  1. Chain Gang.........Sam Cooke
  2. It looks like the script at the top of the label is misaligned with that at the bottom too, but I think it's just down to camera angle. Would have liked to see a straight on shot. Maybe I'm just gullible!
  3. Be a bit of a silly thing to do, and pointless as it clearly states "demonstration sample not for sale" on the label. Genuine I reckon. -Kev.
  4. Thanks Mark - hadn't got my specs on! I didn't realise that the £ was doing so badly against the Euro! (or the $). Wouldn't pay 25p at a car boot for that shite.
  5. Am I missing something here?
  6. If you've had no joy, try contacting Kev Bourne (northandsouth on here).
  7. I'd like to have a listen of that too. Anything recorded as The UP-SET Larry?
  8. Hi Larry, enjoyed your thread on the PRESENTATIONS - CALL ON ME. I've had a cursory look at these other sites and I've got to say I don't hear much that will be of interest to the average visitor to this site. Didn't anyone tell you we're stuck in a timewarp Nice to know that after all these years you are still involved in the music business though, and I wish you every success with your current ventures. - Kevin.
  9. Here's a bit of info on "Call On Me" from Larry. which I'm sure he won't mind me sharing on here: "a little tib bit about Call On Me! The singers could not really hit the HIGHS, so my lead singer Joey Guarino dubbed them in,.....ha ha" and, "Also our voices were dubbed in. here is the breakdown. of the UP=SET (Music Combination) my band: Joey Guarino~Lead vocals Larry Patterson~Sax~vocals Denny Gill~Trumpet~vocals Billy Sparks~Bass~vocals Tom Somich~Drums~vocals Frank Donahue~Guitar~vocals Then there were the Presentations 4 black guys If I remember and a few strings were added."
  10. Be really nice if this was moved. Larry has PM'd me some anecdotes which I've asked him to add to the thread for the benefit of all. - Kev.
  11. Maybe the Mods could move this thread to "All about the soul"? - or somewhere that might not be missed by others. - Kev.
  12. Dave you're such a Boer, you know the R.E's were there mate! I'm doin' fine thanks, but not as tanned and relaxed as yerself. That Skyliners is a nice tune - not long picked up a copy myself! Sorry for hijacking your thread Emel, but I'm sure you'll forgive me as your vinyl will be on it's way soon.
  13. I had a mate who was working on sign fixing, next door to a record shop in Windsor a couple of years ago. He walks in with "Got any Northern Soul mate?" and is directed out back. Ends up walking out with the whole Grapevine collection, minus 2 I think, for a total of £7 . I drive there a couple of weeks later and it's closed down.
  14. With age, comes experience. Warren, wait 'till you see the one of Pam! Good to see young Emel getting the vinyl bug eh?
  15. PM'd ya.
  16. Following a previous thread on here I've been playing my SoulSeries copy out. Don't recall what the previous thread said exactly, though I know the concensus of opinion was that it was OK to play. - Kev.
  17. That's great Harry, and I'm gonna try and get up to support it and I hope a few from this site, and certainly this thread, support it too. It's maybe unfortunate that the Soul For Heroes (South) event is running so close to this one. With a venue in Chatham so near to the 80 acre Chatham Historic Dockyard, which is hosting events for Armed Forces Day, I saw it as too good an opportunity to miss. Gonna get down there and rattle a few charity buckets............or maybe more - watch this space . - Kev
  18. On behalf of SOUL FOR HEROES (SOUTH) I am in the early stages of organising an event, in Chatham, on 27th June 2009. This will coincide with the ARMED FORCES DAY events which are being centred nationally at Chatham Historic Dockyard. It'd be great to see some of you guys there!
  19. C'mon guys - have you all seen the "Dj's Stand Up" thread in the Events forum? For more information on "Soul for Heroes" try this link www.soulforheroes.webs.com . I will certainly be at the Sutton in Ashfield dayer, and am looking for a venue in the south too. By the way, announced today- 27th June 2009 is the first official NATIONAL ARMED FORCES DAY.
  20. Hasn't it been booted on a floppy disc?
  21. No not just you Ken, me too! I just don't like people trying to foist things on us. I generally don't go out to listen to all this Funk stuff. If I did want to hear it I'd go to a Funk nite or somewhere that had Funk on their flyers at least. Hearing it at a Northern/R'n'B venue would be a big disappointment for me (I said for ME - all you people who are gonna tell me to broaden my outlook). Still I haven't stopped smoking, so at least there's still the smokers social to run off to. -Kev.
  22. Don't you mean BIGGER than we would like it to be but probably NOT as big as we think?
  23. Tommy, there's at least 4 Soul weekenders each year in Spain, probably more in Germany, some in Italy too, and one underway as we speak in Switzerland. I don't have details of all the individual clubs behind them on but can look them up when I get the time - unless someone beats me to it (please!).
  24. Don't get me wrong mate, I think this is interesting. An excellent idea and could be a good thread. I was, perhaps wrongly, trying to make it an easier thread to follow once it gets to a few pages. And, who knows about Afghanistan? Not too long ago I was up for a contract there or Iraq and I had definate thoughts of getting something on if I'd ended up on one of the larger bases. And don't forget that someone on here found a Northern collection tucked away in Basra Palace! Good luck with this - I'll pop back later and see how it's going. - Kev.
