Mistaken Identity At Soul Events
My brother was mistaken for me by an old school friend who ended up sh@gging him senseless. He never even had the decency to let on he wasn't me - or more importantly to find out who she was and let me know. So, whoever you are that frequents Motown do's around Northampton and used to go to Roade Secondary School - it wasn't me, OK !!!

Spellbound And Spaceland
It's rumoured that "Spaceland" - Tony Hestor, was about to be released as a single. At the last minute the "Going To A Happening" vocals were put to the backing track in an attempt to cash in on the success of the likes of "Going To A GoGo" and "Everybody's Going To A Love-In". I haven't checked out the plausability of this theory......release dates etc, but I'm sure someone on here posted this up before. Can anyone enlighten us? - Kev.

Refosoul Direct Search ?
Ah....at last I've found out how to use it! It works fine Mike, though I don't know if it's just me not liking change but I sort of prefered it as it was. In the meantime, and during my confused period, I've been searching for tracks on youtube and to be honest find that easier, quicker, and preferable. Like I say - maybe it's just me. - Kev

Rare Unknown Test Pressing Uptempo Soul 45 Listed
Quite nice, but I fail to see why you list it on Ebay as Uptempo. Which side were you refering to?

Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys
Nah, actually NOT fair play at all. To post such a strongly worded initial post and then in reply to me state "I may be mistaken..." and "I'm not trying to fuel speculation..." is a bit out of order IMO without something more concrete to go on. Her's what you said, remember.... "Apparently a French time-waster is trying to rip people off as he's just put up for a sale an amazing batch of rare records only. The set sale goes from Pike 12" to Solid Gold revue LP ! That guy is jocking, isn't he ???? He's put more than $30000 records worth in the same batch using soul and funk musicc related label scans ! You can easily recognize him as he's the one with solid stuff only ! He doesn't even have one of those records for sale, so be carefull about that and try to spread this message around you so that nobody would loose his money in this fake market ! Make sure you don't take part to his fake auctions otherwise you will be loosing what you've worked for and you won't receive any of those great records !" Anyway, I'm getting involved in just the sort of thing that I try to refrain from on this site, so no more from me. Kev.

Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys
Well, if you had only an honest intent to warn us, fair play to you because you've certainly bought it to our attention. For the sake of those bidding I hope you are wrong Like Arkwright says...."We'll j j j just have to wait and s see". -Kev.

Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys
Maybe, but the responses seem similar to those on here in that all but the original poster seems slightly confused. I 'm probably barking up the wrong tree but maybe "freestylemaniac" on that site, and "funk-addict" on here, are one and the same Only one person can answer the question I guess.

Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys
'Allo 'allo Funk Addict. I can't be ar$ed to look at this guys listings, but....without something more to go on I'm afraid your rant over this French seller won't be taken seriously. In fact, although your written English is pretty good (better than many on here, lol) you do come across as, well.....perhaps French? Do you see this guy as local competition or do you know him personally? Myself, were I interested, I'd sooner go by those on here who have bought from him previously. Same thing goes for those I'd reserve records for.

Charity Event Or For Profits
No probs Jayne. I was only given the go ahead to put on this bash if it was on a larger scale, though I still got the venue for free. I would just be surprised if many charity do's, other than those put on at an established venue perhaps, didn't have the same unavoidable expenditure. For those that find a way to overcome this problem - WELL DONE, I applaud you. -Kev.

Charity Event Or For Profits
Hi Jayne, This is precisely why the event was advertised as "All profits to charity" - to hopefully avoid any confusion. I was given the go ahead to run this event and was informed that the intention was that it should be self funding. As a first time promoter some of the initial outlay requirements came as a bit of a surprise to me, especially as I was going solo on this, but I was able to continue. Without taking out the cost of the initial batch of flyers and the compulsory charge for the door staff I would have been forced to abandon the idea. I did end up part funding it myself, to the tune of £2-300 but that was because I wanted to. I wish I could have done more, but unlike yourself I didn't have the finances available. Still made £1800 from door takings/donations/raffle though, and that's after said deductions. I'm not ashamed of that or the way I went about it. -Kev.

Charity Event Or For Profits
Well I did. But can I add that at my event no dj's took anything, expenses or otherwise. I managed to blag the £500+ hire of the venue for nothing. The venue insisted on a (reduced) charge of £200 for the doormen - which did come out of the takings eventually, though it was a bit of a shock to find that I had to stump up this and another couple of hundred in returnable deposits in advance out of my own pocket. £100 was taken out as reimbursement for flyers, though to avoid further cost I did the majority myself for free. The equipment used was mine - at no cost. The raffle prizes were either donated by dj's and friends, or bought and donated by myself and Pam (we couldn't resist it). And no, I didn't do it to "further myself as a dj". Out of 12 hours I took 20 minutes on the decks to play a few tunes and to enable me to thank people for coming. It never occured to me that "all profits" could be deemed anything other than the takings minus minimum and unavoidable costs. I still think it would have been easier if all those who attended had got themselves sponsored to run 5 miles or do some push-ups! Then we could have all met up after and gone to someone else's do.

Charity Event Or For Profits
I agree, there should be more transparency. It doesn't have to be on this site but there should be some breakdown of expenditure/profits. I ran a charity event earlier in the year which I announced as "all profits to charity". Having run this regionally for a newly formed organisation I handed over just short of £1800 on the day to the organisation. I sincerely hope that it's all gone direct to charity and not, as rumoured, partly to fund further such events. My event was made possible by good fortune, a sympathetic venue, unpaid dj's, and due to a loss by myself which I was happy to concede. I just wish that some recognition from our nominated charity had been published on the organisations website in order to allay the rumours. Would I run another charity bash? Yes, but I think there are easier and more effective ways of raising money for charity. Would I attend an event just because it was a charity fund-raiser? No (for the same reason as above), but I'd certainly go out of my way if the charity was close to my heart, and if the event was "right up my street" that would be an added bonus. Fair play to all those honest guys who are organising charity events - I know it's not easy, and your efforts a commendable. - Kev

Ebay Bootleggers 84 Items Now
Back in June I started a thread regarding an Ebay seller "vinylrecordcutting" who had a couple of hundred white label boots for sale. Loads on here followed me in reporting said items to Ebay and (very) slowly their sales wore down. SO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS SELLER..........northernsoulsister55 84 items currently for sale !!!!!!!! Strange that they only started selling 3 months ago, and our friend vinylrecordcutting had his last sale about the same time Both northernsoulsister55 and vinylrecordcutting are from Down, UK. No white labels this time.............they're all booted on 2 labels......."Princetown Records" or "NorthernSoulSource" (piss-take or what!) And they are all Buy it Now items, so the exorbitant bids followed by failure to pay measures taken by a few good guys on here can't happen again. Anyone on here have the time, clout, contacts and know-how to follow this up? It seemed to take me forever back in June, and nothing seemed to happen for ages. - Kev.

Feeling Ripped Off By A Promoter
I couldn't agee more Joan, and no promoter should feel they can act in this manner. But, as respect and common decency are so obviously not on this promoters agenda, and as the question raised was "what are my consumer rights?", I let that form the basis of my reply. Hope it all gets sorted amicably though. - Kev

Feeling Ripped Off By A Promoter
Going back to your original post, surely you have some legal redress re the non-refund for the cancelled event? That's where I'd concentrate my efforts - especially as being a nice guy hasn't worked. Sod 'em and go for it! -Kev

Why Do Djs Tell Pork Pies
If I don't own a requested tune I'll say so. If I don't have a requested tune with me, I'll say so. If I do have the request but don't manage to fit it into my set due to time left or due to totally altering the flow of the set, then I'll apologise afterwards. If I know that one of the dj's following me is likely to have it and might be able to play it, I'll mention it to them. If I know the person requesting is a regular at the venue I'll bear the tune in mind if I play there again. But I won't lie. Nor will I play a right mish-mash of tunes that are last minute requests. - Kev.

Eskee 10002 6618
Hi Steve, big production, atmospheric, and I think you've described this perfectly mate. I spotted this with a soundclip on Ebay a couple of years back, missed it and forgot who/what it was. Found it again a year ago and have played it a couple of times at a lazy Sunday afternoon thing I was doing. No real crowd in to guage any reaction, but I like it! Apart from yourself I've not heard anyone else mention it, let alone play it. (famous last words?) I've got it on the Eskee promo, but the same 2 tracks are on a German Columbia Picture Sleeve. - Kev.

This Will Come As A Big Shock For Some Of You
£35......That 's wrong - I'll show the missus then, thought I. Didn't realise it had only just started. A paltry £650 total for me - all on vinyl and all on bargains! Far too much though considering I've suspended buying due to my daughters forthcoming wedding. - Kev £3.20 a day........Just realised that if I stop smoking I can buy 3 times the vinyl and be no worse off!!!!!!!!
