  1. Nonsense...you're just confusung the issue by sticking the word "original" wherever you feel like it. What next - original bootlegs? The first pressing is the original, a later re-press may be legitimate but should never be referred to as original. But I suspect you knew that. - Kev
  2. I doubt it. if you mean the one with Levanna dancing. That vid soundtrack is interspersed with the Spanish street band. More likely from Ace's own site. Is nothing sacred? - Kev
  3. That's the one Haydn Sorry, didn't realise you'd already bought this to attention on here. - Kev.
  4. I can. Some ebay sales prices defy all logic. - Kev
  5. Ok, the long awaited 100 Club favourite , September Jones' "Voo doo Madamoiselle" gets it's vinyl release Monday 31st March. Thanks to Ady and the boys at Ace/Kent for making this available in the correct manner and ensuring that, as usual, royalties are paid to the artist. So why oh why does ebay seller soulwaxni deem it neccessary to already flog a boot on the soulwax label. I don't recognise the name but certainly the location - Bangor, county Down, which has been the location for the production or distribution of numerous boots in the past, many of which were reported by ss members. Can't anyone stop this thieving magpie cnut. Permanently. - Kev
  6. Missed the beginning of the programme and turned it on to a bit about adopting an old guy and taking him out for a pint. I wondered where the music was. As it turned out that was the only bit worth watching unless you like elephants. - kev
  7. Flipped over Trini lopez - Unchain My Heart, and jeez it was bad....If I had a hammer I'd have smashed it. - Kev
  8. Sorry but got to go against the flow here - is this another case of the Emperors new clothes? A nice tune, a fine voice, but overall pretty mediocre IMO and instantly forgetable. - Kev
  9. Same on Freesat, usually in 2 parts on consecutive nights. - Kev
  10. They all bottled it (thankfully). It was cold, we'd both left home with nowhere to go, and I was dying for a hot coffee to warm up with. - Kev
  11. Walked in to a packed Greasers late night cafe in '69, just me my girl a Crombie and a suitcase, and put Marvin Gaye on the jukebox. - Kev
  12. Why not just trim the inner paper sleeves so that they fit? OK you'll only have 2 sealed sides but unless you want to remove the inner paper sleeve from the card sleeve before you get to your vinyl there's no problem. - Kev
  13. Sorry Kevin, it's not you nor anyone that I know who is currently 'active' on the scene. When I say toured the southern counties I mean lived in various areas - until his dirty deeds caused him to move on. Nor is it anyone I would normally associate with my home county of Northants. According to Kimbo he's likely living in Skeggy now ( he's not the culprit in kimbo's case btw) Not gonna name him as I don't want to forewarn him of what's gonna happen once he's located. Anyone that wants to know can PM me or look at post #119 of the 2011 'Soul Scene Villains' thread. What price friendship eh? Kev
  14. I know someone who's back in Northants having apparently toured the southern counties being light fingered and conning cash out of his mates (myself included) before moving on. PM'd ya mate. - Kev
  15. Hello mate, I'd be very wary of poking another stick in the hornets nest whilst Keb is still in the firing line - unless he personally agrees to your actions. That mayor and his buddies could easily put 2 and 2 together - leaving Keb to suffer the consequences while you're safely esconced back in the UK. His time will come. We know Keb has already exposed this guy, but that was out of necessity in an effort to get immediate aid to those that needed it. Got to say too that why do "profiled money folk" and their entourage of security and media types need to be there? The cost would be better served IMO in getting relief workers out there. I was hoping to get there myself, as DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) is one of my capabilities, but companies I am associated with appear not to be involved. - Kev
  16. I think that would have been Kelmarsh, which Ady is on record as stating as his introduction to the scene. There were a few others around that area and always tucked well away - the greyhound track at Earls Barton (near to the George at Wilby, already mentioned),the Red House (Halfway House?) between Northampton and Kettering, and Bletsoe at a pig farm over the border in bedfordshire. Happy days, err ..nights. - Kev
  17. Cos it beat spending all night in the motorway services, slotting your vinyl into a portable player and talking bollox to your mates. Let's face it - sleep wasn't an option. - Kev
  18. I agree with you Pete - far better than remixes that I've heard. I can live with it, mainly 'cos I won't be listening to it ! Nothing like as bad as the Jackie Lee fiasco IMO as that was messing about with a classic recording by a Soul legend and was unforgiveable. - Kev
  19. Someone needs a slap. - Kev
  20. Now I can agree. It was the 'Premier League' exclusivity that got me. I've seen big name dj's turn up to play nothing but big bucks tunes and frankly that has shown a lack of imagination IMO. What excites me is the lesser known guys who do use imagination and mix in a good proportion of forgotten and underplayed stuff into their sets - not dismissing anything 'cos it only cost a fiver. - Kev
  21. Having great taste is exclusive to only a small group of 'Premier League' DJ's ? .....and that's what seperates them from the rest ? You're havin' a laugh. - Kev
  22. Spot on Manus, particularly the "being able to jive to" part - my personal criteria exactly! Can never forget an "old soul" venue in Northants (The George, at Wilby), prior to the Northern Soul tag I was going there and listening to the likes of the Invitations, Major Lance, Superlatives,Poets, Jackie Lee, etc, etc. The venue had been frequented by my cousin a few years earlier ('66/'67?). When she found out I was going she said "Oh, you like R&B then?". "Is Gibby Dj'in there? Does little Gilly still go?" There you go, same dj's, same crowd, same core music, different titles - R&B / Old Soul / Northern Soul. I guess it's evolution. Personally I think Ady Croasdell has it right with "Rhythm and Soul" - Kev
  23. Ha, no not a Social Scientist! Never been a fan of statistics as they always seem to be missing something significant which would drastically alter what they pretend to portray. On another note - thanks to all for mentioning the Jazz Workshop LP which I had no idea about. You live and learn. - Kev
  24. Yep, that was the one I didn't like. They didn't say jazz group - they said jazz BAND. That makes me think of Kenny Ball. Does singing a few jazz standards make you a jazz band/group? What about their doowop stuff? I'd always imagined their roots lay there, but am willing to be enlightened. - Kev
  25. ....and had a 50% chance if he'd done it blindfold! 80% for me with no cheating. 90% if I cheat - 'cos I didn't like one of the answers. - Kev
