  1. Well I'm impressed! To be honest I wasn't expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised! A lousy recording though and I,d like to hear/see a more proffesional one. This reminds me of when I saw Al Supersonic & The Teenagers in Valencia - I felt obliged to go and see them and had low expectations but was completely blown away. Is that the lovely Emel fronting you - two sourcers in one band? It seems the scene is flourishing in Lucern. I thought the drummer looked a bit scruffy though - Kev.
  2. Hi Gibby, how's it going mate? I think some who advised him have just got a few minor details confused - unintentional errors that probably wouldn't be picked up by anyone that wasn't involved in any particular incident, and which certainly doesn't detract from a good read. Whatever happened to Mick Rooney? Did he get into the scene other than localy? Only seen him once since this photo as we moved abroad shortly after......
  3. Dave, I had a copy of That Beating Rhythm until it got nicked. I had filled the margins with scribblings to correct Paddy Grady's inaccuracies with a few names and dates. A fascinating trip down memory lane despite that, and I must get another copy. - Kev.
  4. Hey Henning, the Youtube clip shows "not available". Searched Youtube for "The Choons" and a couple of clips came up - but that's not you on drums, so a different band I guess. - Kev.
  5. Is the guy, centre of three in the top right photo, Chiefy from Luton? My memory is crap now so I could be wrong, plus he had shorter hair when I knew him from his visits to Northampton. Also, I thought Smelly George was a bit of a regular at Wilby for a while. I still remember the time he was outside collecting for the "Save The George" fund (i.e. he had no dosh but wanted to get to The Wheel). - Kev.
  6. Hi Kev, Sure I'd heard that some U.S. releases were subsequently pitched up before being released to a UK market - so not as originally intended? Anyway, you're right I am really talking about pitching up on the decks. Could really do with some examples of tunes that are/could be pitched. Anybody?
  7. But how were they intended Kev? Weren't some of the early TMG hits pitched up for the UK releases during the production stage? If so, we never heard them as they were intended, it's just that someone other than a dj made the decision that faster was better for a particular scene. - Kev
  8. Mods - please feel free to move this if required. I've just had a couple of tunes delivered and tried pitching them up during test plays....... MERCY - Willie Mitchell ( old club tune I'd completely forgotten about!). Pitched it at +10% and sounded not bad to my ears. DEED I DO - Mel Carter. Pitched this at +6% and thought it more suited to the floor. I don't generally pitch tunes up (or down) but having been recommended some years ago, by a well known name, to pitch up BROTHERS OF SOUL - Hurry, Don't Linger, that became an exception amongst my plays. I know that the Belgian Popcorn dj's regularly adjusts pitch on their plays. I'm also aware that some regard it almost as a sin. What do you think? Is there anything in your box that gets pitch adjustment - or that you think might benefit from it? - Kev
  9. Nor the inclination! Nor the dosh!!!!!!! Anyway I prefer the flip (and the Nolans) I do wish these sellers would leave "Northern" out of their descriptions. It's just annoying to get your searches clogged up with stuff like this. - Kev.
  10. Only 3 since my last post....... Conquistadors...Can't Stop Loving You...Act IV Bobby Guitar Woods...Mighty Nice To Know...Colt Sandra Phillips...You Succeeded...Broadway - Kev.
  11. You're not alone. The last year has been the worst for me - in hospital twice, once trying to sort out the degenerated discs in my lower back with injections (didn't work) and then again for keyhole surgery on a fcuk'd shoulder joint. Shoulders improved and I don't have to try and dance with my arm in a sling any more, but long distance driving is a bit difficult, so my social life is less than it was. Gritted teeth? - all the time............but it's worth it.
  12. Try any old record shop for the 25 and 50 vinyl type. Got mine as a freebie as the shop owner often buys small collections which come in these. He usually bins them. - Kev.
  13. Sounds very, very promising - and similar to a conversation I overheard outside at the last niter, so my guessing is this benefactor will remain anonymous. Hats off to you, whoever you are!
  14. I find it hard to believe......yet that is exactly the reason quoted by my local record shop for a sudden surge of interest!.... "They're all in here asking for vinyl that's on the soundtrack of that new soul film"
  15. So the mediators job is still up for grabs then? Maybe you should calm down and read things over again as you seem to be attributing a lot of comments to me which simply aren't mine and your being a bit presumptive about my stance on this. Welcome to Soul Source by the way.
  16. You should perhaps read the whole thread. By Kev's own admission he was convicted on three trademark offences and was heavily fined. What this has to do with his events promotion escapes me. If you are trying to make the point that anyone who appears to succeed in making a business out of their love for Northern Soul is setting themselves up for a fall, and often for unfair criticism and the baying for blood by the masses, then I will agree with you. The thread starter hasn't had much to say on this apart from stirring old news up with a link, and then attempting to return the thread to discussion on an individual. Personally, I thought it had become much more interesting once we'd all put our daggers away and moved on to more general discussion. - Kev
  17. Re Bobby Woods, you'll find it's evolved into a thread of it's own in the "The Sharp End Of Vinyl" section. The Freda Payne on Inferno must be comparatively low value, though interestingly the gold/cream vinyl shown is a different take to the norm. I think it's actually the original take before it was amended to help achieve chart success. If I remember correctly there's either an extra verse, or some of the lines are different and it was considered too gloomy. I'm sure there was a thread on it a few years back. Kev.
  18. Seen a few recently, of the same label design as your scan Dave, listed as "2nd Issue" or "70's Reissue". Sometimes difficult to tell wether label is a very feint blue/green or white though. Also seen these listed as originals: ........same design as Kris has, but with a Maddison address crossed through. Have to admit I was uncertain when I took a punt on one of these in the closing stages of an auction. - Kev
  19. Craig, what exactly do you mean by "stolen from me"? Every main line BR station in London must be smothered with CCTV. If you were robbed or had left an "unattended package", it will surely have been spotted by the cameras so have you reported the loss? Alternatively, if you have misplaced your bag then contacting the stations Lost Property office just might yield a result. Either way, good luck with getting your records back buddy. Moldie is right - how on earth did you manage such a precise list of what was in your playbox? Had it been me, I'd be struggling to remember what was packed so at least you've got a good start towards identifying your stuff. There's a record fair at Spitalfields Market, just down the road, on Fridays (alternate Fridays?) which might be a good place to start looking if the theft is down to a local opportunist. - Kev.
  20. Thing is, I was prepared to pay the tax on the full amount and would have taken this into account when bidding. It got me thinking though - what is the value of any 45? Is it the minimal value it was when first released, or the over-inflated price which the likes of us will pay for it after 40 yrs of wear and tear? I know I said before that I'd ASKED the seller to declare a mininum value - that was to allow a shorter post and was not srictly true ...... I contacted the seller before bidding to enquire what they were declaring as the value, not to suggest or demand - but to enquire. Having received a reply I bid accordingly and was surprised to find that they appeared to have back tracked on what they told me, hence the "unexpected" charges. Most of the charge was VAT. Is VAT due on 2nd hand goods? If not, it might have helped if the seller had declared "used vinyl record" but there was no indication that the item wasn't new. Like I said before, it could have been worse and I'm thankful for that. Just wish I'd have been able to calculate the true cost in advance. Kev.
  21. I get an Invoice from Parcelforce for £28.23 ..................and info which included that I can have it delivered on a Saturday for an extra £12. :ohmy:wtf !
  22. Are they on a GNP Crescendo?
  23. Is a clue hidden there - and is the guy at centre rear Webby's Internet Cafe "friend"?
  24. Is it the Four Lovers, the bloke on the left being a young Franki Valli?
