  1. Nice tune! Shane Cox plays this occasionally - he might have played it at Wilton and I'm certain he played it at our last "Stolen Hours" in Ramsgate.
  2. Pete, I was referring to other posts not yours. In trying to make sense of all this I wasn't aware that they were on here most days. I would still like to think that they were unaware of a done deal though. You mentioned a phone number re their sales - why not ring it and find out? Still think the seller is the one to be castigated here.
  3. OH, I thought that was a mate who posted up on the events thread for them. Either way doesn't mean to say they're aware of either the thread or Pete's deal. -Kev, the eternal optimist.
  4. And it looks like their one and only post so surely it's reasonable to assume that they don't visit the site too often? I believe they don't even come on the site to promote their own events. After all, there is life beyond Soul Source and it seems likely to me that they could be entirely unaware of this thread (as you stated earlier Pete) Seems to me that there is a lot of presumption on here regarding Soulmine. All this talk of boycotting and ultimatums to respond is a bit OTT, and particularly without knowing the facts. As someone has already said - the fault lies with the seller. And if you're certain that your name would have been mentioned to Soulmine in which context do you really think it would have been: "Oh, I've already sold these to Pete but...." or "Pete has shown interest in these" (not a bad sales ploy really) I may be wrong but I'm just trying to apply a bit of logic to all this. Hope it all gets sorted amicably.
  5. Hank - any excuse to buy more vinyl is OK by me
  6. PM'd you.
  7. That'll be me then. Did I detect Rolf Harris's wobble-board there?
  8. But did you blow your own trumpet?
  9. Hi John. You shouldn't have much trouble getting back into the scene in Northants and the surrounding area mate. One I've yet to check out is "Creative Soul" in Wellingboro, which I reckon caters for the more underplayed and Modern side of things and is on the 26th of this month. Or maybe see you at the "Cream Cracker" Rothwell which is a popular (with some) oldies night that attracts a good few travelling soulies. There's plenty more of course, something for every taste and you're a bit spoilt for choice compared to me down in Kent. -Kev.
  10. As someone has already stated this is the version available on Jay Boy. It's credited on the label to "Bob & Earl" (as is the original version), but I always refer to it as the Jackie Lee version. The late, great Jackie Lee who sadly departed the scene last Saturday, was a one time member of the "Bob & Earl" duo.
  11. Cheers Dan, this should bring back a few memories! I never did thank you publicly for those copies of "In Foreign Fields". For those that haven't read IFF,each chapter relates the story surrounding an act of heroism in Iraq or Afghanistan - in the words of those who were awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross, Millitary Cross, and other "gongs" - and all put together by Dan. I don't know whether it was a feeling of pride, a sense of affinity, or what but it certainly got me choked a few times. Very easy to read too. I just read each individual chapter when I had the time, with no need to remember what had gone before. Perfect. Dan, I'm avoiding reading further snippets of this latest offering 'cos I'm definately going to read the book. Thanks again -Kev
  12. I think I have this on black vinyl. Got it as a Christmas gift from a guy who had a record shop and he told me it was a promotional thing that he received. I'd have to dig it out and check the track listing but it sounds like the same vinyl. ...... And one side is 33rpm, 'tother 45rpm - very confusing after a few bevvies!
  13. Totally agree! Though I only listened to the first 50 seconds before switching it off.
  14. My daughter insists that I impart a few words of (her) wisdom here: "Tell them that if everyone goes to this they'll all have heart attacks, 'cos they're too old to be mucking about!"
  15. I admire your courage if you go ahead with this. And I'll deffo be at the launch.....but only if it doesn't clash with BoogalooSoul in Greenwich. I wonder how many "practising" soulies there are throughout the UK? I seem to see the same faces wherever I go, and have recently jokingly expressed the view that we should have one purpose built, centrally located, multi-room venue. Is this the one?
  16. This has been posted recently as being out now as a Pilooski re-edit. Not my cup of tea though.
  17. Ian, I hope you're dates are not going to clash with any other events. lol.
  18. Well that could be the biggest hole...........a promoter who is always right, no matter what! Best of luck though, I'll watch the developments with interest. Quick edit.....EVERY WEEK? Nah, I prefer to get around a bit for a bit of variation. Every month would be pushing it IMO.
  19. And I sold you one for £30 Dave. .....So if you've got 2 copies that could be Lesha's problem solved -Kev.
  20. Well I obviously don't 'cos I've spent god knows how many years singing "Get up in the morning, baked beans for breakfast".
  21. I only put in an early bid if I know I'll be away and need to bid in the final stages on my mobile. If I'm watching a few items but only one or two are due to end this just makes them quicker and easier to get to using my phone. I'd rather not snipe 'cos it takes the fun out of it, plus I'd end up being skint all of the time instead of just some of the time.
  22. It's just a pity then that some venues play vinyl on shite sound systems. Sort of defeats the object really.
  23. Apologies for nicking this article from another part of the site, but it seems to fit in well on this thread:- "Many audio purists, musicians and engineers - among them Sir George Martin - argue that the traditional vinyl disc offers better sound as it carries frequencies which, although above the range of our hearing are nevertheless perceived by the brain and therefore add to the realism and thus to our enjoyment of recorded music."
  24. Put me at the bottom of the list with a £20 cheapie that no has played for a while (and certainly not that night) and I'll be happy .
  25. Yes that is impressive Rob. Be even more impressive if he was doing it as a punter. Thats the point HE WAS doing it as a punter along with 3 others from KENT !! Unfortunately we won't be doing the 300 mile round trip - we are church mice at the moment. we'll see you at Pete's do x x Karen & Rob Have big fun guys! Travelling is a bit of a must if you're a Kent soulie. Top marks Rob for giving John Alden a well deserved break. -Kev
