  7. This is exactly the type of record that stopped me attending the mecca and concentrating on Wigan. It could easiy be the 3 degrees on totp in the late 70s.

  12. Betty Everett, "crowded " is massive in our loft at the minute. The wife has just found it. Being a non soulie and 13 years younger than me we could be making inroads into converting her.

  14. Our love will grow. The Showmen. Never Fails.
  15. Hi. Just been watchin a crappy film on ch 4."When eight bells toll". After the film had ground to a halt there was an advertisment for ch4+1.The background music was a catchy instrumental that I kinda liked. Just wondered if anyone knows what it is.
  16. Sod the soul police. I want one now.. that inst middle bit just does it for me.What a sound. Carry on.
  17. Can somebody enlighten me as to who or what the "Soul Police" means or stands for?
  18. Only been a member for short while,so this may have been covered elswhere. I was just wondering, all you soulies do you still get the buzz when you find a disc thats a gem/rarity. And have you any tales to tell when you were younger and tunes could be found in the States and what are they. Eg. I once heard that Richard Searling once found a 70 box of Duke Browners when it was in-demand. what a lift that was. Anymore for anymore.
  19. I cant believe ive read thru all this thread. Cease forthwith. Silly, Silly, Silly.
  20. There is some young guys who frequent my local boozers. In one of the pubs there is a state of the art jukebox, that you can download tunes on. Anyway one night during the rainy summer they come outside ,turn the jukebox on the speakers outside, and proceed to "jump". I was blown away.(id had a few scoops) Then I listened to the tune they were leaping to. I thought it was brilliant.( dont forget the scoops). I asked them what it was and they say. GO-TEENS." ROCKET BOTTLE"." Its a bit soulish with dance stuff "says one of them." We love it." Anyway its now in my head so much Ive got it on cd to play when im pissed and stoned. Give it a whizz and listen to it all the way thru. And they say the youths of today are bad. After all what were we like?! PS. I cant post a sound file up but Im sure you guys can find it on itunes. My missus did.
  21. I once worked with a guy who thought Robert Plant was god. He used to try rip the piss out of me for being into soul. I used to tell him that Levi Stubbs was the greatest singer ever. He wouldnt have it until I forced him to listen to the Tops one night when we were working nights. Now hes converted into soul music. I cant believe him, he wants all the soul I can ply him with!!!! That was all thru Levi. I salute you Mr Levi Stubbs, I am your biggest fan.
  22. I was walking thru a local small town near Blackburn called Great Harwood to catch a bus home to Blackburn from my then girlfriends in 1975. Saw a small junk shop with records in a box in the window. Junk shops where like a magnet to me in those days. Went in started rooting thru the discs. There was about 100ish. Saw a disc I thought I had seen in some magazine or list or somewhere. There were actually 3 of them all next to each other. You just knew they were mint ,never seen the light of day, paper all moulded around them. Bought them all at 10p apiece. On the bus all the way home thinking to myself have I really seen/heard of these? Got home played them. Got to admit I was into stompers at that time, Velvet Satins and the like. Thought the tune was a crock. Went to a local club the Friday night after, Spinning Jenny in Accrington. A mate of mine who went onto greater things went ga-ga when I told him. So I sold him and another 2 mates the copies. The disc in question was Walk With A winner, Gene mcDanials. The mate was Guy Hennigan. He was just destined to be a top DJ. Needless to say I love it to bits now. If you are out there Guy,its Ste Tomlinson (Tommy) from Blackburn . Keep On.
  23. Just been listening to an old Wigan tape that I recorded on my trusty old battery recorder around about 75/76. I think. ( Embers, Paul Sindab, Danny Monday to name but a few) Anyway mentioned a few times during the playback is the name Denise Orrell. Apparently her mum was at the front door and she wanted to see her. But obviously Denise didnt want to see her, cos R.Searling was having trouble locating her. Ive often wondered what the outcome could have been. Anybody any clues.
  24. Blanche Carter. Halos are for angels. Utter crap. Remember Mr Searling playing it about 5 times a night circa 1975ish at Wigan. Remember thinking what the hell is this shite? Still do.
  25. One of my all time favs. 4.00am, Casino, Searling spin, The Immortal, Joe Matthews and his superb offering IMO. Aint Nothing You Can Do. Just couldnt get my feet going in time to the damn thing, and boy did I try. Nowadays I can make a decent attempt sat in the armchair, but back then no way. Could have been due to illegal substances of course. I am writing this now and I can smell the Casino. Wonderful . Just wonderful.
