  1. Daz Plenty of fair points & a lot of those things ring true for me but as Paul says no such thing as a "Definitive Film" as everyone's journey is different, things in the film didn't happened to me but I took it as part of the film not a documentary. In the your film you've outlined you wanted I could do the same so from my point of view yours wouldn't be "Definative Film" for me. How would you weave all these relevant threads together that were missed & still make a film that isn't hours long & costs a fortune, how would you deal with disturbers who don't want to show your film. I don't know but I would think the actual filming was probably the easy bit,all the other external things I would have thought is the hard job?? Cheers Martyn
  2. Great point,my take on that is.........it should be played on"Original Format" so if something originally came out on CD I have no problem with it been played on that?I also wouldn't have a problem if someone had a carver done of a CD track(they owned) to play out as not all systems have CD players, same as I've had done with some LP tracks save lugging my LP's about.Must admit not come across anything that is download only yet but I'm sure in the future that will happen so wouldn't have a problem with that either. Cheers Martyn
  3. I think there probably is a little bit of that happening as when adverts have used northern tunes you hear them out more & the price spikes for a little while. But boots have been making some strange prices for ages now so it can't all be laid at the film's door? Cheers Martyn
  4. I wish more people would realise that collecting originals doesn't mean you've got to be a millionaire,in fact there's thousands of great originals out there that will cost you less then a boot.IMO having big hitters aren't a prerequisite for a great spot but a feel for the dancefloor,an imagination & putting the hard yards in to gain the knowledge that will help make you be a better dj are. Cheers Martyn
  5. Can't wait to see John & ask him where is black driving glove is Cheers Martyn
  6. That sounds to implausible people would never believe it Cheers Martyn
  7. Dave That's a very valid point, others have also pointed out other important parts of the experience were not covered or glossed over. But thinking about it doing a film to cover all those very complex intertwined threads that make up the nighter scene of that time along with financial & length of film constraints I think is nigh on impossible. That's why I think there could easily be another film to cover some of those things that were missed in the first one..........I mean it was left open perfectly for him to go to the US record hunting? Cheers Martyn
  8. Talking to my mates wife who didn't go to Wigan & she only got into northern when she married her husband, found the second half of the film a little harrowing,I think the reality of what went on was a bit of a shock to her.She wasn't criticizing the film I just think the subject matter & how graphic it was took her by surprise & not a very nice surprise at that,I think her naivety has been dented. Cheers Martyn
  9. Byrney I keep banging on to my mates that some of those old boys who used to frighten you to death with just a look should come out of retirement & attend a few of these sanitised, squeaky clean, posh night's where all the expensive designer clothes,jewellery,£200 handbags are on show. They wouldn't believe what they were seeing & make a fortune in double quick time,I think that would cull a few of those who think it was a "nice" scene Cheers Martyn
  10. Swifty/Carl As I've said hundreds of times most would be happy to do away with dj's & have a jukebox in the corner with Goldmine CD's on so they could choose there favourite 10 times a night. I'm happy with my little rooms with 50/60 of us admiring dj's plying there trade & showing off there latest tune they are raving about........rare or not it doesn't matter it's about the passion of the guy/girl behind the decks. Cheers Martyn
  11. Pete I'd love them to come on & say what they didn't like about it? Can't you relay there thought's thereby protecting them from abuse? Cheers Martyn
  12. Swifty You've spelt it wrong in your case there's no "S" in the middle of it Cheers Martyn
  13. Dean And that is the exactly the reason I'm not on FB,I like sharing my elitist thoughts with other superior minded people........so why I'm on here I'll never know Cheers Martyn
  14. Might be loads of night's listed but for me personally 95%+ aren't the type of night I'm looking for so my choice is getting smaller & I'm having to travel further more often. It's no drama as I find myself eking out some interesting night's I might have missed. Cheers Martyn
  15. Winnie Some of the shit I've talked/heard at nighters it might as well have been in Chinese the sense it made Cheers Martyn
  16. I was out last night with a few of my mates who I went to Wigan with & we'd all seen the film,to a man all thought it was more or less spot on for what we'd experienced in our Wigan days. There was plenty of old names thrown up from the past to fit the various characters in the film & surprise, surprise there was more nutters names then any others Don't know about you lot but a week on from seeing the film I've been feeling really nostalgic for the old days & it's certainly had me think about some of my old mates I never see since those days, also about some of the antics we used to get up to.......thanks Elaine & Co for bringing back all these memories even if some of em are a bit scary Cheers Martyn
  17. I've always been of the understanding that most of the moves were already there before the Kung Fu craze came along but those who got involved in it were able to enhance there moves on the floor due to the Kung Fu training & take them to a higher level.I've never believed it was the origins of the moves themselves, always thought they evolved from what was said in the original post? Just as I've had to use my rugby training on occasions with the odd hand off when some Whirling Dervisher has bee hurtling towards me Martyn
  18. Pete You're making it too easy, you've got me thinking now Cheers Martyn
  19. Kev East Coast Connection.........Part 2 Stormy is a bit good Cheers Martyn
  20. Callum Great set matey,James Lynn Marsh quickly becoming one of my fave tunes Cheers Martyn
  21. Just wondering. From what I can gather from what's been said on here a lot of the dance scenes shot have been cut? So with the film been a success (I assuming with it showing in 100+ cinemas that would class as a success) would it be possible to write a story line that is less dark & more dance/records/travelling/friendship based story & utilize all that footage & explore parts of the scene not focussed on in the film...........Northern Soul II....the happy days I have no knowledge of if this would be possible or even if all concerned would want to?? Just a thought? Cheers Martyn
  22. Well that was a surprise.........when did going to the cinemas become like that, small 50 seat screens, really comfortable chairs that just scream go to sleep & with loads of leg room.Even had a couple beers while watching the film.Shows you how long it's been since I went to the "pictures" Enjoyed the film, thought the descent into the darker side & intensity of emotions are just as I remember it.Yes you could be a little picky but why as on the whole it got most things about right..........did I spy a hand full of rather strange shaped Filon or was that just wishful thinking Having read the book & thought it slightly over did the drugs I was expecting it to be over done in the film but thought it was about right? The only slight problem I can see is for those who didn't go to Wigan,my wife didn't relate to some of the more subtle Wigan references that we all take for granted?Again I'm been picky. So a big thumbs up this end Cheers Martyn
  23. Now that's a film I want to see......... WIGAN CASINO the musical Featuring Michael Crawford as Russ Winstanley Michael Ball as Richard Searling & Elaine Page as Mrs Wood Cheers Martyn PS I need to stop drinking on a Sunday afternoon
