  1. I played it on one the sunday morning soul shows for Solar radio a couple of years ago now, the switch board lit up like a xmas tree with folks wanting to know what it was before I anounced it, one very well known collector asked me to give him a few miutes so he could try and locate one on the net. A well respected tune in many circles. Gouch
  2. Probably the best 45 to come up for sale on here in months, amazed it hasnt been snapped up, top top tune. Gouch
  3. Troop; This is priceless, made my day. Gouch
  4. Sid, I was waiting for someone to mention the other side, regular spin in the Jim Wray Lounge at Soul Essence for years now, for me its the main reason to own this 45. Simply wonderful. Gouch
  5. Have to agree Gary, I have a small very select group Iv dealt with in the states for a great many years now, I emailed all of them explaining how our Customs/Post Office were ripping us off to help pay for the deficit we have and asked them all for help, almost all of them responded in a positive manner so much so that I very rarely even look at home based suppliers now. I also sent them them details of a couple of buyers who were simply snapping tunes up to put them on there own site over here with a grossly inflated price taking the piss out of all of us. Like you Im buying more than ever, and my relationship with my suppliers has really helped me, just need the time to play them. For over 45 years Iv been buying this music and I can honestly only name one supplier who has consistently over the years actually put my interests into the equation when dealing with him. How sad is that? Gouch
  6. Both sides are superb, cheers. Dave.

  9. Thats where I first heard as a new release and got it off Pep the week later, stunning other side too. Gouch
  10. I could have written this myself mate, as usual bang on. Gouch
  11. I picked this album up some 25 years ago now from Manship, I cant believe "Get hep to love" has been covered up, this was a huge track at various clubs 20+ years ago i.e the Munster Arms Birmingham, Canal Tavern Thorne, The Derby Big City Soul Nights, it also saw action at Chris Anderton's Bretby nights, Pitches in Rotherham and it has had repeated spins over the years at Soul Essence. It is a cracking tune though, several months ago I played an album only early hour spot at Snooks Northern night in Raunds and dropped it to a very healthy response. Gouch
  12. This is my playlist for 'Len's Den last hour 12:15-0115, should have gone home at 1 but the dancers wouldnt let me! Eunice Collins "At the motel Ted Taylor "I want to be a part of you" Nate Evans "Main squeeze" Enchanted Five "Darling I need you now" Bernie Williams "Baby I want to thank you" Clay Brown "Why you wanna change" Soul Serenaders "Gotta hold onto my baby" Flint Emeralds "Just like a baby" Mark IV "Signs of a dying love" Freddie South "Set me free" Bill Murphy "Aint no big thing" James Brown "Wake up and live" Richard Caiton "I see love girl in your eyes" Frankie Newsome "Taunting Love" Villlage Choir "Sweet hot lips" Rance Allen Group "I know a man" Cornelious Brothers & Sister Rose "Never gonna leave you alone" Wilson Love "Funny Money" Les Watson "Soul man blues" Finished off with a a personal request, Lenny gave me The Dreamteam to play.
  13. Contact Andy Dyson as I traded a minter with him at Soul Essence last weekend, its doubtful he's off loaded it, it still is hugely under the radar of most folks. Gouch
  14. Troop; You all need to get a listen to Charles Bradley, another real modern day soul man, his new album which is due out in April is the finest soul album to surface in years. Gouch
  15. Kimbo, for us it really is about the music, and meeting up with good friends, for some people the music allows them to have there five minutes of fame, we all know who these people are, locally thankfully its only the odd one or two. See you in the Den. Gouch
  16. Hi Jem; We dont normally get these licensing issues here in Northants and with your existing doo at this venue not being affected we can only assume that it was sabotaged by someone raising some kind of objection with the licensing committee. Funny, perhaps Im odd, but Iv always thought it was about the music not the ego of a wannabee!!!! As you say Len, we still have the soul nights. Gouch
  17. Dont bother ringing as I wont answer, its easy just stand there with your hands in your pockets with a well practised "I dont give a f*ck" face on and be ready with your stock answer "No I dont have any Northern Soul records with me, Im a soul music jock" thanks for coming, and then put your next little treasure on.
  18. Great thread this, if as a DJ you have the ability to think for yourself and not just simply want to play the same sounds as all the alleged premier league jocks then you will experience the tumbleweed effect occasionally. Last Saturday I played Betty Fikes & The Passions "Prove it to me" on Southbound to a totally empty floor, if you have any claims about being interested in soul music you couldnt help but be over whelmed by such a soulful piece of dance music, but to pay at the door of a Northern Soul night and not dance to this is totally bewildering. Actually I can forgive Len as his little legs wouldnt move that fast anyway Soul On Gouch
  19. Troop; My playlist at this excellent night is as follows, dont think iits in the order of play but pretty close to it. 20. Hi Bob; One of the biggest mistakes I made was letting my Bluesteam go, its been over 20 years now and Iv never managed to replace it, good luck mate. Gouch
  21. He wont when he plays the other side, Clifton Dyson in soul ballad heaven. Gouch
  22. Hello mate; This surfaced last year on E-Music and was picked up by Mark Merry and played on his excellent Soul Sermon radio shows, its also been played by Mick O'Donell on his excellent Soul Discovery Soul Show.I jumped on it and had a carver cut as its an MP3 only. I played at the Wilton Alniter, the Soul Essence Weekender in Yarmouth and at the Soul4Real Weekender in Bilbao and a variety of other smaller doos, all to great response. Nearly a year later it has landed at iTunes, I tried in vane to contact the guy and even raised this track and the problems I was having with Andy Davis with the intention of putting it out on a 45. Iv written about it and attempted to tell every one about this superb track. Recently I was playing it at the Rushden Soul in the Bowl doo, Lens Den, and I was approached by 2 guys who said that Soul Sam is playing it covered up and that they had been trying to find it. Tell the world about this fabulous track, its nearly 2 years old and should be an anthem already. Soul On Gouch
  23. Mel Britt "She'll come running back" Mandrill "To Late" Natural Four "I thought you were mine" (Boola Boola mix) For as long as I can remember these 3 have always captured my attention and got me on the floor, from the moment the album arrived I regarded Mandrill as one the finest 70's soul tunes ever recorded, and to this day that view hasnt changed. Gouch
  24. Troop; Really looking forward to this, four of us coming up/ Gouch
