  1. Pile of sh!te ! - Kev
  2. Hi Dan, I'm not familiar with the fade-in version so presume it's just done to enable a bit more space on a crammed compilation CD. The original vinyl has the piano intro and I doubt any serious DJ would have played any other version. - Kev
  3. Just wear a skirt on each leg like some of the blokes I've seen. - Kev
  4. I take the tunes played and made popular before the mid 70's as the oldies, rather than the recording or release date. Like you say, it's all subjective. - Kev
  5. I wouldn't bother guys. David Smothers obviously can't be arsed to yay or nay any of the suggestions to date, and hasn't been on here since the 7th Sept - the day after he joined. - Kev
  6. A pity that this fine example of messing about with an original work relates to 'The Snake' - a tune which, in it's original state, seems to arouse such venom (no pun intended). That aside, as a dancer, what would I think if I heard it played in the main room of a venue? 1 Why is The Snake being played. 2 Why has it been messed about with. 3. Why is it so long (over 5 min) 4. Why is it called the 'Senior Citizens Mix'........six of them have just had heart attacks trying to dance til the end of what they thought was a 2 and 1/2 minute tune. 5. Why did I come here 6 Why am I still here You can abbreviate all of the above to the one word...WHY. As a collector, what would I think if I heard it played in the main room of a venue? You nearly got me there....I almost thought it was a serious question! - Kev
  7. Really hope you get your vinyl back. Not being funny, but as these were 'robbed' ...'possibly from Stretford or Chorlton'...is there a possibility that they have just been misplaced and lost? If my playbox was missing I would definately know where I last had it. I take it any possible venues or trains/buses/cabs have been checked out? Good Luck - Kev
  8. Nice one Dave ! - Kev
  9. Just as an aside, after posting this on here as part of a 2009 playlist, I was contacted by Larry Patterson who's band the UP-SET were backing/studio musicians on this tune. Here's what he had to say: "a little tib bit about Call On Me! The singers could not really hit the HIGHS, so my lead singer Joey Guarino dubbed them in,.....ha ha" and, "Also our voices were dubbed in. here is the breakdown. of the UP=SET (Music Combination) my band: Joey Guarino~Lead vocals Larry Patterson~Sax~vocals Denny Gill~Trumpet~vocals Billy Sparks~Bass~vocals Tom Somich~Drums~vocals Frank Donahue~Guitar~vocals Then there were the Presentations 4 black guys If I remember and a few strings were added." - Kev
  10. Still can't see anything Henning - somethings trying to load, but failing. - Kev
  11. You spoke to me as sharp as any knife Why do you bring such misery to my life - Gene Toones...What More Do You Want - Kev
  12. Maybe they are going straight for the market that don't give a hoot about ovo and therefore won't care that it's also a boot? i.e. the who cares what it's on brigade. Ultimately there will probably be less fuss made about it and they'll sell a lot more copies. That's just a guess btw. - Kev
  13. So if it's only one copy of Rita & Tiaras, is it vg++ or near mint ? - Kev
  14. ....Why couldn't I explain that all the tears and the pain you feel today will save you a solemn tomorrow. IMO - Kev
  15. R.I.P. Joe. A sad and premature loss to the scene and to this site. Condolences to family & friends. - Kev
  16. They may be, I don't know so was wrong to presume. Post amended accordingly. - Kev
  17. 70's boot on Riverside, and a brand new release on HIB: (On closer inspection it looks like it's an Inferno release, with the HIB label reproduced with permission.) ....with The Webs....Give In on the flip - at least 5 copies currently on the bay. - Kev
  18. Done that, but got no image. Could just be me. Never mind. - Kev.
  19. What record box? Am I supposed to join or sign in to something in order to view it? - Kev
  20. I'm good Dave, or I was until I fell over. Vid 2 reminded me of a few I've seen at 'local' soul nights. It's the innocenti effect. - Kev
  21. Dave, what exactly were you looking for when you found this? - Kev
  22. Russ, my previous posts were generalising, hence equating free entry with dj's plying their trade for free. There are obvious exceptions .....charity events (though they shouldn't be free admission IMO), and a few events where collectors and music fans gather together to celebrate the artists and their output - Dave Moore's brilliant Hitsville Weekenders being a notable example. You're very lucky to find a venue that pays you, and it's admirable that your profits are used to pay your dj's. Not the sort of event I was talking about in my generalisation, and I must pay another visit to Peterboro soon - it's been too long. I will add that on a number of occasions, at various venues, I've been offered free entry (for distance travelled or helping set up etc) , but insist on paying as I reckon the the promoters and dj's at the places I attend are worth every penny they can get. - Kev
