  1. Nige They certainly won't be writing about The Wilton in years to come as it never even gets a mention on threads like this...........strange that as it's 19th anniversary in a couple of week? Take care. Cheers Martyn
  2. Numbers up with a mix of new & old faces, hope this continues. Slight tweaking to the format of the night helped make for a varied night of quality music Andy Hudson............ 3. Morning all.Had a great night at York Soul Club last night & great to see numbers up with plenty of new faces in,hopefully they liked what they heard as much as I did.The Monzas-You Know You Turn Me On Moon was a newie that hit the spot for me straight away,so was entered into volume 17 of the ever growing wants list. One from me today that seems to be in a lot of peoples collections but can't say I've ever heard it out???Can't see why not as it seems to tick all the boxes for me,hopefully someone will tell me it was massive way back??? Jimmy Earl-Strategy Columbia Cheers Martyn PS Anyone ever seen an issue of this, only ever seen demo's?
  4. That's the reason I bought my Contemplations, the inst just blows me away. Cheers Martyn
  5. Dave Bloody hell..........Bobby Diamond...........Wigan I think for me,when I had hair Cheers Martyn
  6. I will be hearing one of my "tunes of the moment" tonight...........Hector Rivera-I Want A Chance For Romance Barry, one of the best bits of Latin around at the moment imo.Quite a complicated dancer with lots of tempo changes & stops & starts but once you get to know it it's an awesome dancer & never fails to get me up.As I'm so excited I thought I'd start today off with a bit of soulful Latin that's been around awhile but still fills the floor, played this out the other week at Driving Beat to lots of whoops & applauses after it finished. Mongo Santamaria-We Got Latin Soul Columbia Cheers Martyn
  7. First time I heard this it was played by Mace at Driving Beat & sounded awesome, one of my fave tunes at the moment. Other Latin tunes that do it for me are....... David Coleman-Drown My Heart Jack Costanza-Don't Squeeze The Peaches Manny Corchando-Pow Wow Harvey Averne-The Word Lots more that don't come to mind at the moment. Cheers Martyn
  8. It's weekend so a bit of up-tempo R n B to get the feet moving.York Soul Club for me tomorrow, looking forward to a top night of quality tunes. Grover Mitchell-That's A Good Idea Vee Jay Cheers Martyn
  9. Don I've told you I've not got you're sort of money & if I had it would all be spent on "Colliers Knobs" by you know who???????? Cheers Martyn
  10. Andy Pearlean's a quality oldie you don't hear enough imo. Cheers Martyn
  11. Guaranteed floorfiller from me today. Garland Green-Angel Baby Uni Cheers Martyn
  12. This also came out on Uptight which I think is the local label before Verve, this is what I've got it on.Classy bit of northern imo hits all the right buttons for me. Pal Rakes & The Prophets-Can't Deny The Hurt Uptight Cheers Martyn
  13. Smooth & silky piece of soul music from me today, from one the great female soul voices. Jean Wells-What Have I Got To Lose Calla Cheers Martyn
  14. Mark Who's a lucky boy then..........I'm jealous Cheers Martyn
  15. Russ New to me this one, sounds really good on first plays.Any more info please,LP only, price etc. Cheers Martyn
  16. Russ Remember when "Sweet Memories" was one of my fave tunes but this is even better I think, think it's probably a better dancing pace? Cheers Martyn
  17. Was panicking that it got 40 odd posts before Bob Hinsley was mentioned,a master at reading the floor/venue and others up there with him for that art are Arthur Fenn & Roger Banks. Not what they play is always to my liking but for reading an event & weaving a set together with imagination these three usually do the job better then most? Could do a massive list of people who I will travel to hear but they don't fit the brief of this thread. Cheers Martyn
  18. Mark Sorry if you had put it up but well worth another play I think,I was just all giddy with Butch playing it I've only got it on a Mercury Demo LP.........with a few of her other good tracks. The 45 has shot up in price over the past few years & not seen one for less then £150..........that will double if Butch plays it regularly? Cheers Martyn
  19. Stafford biggie from me today. Gordon Keith-Look Ahead Calumet Cheers Martyn
  20. Been posted on this thread before I think but no complaints by me as I love it,one of there best imo & that's saying something..........so underplayed. Cheers Martyn
  21. Still in recovery mode from Lifeline, not been for awhile but won't be leaving it that long again as it was brilliant.Music & atmosphere were spot on just like a nighter should be.Record of the night for me was Ady's Ben E King-Getting To Me.........forgotten how good it sounds at a venue. So my offering today was one that got played (by Butch I think?) last night. Dee Dee Warwick-Worth Every Tear I Cry Mercury Cheers Martyn
  22. Steve Come along then pray tell................ Cheers Martyn
  23. If that's true there's only a couple of lads who it could be...........unfortunately I'm not one of them Cheers Martyn
  24. For some reason there was a rumour at the time of sale it was bought by someone in Hull for £27,000???Never been able to establish by who or the truth of that bit of info? Cheers Martyn.......who doesn't own Frank W
  25. Todays entry is from one of our favourite ladies, one of her lesser played tunes which is a pity as I love it. Maxine Brown-One Step At A Time Wand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xl14czF3SA Lifeline for me tonight,so might bump into one or two of you. Cheers Martyn
