  1. Hmmm, now I'm begining to doubt myself. Difficult though 'cos I've known a few females that look good in reclining mode, but then look totally different in the morning! I just thought the doubt was caused by the image in the link (initial post) being distorted - and therefore looking nothing like Etta. Whereas without that distortion there is some resemblance. Any room on that fence Pete? - Kev.
  2. I thought she was lighter skinned too, but on viewing a gallery of her photo's I'm still not sure. She looks darker in some but they're black & white photo's so still difficult to judge. I wonder if her skin tone could have lightened over the years, either naturally or cosmetically? Maybe even to make her more acceptable to a wider American market. A shame if that is the case, but understandable I guess. - Kev
  3. Wow, that's a nice little story Pete. I haven't seen that footage, but I'd like to even though I don't particularly like that track. Anyway what do you reckon of the album cover - is it Etta or not? - Kev
  4. Yes Pete, very early r & b. Not to my taste at all. JM has supplied a handful of soundclips if you follow the link in the first post. - Kev
  5. That's a bit unnecessary mate. I get a bit tired of your jokey quips when they are all you can add to serious threads, and in this case your timing makes it offensive.
  6. I'm not so sure. For some reason the album image in the link is distorted. The album cover is rectangular and not square as it should be, so the face is narrowed and lengthened. The undistorted image is much more of a likeness: Now what do you reckon? I say it's Etta. - Kev
  7. An inspiration to many, and a great loss. R.I.P. Etta James.
  8. Might depend on how liberal you are with your music categories.... Xtina's Xmas - Christina Aguilera - Kev
  9. I've only listened to the first hour so far and though I like to be open minded there's very little that floats my boat so far - and certainly not in a 100 Club or niter context. I'm hoping too that a few things are being kept under wraps, but having just heard Ian say that he hopes that the podcast introduces a few sounds that will be firm favourites by the time he play's them at the 100 Club, well, I'm not very optimistic. Undoubtedly there will be a few non-regulars along for the occasion which may or may not be a good thing. I'll be there but from what I've heard so far I think I might have to take an extra pack of cigarettes. - Kev.
  10. Chalky, I'm not telling anyone to do or not to do anything. The initial post was asking for peoples views on the subject and I've given mine. I don't expect it to make the least difference to what anybody actually does . - Kev.
  11. Yes, like the Guitar Ray, though I doubt that would have gone unnoticed for long (oh look - it's there on the site's ebay ad). That particular item was probably correctly graded and a soundclip was supplied, the rest of the blurb that was objected to was likely the sellers standard format for his vinyl sales so I had no problem with it. Probably more like pete S and his recent good fortune with the mis-spelt "Epitone Of Sound" find on ebay, where his hard work and good fortune could so easily have been for nothing had it been posted about on here. - Kev
  12. I totaly agree Bob. It's bad enough IMO the site having ebay advertisements constantly showing to those that opt for them. It's very frustrating to see that something your watching is suddenly broadcast to the whole of soul source. Commenting on ridiculous prices/boots etc is a different matter of course. - Kev.
  13. That was the one that reminded me of Oliver Reed's alcohol inspired rendition of "Wild One"! Not the singing I might add, but the way she sent the mike stand flying, and teetered around the stage in those heels - I thought she was gonna come a cropper! - Kev
  14. I used to really fancy Sandy Shaw when I was 12. For a 64 year old, that's 6 years older than both Cindy Lauper and Betty Wright, I thought she looked and sounded (well almost) pretty good. Fair play to her I say. I agree, Gregory Porter was brilliant - but why the dodgy headgear? With a voice like that he doesn't need a gimmick. I enjoyed all the acts and they fitted in well with Jools' diverse party atmosphere. Was most looking forward to Betty Wright but I have to say that Ruby Turner edged it for me. ....and what about Rico Rodriguez, vocals and trombone at 77. Fantastic! Did anone spot the guy in the suit dancing to one of Aloe Blacc's numbers and doing the dummy backdrop? (twist to the right, put your arm down behind you, lean back and bend your knees - then straighten back up when reality hits you). Anyone know who it was? - Kev
  15. Jools Holland just asked a dwarf what the highs and lows of his year were! So far, Sandy Shaw still ain't got any shoes but she certainly has legs, Betty Wright has been excellent, Ruby Turner stormed it, and Cindy Lauper reminded me of Oliver Reed's memorable "Wild One" rendition. Hats off to Jools Holland for the diversity of the musicians he sets before us. - Kev
  16. As it's the wife's birthday today i let her watch it as a special treat. After all I did put her on my decks once as "Pamela Motown" lol. - Kev
  17. I was watching it anyway. Happy New Year Brian
  18. Shame on the BBC for including this clip. Not the way Motown should be remembered - nor martha Reeves for that matter. Agree the first 20 minutes or so seemed very promising - the finale fell a bit flat (in more ways than one). - Kev.
  19. Wouldn't it be ironic if the only person who's posts I can't see as they've been blocked, became Poster of the Year. - Kev.
  20. Hi Paul, I'll take the Lefties Soul Connection of yer hands mate. - Kev
  21. Just a thought - have you left FEEDBACK for this seller. You haven't named him and it would be nice for other potential buyers to be forewarned. A simple search shows that a Ex+ copy sold on here recently, I don't know if it was your seller but he has a number of M sales still up, along with numerous Ex's and just a couple of VG's. Has made a fair few sales from his list too. Maybe he only sells decent copies, or maybe his rather sparse grading system is his get out clause .... M Mint/ Probably unplayed Ex Few light marks, still a nice copy Vg More marks, maybe some surface noise but plays thru ok Is this your seller? Has anyone else had problems? No way of telling, 'cos no one has left any Feedback! - Kev
  22. Paul, you might have trouble locating it on here at the 'mo 'cos it's a Refosoul clip. Looking back through old threads it seems Sister Dawn was trying to download it so she might still have a copy. Still my fave flyer! - Kev.

  24. Hi Pete. I hope he doesn't mind me repeating this story but Dave Moore met these guys in the States. I think it was during one of the "Soultrip" things. Apparently four(?) black guys were sat in a bar he was at, and thinking that they looked like band members he went and asked. Turns out they had heard the Brits were in town and in reply to his question said "Yes - we're the Adams Apples". Don't know what reply they gave to Dave's informing them that everyone in the UK thought that they were white! - Kev.
  25. Definately NOT blue-eyed. - Kev
