty quiet weekend for me. Went to Wellingboro friday, but my plans for Southampton (Saturday) and Manchester (Sunday) got the boot. Didn't realise I was 'booked' as Dad's Taxi to run family around re my daughters wedding plans. Had a guided tour of the "Ninja School" recently, and have met a few of your old mob. Seems a lot are going abroad to earn big bucks rather than be put behind a desk - don't blame 'em! I'll be up to Rugby before Prestatyn mate.
  15. Wot, not out soulin' tonight Bearsy? Was being out further north too much for you then? Hope you had a good 'un last night mate
  16. Didn't see that one snuck in at the bottom of the list. Was always East Midlands when I lived there. I know 'cos it was written on all those vans - "East Midlands Gas Board".
  17. Come on East Midlands, your almost catching up the S.E. Where are all the Northampton/Wellingboro/Kettering boys then?
  18. Sorry John but I've already made arrangements for this weekends soulin'. Will defo pay you a visit in the future though. If yourself and any of the other lads on here want to meet up with a bit more notice how about Margate on 24th November? Not that I'm trying to push it but "Stolen Hours" 1st Anniversary has 2 rooms, free vinyl for the first 100 tickets, is in a hotel with discounted rooms , and if enough rooms are booked an allnighter is on the cards. (See events for details.) Like you say, it would be nice to put faces to names. Failing that, or as well as, I intend to get around eventually to all events mentioned here. (Good job Dave Moore hasn't added to this thread 'cos I can't afford the flight!)
  19. At the double? -could be embarrasing!
  20. Be nice to see where everyone got their introduction to Soul. Then I wouldn't have to be associated with the South East - even if it is the winning team (at the moment).
  21. I used to live in and around Northampton, and at Corby for a while when I worked at the Co-op in Kettering. I don't remember seeing any live acts at the Tin Hat, but I was more an occasional visitor than a regular. Always thought the George was really friendly too - OK you could tell if trouble was expected by the things that were stuck in waistbands and belts, and at Blisworth everyone drank Newcastle Brown so they had a bottle handy - but I took that as being par for the course in those days. Incidentally, I'm going on a nostalgia trip next friday - a County Soul Clubs Reunion at Wellingborough, with DJ's from venues such as the George; Tin Hat, Freewheelers etc, etc. The scene in Kent is pretty good mate, top 2 venues IMO are "Stolen Hours" at Ramsgate/Margate, and Kent Soul Club at Rochester. Plus it's easy travelling to Bisley, Lightwater, Farnborough etc. Recently travelled to Rothwell for the "Cream Cracker", a nite run by another ex sapper - Kev Such. In fact there were 5 or 6 others there too but I'm useless at remembering names. PM me Derek, if your ever coming back down South.
  22. Far to many to choose from, these tunes are what it's all about for me. One I favour at the moment is: Dirty Hearts - Benny Curtis & The Dirty Hearts.
  23. Hi Derek and welcome to SoulSource. Small world then - before joining up I used to do the Tin Hat; the George, Wilby; Nags Head, Wollaston; Blisworth Hotel; Shades; and of course the Earls Barton allnighters. Then had to settle for the Brompton Stomp for a while - not quite the same really. Give us a shout mate if you're ever back in the vicinity of the RSME.
  24. Dean Parrish.........I'm (Not) On My Way
  25. Three from me, and unbelievably none of them mentioned yet: Chuck Jackson..............Look Over Your Shoulder Bessie Banks................Go Now .....but way above these and anything else for me comes - Tony Michaels............I Love The Life I Live
