  1. That's made my Christmas!
  2. I agree with you Ian, it is fantastic. I missed your earlier thread on this but well done for planting the seed. Merry Christmas mate! - Kev
  3. 15 years old? She could be nominated for this for the next 25 years then! Best of luck to Rosie, Azza, and all the youngsters who have discovered this scene and all that is special about it. - Kev.
  4. That's a fantastic response Pete! But if you're reading this for the first time, don't think that all is OK now - I don't know the guy but by all accounts Fingers has had the bailiffs around and loses his house on 4th Jan. Keep it coming.
  5. And having just re-read Fingers post on Simon's "Soulies needing a hand"" thread, I've also sent a PM to (hopefully) keep his spirits up. It's so heart warming to be reminded that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Soul-land.
  6. Simon, not only have you selflessly offered yourself up here, but you have reminded us all of the impotance of Faith, Hope, and Charity at this time of year especially. Well done Bro. - Kev.
  7. Drew, if you click on someones name above their avatar, you will go to their profile. On the left is a list which includes "send me a message", just click on it. -Kev
  8. Well done Pete! I was going to get a bollocking anyway for overspending on vinyl. I can do without the latest intended buy. - Kev
  9. I left Northampton in 1971 and don't get up there too often - which is why he got away with it for the whole 2 weeks that he lasted (no stamina). Come to think of it, if she was an old school friend of mine she must have been well past her best-before date.
  10. No, don't get your coat Dave. You've answered exactly what I was wondering about but couldn't be @rsed to look up for myself. Thanks !!!!
  11. My brother was mistaken for me by an old school friend who ended up sh@gging him senseless. He never even had the decency to let on he wasn't me - or more importantly to find out who she was and let me know. So, whoever you are that frequents Motown do's around Northampton and used to go to Roade Secondary School - it wasn't me, OK !!!
  12. It's rumoured that "Spaceland" - Tony Hestor, was about to be released as a single. At the last minute the "Going To A Happening" vocals were put to the backing track in an attempt to cash in on the success of the likes of "Going To A GoGo" and "Everybody's Going To A Love-In". I haven't checked out the plausability of this theory......release dates etc, but I'm sure someone on here posted this up before. Can anyone enlighten us? - Kev.
  13. Merry Christmas everyone!
  14. Ah....at last I've found out how to use it! It works fine Mike, though I don't know if it's just me not liking change but I sort of prefered it as it was. In the meantime, and during my confused period, I've been searching for tracks on youtube and to be honest find that easier, quicker, and preferable. Like I say - maybe it's just me. - Kev
  15. Quite nice, but I fail to see why you list it on Ebay as Uptempo. Which side were you refering to?
  16. Nah, actually NOT fair play at all. To post such a strongly worded initial post and then in reply to me state "I may be mistaken..." and "I'm not trying to fuel speculation..." is a bit out of order IMO without something more concrete to go on. Her's what you said, remember.... "Apparently a French time-waster is trying to rip people off as he's just put up for a sale an amazing batch of rare records only. The set sale goes from Pike 12" to Solid Gold revue LP ! That guy is jocking, isn't he ???? He's put more than $30000 records worth in the same batch using soul and funk musicc related label scans ! You can easily recognize him as he's the one with solid stuff only ! He doesn't even have one of those records for sale, so be carefull about that and try to spread this message around you so that nobody would loose his money in this fake market ! Make sure you don't take part to his fake auctions otherwise you will be loosing what you've worked for and you won't receive any of those great records !" Anyway, I'm getting involved in just the sort of thing that I try to refrain from on this site, so no more from me. Kev.
  17. Well, if you had only an honest intent to warn us, fair play to you because you've certainly bought it to our attention. For the sake of those bidding I hope you are wrong Like Arkwright says...."We'll j j j just have to wait and s see". -Kev.
  18. Maybe, but the responses seem similar to those on here in that all but the original poster seems slightly confused. I 'm probably barking up the wrong tree but maybe "freestylemaniac" on that site, and "funk-addict" on here, are one and the same Only one person can answer the question I guess.
  19. 'Allo 'allo Funk Addict. I can't be ar$ed to look at this guys listings, but....without something more to go on I'm afraid your rant over this French seller won't be taken seriously. In fact, although your written English is pretty good (better than many on here, lol) you do come across as, well.....perhaps French? Do you see this guy as local competition or do you know him personally? Myself, were I interested, I'd sooner go by those on here who have bought from him previously. Same thing goes for those I'd reserve records for.
  20. Dancefloor is a bit narrow.
  21. 100 club before last, there were 2 guys doing flyers outside. They didn't even come in to the club !!!!!!!!! What's that all about? If you don't appreciate the music and respect the scene, take your flyers and F@@k off!
  22. No probs Jayne. I was only given the go ahead to put on this bash if it was on a larger scale, though I still got the venue for free. I would just be surprised if many charity do's, other than those put on at an established venue perhaps, didn't have the same unavoidable expenditure. For those that find a way to overcome this problem - WELL DONE, I applaud you. -Kev.
  23. Hi Jayne, This is precisely why the event was advertised as "All profits to charity" - to hopefully avoid any confusion. I was given the go ahead to run this event and was informed that the intention was that it should be self funding. As a first time promoter some of the initial outlay requirements came as a bit of a surprise to me, especially as I was going solo on this, but I was able to continue. Without taking out the cost of the initial batch of flyers and the compulsory charge for the door staff I would have been forced to abandon the idea. I did end up part funding it myself, to the tune of £2-300 but that was because I wanted to. I wish I could have done more, but unlike yourself I didn't have the finances available. Still made £1800 from door takings/donations/raffle though, and that's after said deductions. I'm not ashamed of that or the way I went about it. -Kev.
  24. Make your mind up - do you want a soul nite or not?! - Kev
  25. Well I did. But can I add that at my event no dj's took anything, expenses or otherwise. I managed to blag the £500+ hire of the venue for nothing. The venue insisted on a (reduced) charge of £200 for the doormen - which did come out of the takings eventually, though it was a bit of a shock to find that I had to stump up this and another couple of hundred in returnable deposits in advance out of my own pocket. £100 was taken out as reimbursement for flyers, though to avoid further cost I did the majority myself for free. The equipment used was mine - at no cost. The raffle prizes were either donated by dj's and friends, or bought and donated by myself and Pam (we couldn't resist it). And no, I didn't do it to "further myself as a dj". Out of 12 hours I took 20 minutes on the decks to play a few tunes and to enable me to thank people for coming. It never occured to me that "all profits" could be deemed anything other than the takings minus minimum and unavoidable costs. I still think it would have been easier if all those who attended had got themselves sponsored to run 5 miles or do some push-ups! Then we could have all met up after and gone to someone else's do.
