  1. I can see the logic here. I wouldn't say you need to have had the big ticket records though just heard them lots and lots over a number of years so when you spend you want something different. Not something you know inside out.
  2. its a slippery slope but sounds like you've got the bug good and proper now. Its frightening how easy it is to refer to a 75-100 record as cheap and not even think it remotely strange to spending that sort of money. I think there's a few of us now who came over from the house music era.
  3. i'm having a mainstream phase just now. example being Bar-Kays "Summer of our love" and this... which is sensational. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGAvP_c9AqQ things like tomangoes are always going to sound. They don't reach cult status for nothing. you've got pretty mixed taste which is a good thing in my book.
  4. you'll have to work on the sales pitch a bit. just out of interest what tracks have you heard so far on the northern scene that you have realy liked ? this is not a test i'm just curious..... I won 't be giving you marks out of 10
  5. just played this and decided its worth a mention.. Billy Jackson TCB - Brunswick should be a cheapie I think ? a very good dancer. another one of the 45s I baught for the deep side and got a pleasent suprise when I flipped it over.
  6. if it was only the "normal" people that had children then the world would be a better place....
  7. it certainly is agree totally. the more you can learn the more chance of finding good 45s cheap. i've been "into" soul for prehaps 8-9 years now and I don't think you ever stop hearing new records.
  8. a touch more expensive than the admirations as well. but so much better. "and if you think i'd beg you baby......" quality.
  9. good thread. from a purely financial point of view... If you knew for a fact you can sell a 45 for a grand then would you bat an eyelid a spending 600 or so on it ? its just being confident you can make the sale or having to money to go for it. I personally don't have that kind of money to tie up and apart from the odd exception just look to build my colection as cheap as possible. Spares have to be realy cheap to get me interested. My spending has gone down dramitically but there have been times in the past where all my dispoable income has gone on 45s for a good few months. I can't believe you suggested there are drug dealers on the northern soul scene its the cleanest living bunch of people i've ever met.
  10. or right group wrong titile ? "you better think again"
  11. I paid $7 for my duff thurmond but it has sold for up to about $90 on ebay. very good record.
  12. just 2 of a batch that came last week... Morris Jefferson on Good Luck (Fantastic both sides) Coffee on Love lite ( 1 side so far has clicked with me not listened to other much) lots of others.
  13. I spent a long time looking for the James Bell never did get one in the end. Saw a few for sale but I always wanted one for less. nice record.
  14. I like the "weirdos" quote. thats exactly how it should be. Everybody equal and out for a good time no matter what age / image / dress sense. Must admit in my early years on the soul scene which wasn't that long ago I never had any problems.
  15. same seller who had them before betwen $50 and $100. And now less than 1/2 what i paid. stock seems to have gone down a bit now as well. IF this is a genuine case of 10 copies only left then they should get snapped up. Tempted to get myself a spare now.
  16. you probably already know this but it isn't the flip to "help me make up my mind" google isn't much help either not with the searches I just tried.
  17. so did I. I still do......
  18. always liked this one myself.... full of energy. didn't like it enough to keep it though sold for about 25 quid a couple of years ago so no doubt will soon be 100 quid.
  19. even if a boot was rarer than an original can't see why you would want one ? surely you would still buy the original. but going on seb's comments some people may be sat on boots they think are originals etc etc.
  20. well its sods law now that it will go up in value as I only baught 1 for my collection and no spares. not sure if it has any dancefloor appeal which seems to be the main driver in price increases... but its a great record.
  21. when do you stop being young ? when does the x-over to oldness happen
  22. are they allowed to do that ?
  23. a few months ago a seller had them as BIN on ebay with something like 20 available. He started about $100 and then gradually dropped price to about $50. Its a very good record IMO and probably suffered a price drop as this guys copies sat on ebay not selling for quite a while. Not seen them for a while though but I don't think that they all sold ? sorry can't remember who it was ..... also just seen that moerer has sold one for $50 auction after having it as a $150 set sale for some time. could creep up a bit again if these copies all went into collections ?

  25. yes the deep soul thread is very good. my offering for now though would be Loretta Williams "I'm missing you" sensational. I think the other side could easily be classed as northern ?
