  1. But who'd admit to wearing a baggy one.
  2. Definately sung differently, and does the Spanish one sound a tad speeded up - or is that my imagination? - Kev.
  3. Seen it on the red Soul Town label - is it also about on the yellow?
  4. Got to agree! I love reading stuff like this. - Kev
  5. Question Mark & the Mysterians ????????
  6. It might look cheesy to us but come down south and find out how many people think they are into Northern Soul but haven't got a clue how to dance. And there's even more that turn up at do's but feel too intimidated to hit the floor. She should set up down here 'cos anything that would stop people dancing as though they've still got a Lambretta stuck between their legs would be a good thing IMO. I doubt the uninitiated would be interested in her tuition, rather those that feel they just can't get it right on a night out. Look at the youtube vids of the youngsters in Japan coaching others at their open air sessions in the park - fantastic enthusiasm and a willingness to learn/teach. You never been to a do and found a side room where some bloody good dancers are showing one another how to hit certain moves? Private tuition in my book. All this "you have to feel the music and just do your own thing" is obviously bollox otherwise there wouldn't be so many dancing very similarly to one another. It's just that most have had balls to imitate and practice on a proper "live" dancefloor at some stage in their lives. She's making a living out of combining two of her interests. Unfortunately with one of them being the great underground music scene, Northern Soul, she's gonna get a right slating. How dare she! Fair play to her is what I say. .............I'll get my coat (goin line dancing).
  7. Interesting. He's not a million miles away from Northampton/Kettering/Wellingboro - there was quite a healthy scene as far south as Bedfordshire and Northants well before '70, and some very knowledgeable people about in those parts. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Glen Bellamy could provide some answers but I don't know if he's on here. .........How much does the Chicory Tip go for now? - Kev.
  8. Got to be the Winstons for me and it's probably the only version I'd listen to start to finish. O.C. Smith's had something about it but seemed to lose the sentiment in the process. and yes I agree, the Bobby Womack version is pretty horrendous. Can't remember what the others are like - and I've only just played them. Mike - thanks for not putting a Reggae version up.
  9. Hi mate, The Chico Lamarr and the Tripps are two different songs, which may not be obvious if English isn't your first language. Only the backing is the same. Why not contact the guy who is selling the jukebox on Ebay? He might agree to sell the Chico Lamarr record. - Kev
  10. I thought it sounded familiar, now I know why.
  11. Have to try later if no one else has named it for you. - Kev
  12. Hi Salvosoul. I've replied to your post in "Look at your box" It's the Penetrations - Sweet Sweet Baby - Highland Records. PENETRATIONS - SWEET SWEET BABY -
  13. Penetrations - Sweet Sweet Baby - Highland Records PENETRATIONS - SWEET SWEET BABY - - Kev
  14. Love the Guitar Ray! Only one that springs straight to mind is Pam's least favourite tune.......... MIKE & THE CENSATIONS - DON'T MESS WITH ME - HIGHLAND -
  15. Of course! Doesn't everybody? Anyway, if I didn't - I'd only be going out a couple of times a year - Kev
  16. I'm really glad you mentioned the Soprano's - 'cos I was wondering where the hell I'd heard it before!
  17. Depends how you value it Pete. I was happy to pay £20 for it and would have probably gone to 3x that depending on availability. I hardly ever go by price guides, and never by whoever else is playing it, but just decide how much I rate a tune personally and then try and find it. Sometimes you've just GOT to have it I guess. - Kev
  18. Thanks guys, about time I had a bargain and I paid £20 for mine just a couple of years ago. I've been playing it out at every opportunity, otherwise haven't heard it much. I guess like everything it's supply and demand. Nice to know I got in early for once! THE DEALERS, YOU GOT IT, BIG BUNNY -
  19. The Dealers - You Got It - Big Bunny Now I love this tune but find it hard to believe there's 6 bids putting it at $300 / £200 , and it's only VG+ Can't get the hang of doing the link , but it's ebay item 360232597786 - Kev
  20. err.....it could be a mistake, and more than likely is. I had something from the States (not this seller) where the postage was $97. A simple question proved it to be an error and it was mailed at $5 which is probably the cheapest I've had from there. Don't know what would have happened if I'd bid and won without noticing it though.
  21. Just a little aside on this: Larry Patterson (Rockorocket on this site) joined and pm'd me after seeing Call On Me on my playlist. Larry had a band called the Up-Set who did a bit of studio work, including backing on this tune. He was reminiscing that the four black guys who made up the Presentations couldn't hit the high notes and that they were done by the Up-Set lead vocalist Joey Guarino. Nice tune - I'm hanging on to mine. -Kev
  22. Same here. Earls Barton Dog Track (Northants) after a night at the George, in '68 or '69. Help Me - Spellbinders, and I've Been Hurt - Bill Deal & The Rhondels come to mind but I might be making it up. Do recall the Old Bill bursting into the place in the early hours and shining torches in everyone's eyes though. Don't think they knew what they were doing really Anyone else remember Smallwood and his little grey mini-van? - Kev
  23. That's pretty plausible IMO. In '95 I knew an Arms dealer who'd been out there and purchased a whole load of ex American military firearms. He was selling Colt 45's for about £40, he had that many of them. He also said that he'd found an aircraft hanger sized building full of abandoned military Harley Davidsons, but due to import/export licence problems, was unable to get them back. Sods law that if I went, all I'd find was a few Gary Glitter records
  24. I agree with that Mark. Don't forget too, that these comments kept the thread in a prominent position and probably ensured that many were aware enough to contribute if they wished.
