  1. Mine looked too good to be true - and was graded as VG++ Like I say, the sound was awful towards the end. Got it of evilbay from "shermy67" of Shermy's Record Shack, San Leandro, California. - was very cheap and wouldn't have thought a seller with a large turnover would benefit from booting it for little gain. Maybe there's a pressing fault with just a few copies?
  2. Yes Barry, and I can't find my Nolan Porter!
  3. It's not just me then.
  4. I thought "playing it safe" was keeping feet on floors. There's better and more imaginative ways of keeping the floor going, but how many times have you heard a DJ revert to the same old same old, when he hasn't got a feel for the floor? Sticking Nolan Porter on halfway through an R'n'B set, in order to get some on the floor, is a distinct sign of failure IMO.
  5. I got one of these from the USA a couple of months back, but with black lettering, and I was assured it wasn't a boot. BUT....about three quarters of the way through the sound becomes very poor and sort of all merges together in an indistint sort of way. Had to find another copy to play out.
  6. Bloody hell! I thought I was the nearest thing to a Chelsea Pensioner on this thread . I think 16/5th were at Hohne in '74 when I was there, but I was also Armagh way in '72 so might be getting my wires crossed. I hope someone comes up with some info for ya on your old mate Brian. -Kev.
  7. I've witnessed some pretty nasty things, or more usually the aftermath of them, but I don't go home and beat my wife up. Please don't presume that I share the "cocooned cushy values" you speak of. I have my own set of values. Anyway, I've expressed my views and it's about that time of night when I post things I end up regretting, so I'll call it a day on this one. -Kev
  8. I don't think anyone has said that being a wife beater made the the music crap. This isn't a concert review - the guy is dead and the natural thing to do unless were going to be extremely narrow minded is to pass comment on what we know of how he lived his life. I would have been happy for his life to have been a whole lot shorter, but no one obliged.
  9. Quote from Ike in one of yesterdays free London papers- "Sure I slapped Tina, and punched her to the ground a few times too. But I never beat her," No? Oh, that's all right then. No great loss IMO.
  10. Nice to meet you at last, at the Cracker, Derek. 20 Sqn, 30 Sqn - seems you were avoiding me after you'd joined up too. - Kev.
  11. Were the 16th/5th Lancers at Hohne? If so I had a mate in 'em in '74. I didn't know there was ever anything on in Fallingbostel - but that's the price of being a pad I guess. -Kev
  12. Not sure what I've got "Sweet Thing" on 'cos I've had it for donkeys and would have to dig it out, but think the flip on my copy is "It's A Shame" - yet another nice tune. -Kev.
  13. Not a lot this month: I'll Never Fall In Love Again - Bobby Freeman - Autumn Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil - Platters - Musicor I Just Can't Stand It - Malibus - Duke In The Twilight Zone - Astors - Stax True Lovers - Four Chaps - Co and Ce -Kev
  14. Thought about lying and saying I'd found something really good. I wonder how many PM's I would have had by now?
  15. Nothing to get too excited about, but....... Don't Let It Slip Away - Ral Donner - Inferno I Got The Fever - Georgia Prophets - Eric Sensitive Mind - General Assembly - Destiny Better Use Your Head/Gonna Fix You Good - Little Anthony -UA Cowboys To Girls - Intruders - Ember The Flasher - Mistura - Route You Wont Say Nothing - Tamala Lewis - Destiny Hey Little Way Out Girl - Del Capris - Grapevine (cartoon sleeve signed by Richard Searling) .........and a couple of others in a similar vein......£3 the lot. So if anyone knows of a "T. Dewey" on the scene, who's ex-partner would have ended up selling his records off - He can have 'em back if someone PM's me with a few details. -Kev Kent SOULFUL SOUTH Opening Nite - Saturday 19th January 2008 - DJs Little Ian, Bearsy (Kent Soul Club) Nick Brown (Scenesville) Kevin Kent (Stolen Hours) - Upstairs Woolwich Catholic Club, Beresford Street, Woolwich SE18. £5.00 OTD - Free CD To 1st 50 Thru Door. 16. Truly amazing! No ones gonna top this one IMO.
  17. Spent that Christmas in South Armagh listening to Archie Bell & the Drells on the radio, but would rather have been at the Torch. Now, where did I put that album? -Kev
  18. Nor me, but my 2 copies are ZTSP106382-1B and 1C, so maybe we've got the set between us! My newer (HNO,SNO,SNO) copy has the MU-1166 number on the right of the label, and my old copy has that on the left of the label, so going by the scans put up that is another variation for both titles Can't believe I'm getting involved in this...... I started it..........I'll get my anorak -Kev
  19. Thanks Pete. What a perfect start to my day while I'm waiting for special delivery of another Astors offering . Kev.
  20. Thanks Malc, that's what I reckoned but was hoping you would post to confirm. Cheers! -Kev
  21. I know that I seem to have answered my own question here - but undoubtedly, as usual, I will be proved wrong
  22. Thanks Chris. I reckon the 2nd copy is a legit re-issue as the song is credited to 2 band members (Herb Ward, Nate Nelson) whereas my original copy is only credited to Nate Nelson. Who else would bother with altering that? I reckon the "new" title, 'cos it makes more sense and can be remembered, is what it was perhaps mean't to be in the first place. -Kev
  23. Only you, Ash, only you.
  24. OK, I'm not into the finer points of vinyl identification 'cos I still don't consider myself a collector and 'cos my eyesight ain't usually good enough to read the matrix. But it was good enough to read this: 1) DON'T HEAR, SPEAK, SEE NO EVIL 2) HEAR NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL Both by the Platters on Musicor MU-1166 with "I Love You 1000 Times" on the flip. The first copy, with a well worn label, I've had for years. The second is a recent purchase, label & vinyl about mint. If this is a re-issue/boot WHY THE TITLE CHANGE? There are other minor differences but unfortunately I am unable to put up scans. Any thoughts on this? -Kev
