  1. Hi Paul, Looking forward to Southampton, and it'll be in the box but not sure yet if it'll make the cut - to busy on here when I should be sorting out the rest of my tunes! Bonus with Saturday is the clocks going back 'cos it means a late start at the 100 Club and also effectively cuts the journey from Southampton by an hour. See you at Ghetto Soul matey! - Kev
  2. Give me your Key-loc copy and I'll play them simultaneously on the decks at home. You're right though, there are differences in a lot of tunes - and no discernible difference (to me anyway) in others. One that's confusing me at the moment is the Madeline Strickland "Lonely Girl" double release on Mar-V-lus - but that's for another thread. - Kev.
  3. Ha! Never judge the quality on a Youtube post. Anyway, just to confuse the issue, that is a Key-loc pressing with a scan of the RPR pressing for some strange reason. - Kev edit....Can't keep up with my one finger typing. lol. So both of those clips are actually the key-loc pressing. I need a rest.
  4. Fair enough. - and I was having a laugh with my throw away comment btw. I don't have the Key-loc to compare so will reserve judgement but have heard other tunes i.e. Jimmy Conwell - Too Much, that would perhaps fit your description on sound quality and certainly don't class the RPR as such. Records are like jackets - they appear the same to some folk and totally different quality to others (private joke). 100 Club saturday? - Kev.
  5. Mmm. Or did you hear the Key-loc in a hall and listen to the RPR in your front room? Got to say that my RPR sounds just fine played good and loud. - Kev. Thanks Ian, I was hoping that to be the case. Also considering that Key-loc is such a small and very local label, and is owned by Sunny Ozuna (maybe by another family member originally) and probably set up for recording and promoting his work, then it's perhaps not far off being a Private Press. I'll have no hesitation in playing the RPR .....anywhere. - Kev.
  6. Mmm. Or did you hear the Key-loc in a hall and listen to the RPR in your front room? Got to say that my RPR sounds just fine played good and loud. - Kev.
  7. Great news! The perfect design for shoving it up your @rse. - Kev
  8. Yes, mine too Russell. Thanks for the replies guys. I reckoned I'd figured it out but wasn't 100% certain. - Kev.
  9. That post was expected but came sooner than I thought! Yep it's a nice double sider but the faster side is the one that really does it for me. I always play the flip when I buy vinyl and have had more than a few nice surprises. - Kev
  10. Thanks Boba, I bought the RPR on impulse when I first heard it. Had an inkling that it might be on Key-loc, and of course it was. I'm more than happy to own it and play it but wouldn't want to call in to question the "ovosity" of anyone else's event. - Kev
  11. What's the score with Sunny & the Sunliners - If I Could See You Now The Key-loc output consists mainly of this groups titles, so is RPR a national release which closely followed the local Key-loc release?. Or was it a much later release? For the purists, is Key-loc the only issue deemed suitable for OVO venues? I've seen it questioned as to wether the two releases are different versions, but they sound identical to me. Not had much joy on searching for info on this so any assistance from those more knowledgeable than I would be greatly appreciated. - Kev
  12. Same answer that I've given before... JOE WALKER - THIS IS MY LAST GOODBYE Preceded by ....either "Jerusalem" or "I Vow To Thee My Country" And followed by...."Nellie The Elephant" ('cos I'll have packed my trunk and said goodbye to the circus) - Kev
  13. The Skyliners - Everything Is Fine. Jubilee. Just pulling out a few tunes to play. This was the last one back in the box. - Kev.
  14. Nah, a couple of weeks later one of the two young girls he was with had her photo in the papers as they'd just got engaged. - Kev
  15. How come I never find these bars! Now on the list are: *The Sandwich Bar, Alcudia, Mallorca *Dub Club, calle Jesus 91, Valencia. (check dates). *The Happy drinker, Salou, Costa Dorada, Spain. *Calle de Mallorca (find the karaoke guy who plays Northern) I've included Bearsy's even in the absence of a bar name - if it's a small resort maybe you'll stumble across him. - Kev.
  16. Well I like it........but Pam say's "NO! Not at all - they sound stupid tgether!" She's usually right you know. - Kev
  17. One from me. We were in Valencia in April and decided one night to seek out Bar Pinball which had been the venue for the warm up of one of the "Big Thing" weekenders. We were bitterly disappointed. There was a young modish crowd in from about midnight and the dj, who was an Alice Cooper clone, played loads of retro stuff but very little (if any) that I would call soul. Maybe I just got the wrong night. I wouldn't add it to a soul venue list but for those that might be into retro 60's-80's pop, beat, or whatever you call it - the address is Concordia 3, barrio del Carmen. One that I will recommend, again in Valencia, is the Dub Club, (calle Jesus, 3.Valencia). A nice friendly Spanish crowd (I was constantly asked if I knew Ady Lupton and Yann Vatiste), and some nice crossover and modern spun on vinyl with a smattering of classic northern (might have been for my benefit). The venue hosts a variety of nights and live bands so you have to pick the right night. When we attended we had to wait outside for the spanish stand-up comedy act and punters to clear the building after midnight before the venue was transformed to a soul nite. We were invited along by Jose Mardi (Mardi on this site) who we first met in his Valencia record store. If you're going to Valencia it would be worth contacting him for dates. So, pending further details and posts - we've got just two: * The Sandwich Bar, Alcudia, Mallorca *Dub Club, calle Jesus 91, Valencia. (check dates). Any more?
  18. They don't have a fancy dress night too do they? Think I'd prefer the car/cd option myself, but thanks for posting. Is the Northern spun on a different night, or is it thrown in amongst all the other tosh?
  19. Thanks guys! That's the first one pinpointed on the map then.... * The Sandwich Bar, Alcudia, Mallorca
  20. Nice one Paul and you're forgiven for the laptop set - needs must eh? This is just the sort of thing that I'm talking about and that I'm sure so many of us have experienced. Considering that you were asked to go back anytime I'm presuming that the guy does the venue regularly so if you remember any more exact details of where it was, pass them on. Be nice to get a list of such places put together. - Kev Quick edit - Sorry, didn't see you'd said Calla de Mallorca. Don't recall which bar do ya?
  21. How often have you been on holiday and found yourself missing your soul fix? If you've longed to escape the fake flamenco and Europop shite that your hotel dishes out, then like myself you might resort to the comfort of your air-conditioned hire car and the stack of CD's that you took with you. Spain is my destination of choice, and I've never failed to bump into others who were yearning for some decent sounds. There are often posts on here asking "any soul in ..........? So ....where are these places? Anywhere in the world where you've stumbled across that venue (I wish!),? Club, bar, anywhere with even a decent jukebox really. I don't mean the well known events - Soul In The Sun, Costa del Soul, etc. I mean the sort of places that would never normally get mentioned on here, but which did that little bit to make your holiday special. Over to you good people.... Where was your soul oasis?
  22. Booted on ATLAS (there's one on Ebay now for 9.99). On a VINTAGE SOUL E.P. , and I'm pretty sure there's a looky-likey boot too. Oh, and this description found on popsike. The pic is a stock copy MB: BOBBY KLINE - (a) SAY SOMETHING NICE TO ME, (b) SAME, GRADES EX, TOP QUALITY NORTHERN SOUL, SELDOM COMES UP FOR SALE, THIS LOOKS LIKE IT IS A ONE OFF DOUBLE SIDED RECORDING WITH PRINTED LABELS TAKEN OFF THE ORIGINAL, ALSO AS THE (TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS) LABEL ON THE OTHER SIDE, REALLY DOES LOOK GOOD, (SEE PHOTO). PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL, GOOD LUCK IN BIDDING :Kev
  23. Nice informative article Dell. Interesting magazine too and I'll read the rest of it later. - Kev.
  24. Don't know...if I could...bear... to read it...but...I'll have...a go. - Kev.
