  1. I used to pretend that I went to the Wheel, when Jnr Walker was on. (If questioned i couldn't remember much 'cos I had blockers block). - but that was when I was16 or 17 and eager to impress. I never did make it there and would have liked to attend the last 'niter - but I figured it should be left to those that held it dear. Same with the Torch re-unions - I declined tickets for the first one 'cos I reckoned I couldn't "re-unite" as I never went to Hose St. Never went to Wigan either, and didn't fancy it at the time - though I feel now as though I missed out on something special. I've got my own memories of little places, forgoten by some and unheard of by many, that were special to me and I don't feel the need to fabricate. The only people this seems to mildly disappoint are the younger crowd in Europe, who seem a bit surprised that an old fart like me wouldn't have attended the legendary venues that they seem to know so much about. But it really doesn't matter. Cut the crap if you're a bullsh!tter - it's unneccessary and you're fooling no-one but yourself! That said, if a tune was a Torch or Wheel classic, there's sod all wrong with saying so ( mmm....even if it was played in a barn in Northants/Beds first). - Kev
  2. Buy a pair of trashed decks at a car boot and Bluetack coins to the cartridges for a bit of extra weight. Then ensure that your dad sees what your about to start playing his vinyl on. He should either lock his vinyl away or sort you out with some decent decks. - Kev
  3. Thanks guys. Was hoping to find a chain that stocked it to negate yet another "To large for letterbox" from the postie. How do Mark. Must catch up at Solid Hit sometime soon. - Kev.
  4. That's great news Paul. Nice to hear that some are using Ambersil and that it worked for you as I've suggested this a few times over the years on here. It's what the top-notch CSI guys use for cleaning up their equipment so as not to contaminate further crime scenes. Lots of similar products were tested and Ambersil came out a clear winner. All of my vinyl gets the Ambersil treatment before It's first spin. I used to get mine from work and I'm running low - does anyone know where you can pick this stuff up retail? - Kev
  5. Yep, I bought it years ago and remember the faulty track listing. Luckily I didn't buy it just for the Johnny Rodgers.
  6. Here's a couple more....... Wendell Watts....Grooviest Thing This Side Of Heaven , on Jiminie (especially the intro), Lee Timan & The Secrets....She's The One I Love, on WHIT. Bloody awful recording, which is a pity 'cos I love the tune. Got to agree with the Jimmy Conwell...Too Much , on Gemini. - I heard a sound clip of this off an ebay sale that sounded crystal clear, but it wasn't on Gemini. Can't remember the label but does anyone know if it came out legitimately on anything other than Gemini? - Kev.
  7. I took early retirement 16 months ago and had big plans of seeking out some long term "wants" to be funded from my lump sum. That soon got knocked on the head once I realised that my savings were diminishing pretty rapidly and that our lifestyle meant that our monthly outgoings were exceeding our income.Currently I'm buying nothing, but still can't stop searching for stuff . Old habits die hard. It's not just the vinyl collecting that's been affected. Travelling the country to various venues is now a real rarity rather than a weekly occurence which is a shame. Probably living so far south has something to do with this as a night out often means a weekend away. On the few occasions that I have got out and about recently it's been heartening to discover that I still have so many good friends on the scene, and for those brief moments it seems like I've never been away. Will I get rid of my vinyl? I doubt it. I have thought of selling all my boots/re-issues etc (especially my Stardust Tempests lol.) as they've been sat untouched in boxes for years and I don't even play them at home. That might change soon as we're off to Spain. If we re-locate permanently a decent night out will be even more of a rarity so some of those old copies just might get dusted off for home use (I'll hide them if Dave Moore visits!) Needless to say my hopes of replacing them all with the genuine article is now just a pipe dream. Will I lose touch with the scene? Not if I can help it! I've been around a bit and led a varied life and have yet to find anything that matches the friendliness and cameraderie that exists on the soul scene. And on top of that there's the music - what more can you ask for? Plenty of do's in Spain and I'm especially looking forward to the 2012 Hitsville weekender, plus I'll be back for the occasional 100 Club and other events. What I really need to find though is a regular monthly/bi-monthly do in Spain. Maybe I'll start one - who knows. So there you have it... Selling up - No Giving up - No Buying - the jury is out. Now, if anyone wants to send me some nice vinyl for my forthcoming 60th- don't be shy! - Kev
  8. Probably Rich Chorley was gonna be on the team and the TV people backed out 'cos it's only a 30 minute programme. - Kev
  9. I know what you mean Dave, but it's your neck of the woods and no longer mine. Spain beckons. Tempests on the terrace but not on the dancefloor! - Kev.
  10. No it's not OK. I've got a Stardust copy that I paid £2.50 for. I would gladly have paid twice that so that I can stick it in a jukebox when I get one. Fine to play at home - and that's about the only place for it. - Kev.
  11. Really?....they didn't just ignore it, but actually moved away rather than deal with it. Unbelievable! - Kev
  12. The ONE that never fails for me.......Love, Love, Love - Bobby Hebb. There can't be just one though, so to the list I'd add.. You've Been Cheating - Impressions Rainy Day - Parliaments She Doesn't Love me - Ray & Blue Satins ....and lots more. - Kev
  13. Off topic I know, but Fek me - $4,500 for the Bin Laden poster. I had one and gave it away . - Kev
  14. What condition are they in?
  15. Pete, it works exactly the same as Ebay's condemnation of bootlegs. Advertising them is not allowed, selling them is not allowed. Both happen frequently and often on multiple items. They might even get reported by numerous folk on here, to no avail because they can't be ar$ed. But they do have the power to act and just occasionally might. I heard of an Ebay/Paypal transaction where a very expensive violin was traded. The buyer professed it was a copy. Paypal refunded but Paypal(or Ebay) demanded proof from the buyer that the violin had been destroyed! Now wouldn't that set the cat amongst the pigeons if they did the same with vinyl.lol. Stay lucky! - Kev.
  16. Bob, you are quite correct. I wasn't advocating that though, but rather that the sellers fees are taken into account when they price their goods. - Kev.
  17. Pete, your reputation precedes you. I'd have no problem in gifting you a payment - but as I stated (re-itterated by Pomonkey) Paypal might. I do object though to purchasing a record and later being told that only Paypal gift would be acceptable as "there's nothing in the rules against it". That wasn't from you I might add, but it was a purchase on here which I didn't continue with. - Kev
  18. I'm sure that you don't Andy, and I'm sure others will expand on that. I think I'm correct in saying that paying by gift is against Paypal Terms & Conditions if you are paying for goods/services purchased. A seller that asks you to do this is in breach of those T&C's and according to Paypal is at risk of having their account suspended/closed. Personally, I don't mind gifting to a mate or someone i know and trust, but I do object to being asked to or told that I must. Account for your fees and price accordingly. - Kev
  19. Good to see that this issue is resolved now. Craig, that's a reasonable explananation but you really should have made your imminent absence clear to any buyer beforehand. On the odd occasion I've purchased at a higher price from a UK seller (as opposed to buying from the U.S. and expecting it to take longer to arrive) simply because I wanted to add a tune to a forthcoming playlist. I'd have been a bit miffed then if my experience had been similar to Daz's. Lessons learned all around I guess. - Kev
  20. Look at his profile. This was the guy who lost his record box in London in Dec 2010 and was quick enough to accept replacements from folks on here. At that time he posted his contact number as 07952716787. Hope you get sorted. - Kev
  21. Thinking of adding these to my watch list. - Kev.
  22. Hey, isn't that Etta James? OK I concede defeat. No problem - I'm quite used to being wrong about most things! - Kev
  23. Saw a photo of Jackie Wison once, and he looked like a big fat white darts player. - Kev.
  24. Will the real Etta James please stand up.
  25. I'd noticed that, but percieved defects often get airbrushed out at some stage. ......I think I'm clutching at straws now though! You got a scan of the Etta James Sings album to post up? -Kev.
