  1. No not another one..........I'm off to bed...........but I'll be back tomorrow Cheers Martyn
  2. Carms The splits are too deep for us owld gits now, they won't be resolved until there isn't a baggy trouser to be wafted or chin to be stroked (sorry Des).So for your utopia to appear it will have to wait until most of us are back dropping in the nighter in the sky & the scene will be back to a small number of dedicated soulies who are now the "young un's"..............the only problem with that is they will have been on the scene for a number of years by then so will have had time to have there own differences between themselves so will be going off in all directions & keep the good old politics well & truly alive Cheers Martyn the optimist
  3. Derek As always the voice of reason......& quite a prompt post by your playlist standards Cheers Martyn
  4. Nearly spot on,the only thing I take slight exception to is the "cause no trouble & follow etiquette" bit? From previous answers on this thread we are to dissolve all previous rules that has taken us the best part of 40+ years to put in place & respect in a spirit of including all, because we should be open to all & not expect people to behave in the way we have been brought up to do.So if they want to fight & throw beer on the dancefloor so be it,because they're new & we want to include them & put no pressure on them with our elitist ways..........yes I'm been pedantic & I'm sorry I've used your answer to make my point because you make some very good points. We seem to be pussy footing around here..........I'm proud to be elitist,I'm proud I'm dedicated,I'm proud I'm not like everyone else,I'm proud I don't have to make apologies for that. I'm aghast that some people think it's OK for people to come in and not learn our ways & start dictating how we behave? Why if someone turns up at a couple of soul night's should they expect the same respect that those who have shown the dedication & commitment over time get.I would hope they would aspire to want such respect,so to get that they would learn our ways & after time they will get it.........just like we had to. Cheers Martyn
  5. But do the rightful owners know that they're there Cheers Martyn part of the East Hull set...........membership of one
  6. Would they be under cover Chin Strokers then..........or C/U Chin Strokers even Cheers Martyn
  7. I'd like to go to see what it's like but the kids would only think I was squad..........I remember when I was the one thinking anyone over 25 at a nighter was squad.........god I feel old.............oh no I am old Cheers Old Martyn
  8. Can't help with sheet music but here's a couple uptempo tunes that fit the bill? Bonnie Brisker-So Much Lovin Magic City The Bobbettes-Having Fun RCA More if you want them? Cheers Martyn
  9. I'm getting a bit bored with all this really...........baggie trousers, nostalger, blah, blah. It is what it is & I'll just try to avoid coming into contact with such events as I have little in common with the night's or the people who frequent them. I keep hearing about keeping it an underground scene? So pick night's at the other end of the spectrum of the mainstream ones & it still is because you won't be seeing any of that lot at them. Failing that we could always contact some of the right rough twats who used to frightened the life out of us at nighters back in the day & tell them what easy picking there are to be had at northern night's these days. They'd soon thin the crowds out & probably make a few bob along the way Cheers Martyn
  10. Russ That's a little bit of the problem? There's still a few night's about that are worth going to so people (me included) feel there's no real reason to change things. It's not as if it's a total desert out there, unfortunately I think we'll need to loose a few more of the better night's before we shake off our apathy & realise if someone doesn't do something our side of the scene will just fade away. Cheers Martyn
  11. Russ I hope you're right & our history says it will happen.I think it might take one of the younger lot to grab the bull by the horns & step up & inject us old farts with some enthusiasm for a last hoorah...........& yes I wanna be there Cheers Martyn
  12. Russ I have to agree with Phil about night's,it pains me to do so because it goes against everything the scene used to be about. My experience of night's trying to cover all bases just don't work as people are so entrenched in what they want to hear they aren't willing to spend time listening to something they don't like/know. I remember Paul playing stuff he was on about at The Wilton a few years back & not knowing one of them but thinking it was a breath of fresh air & it certainly ruffled a few feathers with some & that was at a venue that was renowned for been forward thinking. So I think it's fine idea but I'll be very surprised if a venue of any size doing that lasts any length of time............which is a crying shame I know but that's where the scene is at this moment in time. Cheers Martyn
  13. Is Paul Mason on here?I'd be interested in his thought's after reading this thread.Has he been to any more "do's" since his return, has he any intentions of a follow up in some form etc. Just a thought? Cheers Martyn
  14. That would be great..............but could you imagine how long the thread on here would be for a full series covering our history(& it would still not be right) Cheers Martyn
  15. Generic term, sorry didn't know there was a scooter club of that name..........great name for a club Out of interest what happens when you get to 26 Cheers Martyn
  16. Ian Would have to be a series to fit all that in but I'd certainly have the betamax set for that I'd like to see a programme from the artist point of view when they come over here to perform for us lot? Slightly done with Doris Troy at Cleethorpes on channel 4 way back. Cheers Martyn Martyn
  17. Derek And how many years have you been trying to remember to bring most of these out to play Great set matey. Cheers Martyn
  18. Simon So that's the look you was going for when you wore your kilt..........you can't get anything right Cheers Martyn
  19. Pete Once baggies became mainstream they were dropped by most, baggies were different in there day. That's why for a brief time I wore them but once main street shops started getting them in it was time to move on. Cheers Martyn
  20. Asked one of the young guns why he was wearing them daft clothes & his answer was "because no one my age wears them & it makes me different"..........nuff said for me,that's why we wore them wasn't it? Cheers Martyn
  21. It was a lot better than I expected,in fact parts of it were really good, certainly not perfect but is it possible to make the perfect "northern" programme? We can't agree about the music so we're not going to agree about tele Cheers Martyn
  22. Sooty God!!!!Not another new night starting up...........in Hull Cheers Martyn
  23. Tezza Without a doubt it's down to peoples choice.I wasn't on about what type of music a dj plays or price of the records I was trying to get across the skill it takes to weave a set together to get the place buzzing.I used Arthur Fenn & Bob Hinsley as examples as for me they weave sets together seamlessly going between tempos & genres without it jerking all over the place, not everything they play is to my taste but how it's worked into a set is masterful. The point I was trying to make if some different dj's were given the same records to play which ones would get them in the right order to get the desired effect on the crowd,a skill I don't think all dj's have. Cheers Martyn
