  1. Yep, I think we're getting a bit off topic so i'll leave it at this - if the music in the main room wasn't very good I probably wouldn't be there unless it was a (very) local event. If the main room throws in stuff like Parisiennes/Little Tommy/William Powell, like Kings Hall, that's fine by me.
  2. Yes mate, tongue in cheek hence the emoticon, and sorry if you saw it otherwise - apart from the atmosphere/dance orientated bit of course. And I'll dance to stuff I haven't heard before - don't see why everyone doesn't.
  3. Where's your vote then? I'm the only vote for rare so far. In that case I'd like tried and tested in the second room. (I think).
  4. Rare, but by that I don't mean rarely available. I mean rarely played.
  5. Now stop picking on my post in an effort to make yourself sound superior, and start saving for all those birthday rounds you're gonna be buying in the Blue Posts!
  6. Paul, that doesn't make sense to me. You can't understand why a busy room, full of dancers, can have a better atmosphere than an emptyish one? Well if you're out for a sociable night out it does matter, otherwise you might as well stay at home and just have a couple of mates round. Me.....I'll wander from one to the other, unaffected by the bias of others as I like it all. I do pick my venues according to what I'm after though. Unfortunately some aren't prepared to leave their comfort zone and hear what else is on offer. I've noticed this particularly when there isn't immediate access between rooms and this does sound like Gloucester if the rooms were on different floors. Swap the rooms around for an hour or so - and see if everyone gets up and moves Other than that - I'll go with Dave Abbots Factor number 3
  7. Had me worried there and I was gonna stop replying to PM's I can see where Dave's coming from and it must be frustrating to not see a few expected faces that you know are just a few steps away. Like yourself I reckon it's probably down to atmosphere - I like the new rare or underplayed room at Kings Hall, Stoke, but it certainly doesn't have the atmosphere of the main room so inevitably that's where I'll spend most of the night with mates who probably aren't as appreciative of the other room. - Kev
  8. Are you really sugesting that the contents of a Personal Message be made public?......Surely not! Ask them in lookbacks Dave and if they've blustered on about in the pre-event thread - well it's the same thread now so it makes it easy.
  9. My thought is.....Should you have been driving? You weren't speeding were you!?
  10. You're right Adam. I thought the thread was regarding your business until I opened it.
  11. Loads of anthems already on this scene and everyone has favourites - but could/should they be THE National NS Anthem? One where the words really relate to how I feel about the scene, and therefore a contender IMO is this: TONY MICHAELS - I LOVE THE LIFE I LIVE (AND LIVE THE LIFE I LOVE) - Kev.
  12. The death throes of SHS ? Martin, you're a bit out of touch mate SHS has probably the best attended friday night in London
  13. Sounds good to me
  14. Don't pay any regard to when I can attend mate. Hardly been at work since January, but when I am it's just not wednesdays. Hopefully they'll stump up with a retirement package soon and I can sod off to Spain - so definately don't rely on me! But in the meantime, I'll support you when I can. So give us a clue - don't need the exact venue (I have one in mind myself) as you obviously have something sorted , but an approximate area might generate more of a response - be it positive or otherwise.
  15. I do like the idea of it Paul. Trouble is for me that I'd be leaving about 1030 to ensure I get home. Would love to play some mid-tempo/beat ballads - but I'm buggered if I'm selling any . I'm not in town on Wednesdays either, but that's just me being selfish! Good luck with it mate.
  16. Not a bad idea, but you may find that you're gonna get the same few appearing after work and after a while it might wear a bit thin. A Sunday morning would be good. Catch the out of towners before they head back from a weekend in the smoke. - Kev.
  17. Well, if you are meaning the Bank Holiday weekend, there's loads on including a Jazz Funk special at Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium on Saturday. info here: https://www.soul-survivors.co.uk/
  18. I can confirm - yes, it's either Genuine or bootleg err.....what label?
  19. 'Kinell, Kent Soul Club is my local nite! Fantastic venue and I'm always saying I wish I'd found it first. So - can I categorically state that IT WASN'T ME. Trevski, stop any rumours now. Name and shame.
  20. Nothing so refreshing for me as seeing someone new discovering the scene. Members should need to sign in any extra punters as guests. There's always enough people outside smoking to make this viable and it shouldn't be left to the door staff to decide. A few quick words could explain the rules and would go a long way to sorting out the stray piss-heads from genuine soulies and those who don't know the scene but have actually planned to go out of their way and give it a try.
  21. Nice Tune Albert. No sound on your clip after first 9 seconds though! Try this: CARL HENDERSON - IM SCHEMING -
  22. I think you've answered your own question - and very well too. Usually put up by lack-lustre promoters who are just trying to attract anyone through the doors in order to boost the coffers. Lack of vinyl and unwillingness to put on decent dj's just adds to the monotony. Personally I like the expression as it tells me where to avoid.
  23. Hey Matthew, have you given up on trying to convert your fellow bus passengers? For the uninitiated, Matthew is WPaulVanDyke and this is one of his youtube blogs:
