I actually think the guy has a point, he's just isn't making it very well. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that artists from the U.S. north would be called our "northern soul brothers", soul brother being a ubiquitous term amongs't black Americans. What is causing the problem, is that the use and origins of the term is totally different on either side of the pond, something I don't think he understands.
I don't actually think he should be talking about "northern soul brothers".
I think what he really means is northern "Soul Brothers"
What we would be talking about re the UK originated scene is "Northern Soul" brothers.
