I was too young for those early days but anybody who could turn up and break records of that calibre and in that quantity has my full respect. I hope life gets a little easier for you in the future Tony.
Sincere best wishes.
Hello mate.
Think I've got one somewhere. Is it a pale blue label? It might take me a while to find it. Before I start what price would you pay?
Best wishes
Dave
I used to go to Florida on holiday (oops vacation), regularly a few years ago. I used to find some great stuff around Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach.
I am still in touch with a guy called Kelly and there is a guy in Palm Beach called Steve. Goes under the name of "Always Buying".
Kelly has been ill recently but I can always send you his email and he would hook you up with Steve.
Kelly had lots of soul stuff but I cannot be sure if he is still active.
Hope this helps
Dave
Talking of his breakfast show. I was stunned a few months ago when climbing back into the van I was in time for the second verse of Sandy Waddy "Everything is Everything".
Someone had picked it for Moira Stewarts Golden Oldie at 7.30. Did anybody else hear this?
I can remember, as can older Soul Sourcers, there used to be a Saturday tea time Soul show on Radio One. Hosted by Dave Symons as I remember.
Anyway, this week young Pete Waterman was a guest on the show as he was a fairly well known dj around the midlands. I can recall him playing the O'Jays "Working on your case" and Dave Symons commenting that PW was doing a tribal war dance around the studio.
My point being that years ago he was no different from any of us. So the guys done well for himself financially but at least he came from the same musical background as we all did!
And on the way to making a fortune perhaps he did sacrifice his musical credibility. (To Soul fans anyway). But he would'nt have done so well having Rick Astley cover Northern favourites would he?
I like the guy.
Just to state the obvious. Is there a greater feelgood record then "Out on the floor"? One of the first records most of us will have heard in our early days on the scene.
A very talented musician as well as a provider of great mempries.
God bless you Dobie.
Northernwise for me it has to be Jodi Mathis, can that girl wail!! Herman Lewis and Eddie Whitehead right up there as well.
So many others but I could never leave out The Dramatics "Hey you get off my mountain".
No mate. It's not just you. Unless I've had a few beers and want to hear my personal faves, I love looking through and playing other peoples records. Without fail you will always hear a few great records you did'nt know.
If its a session when there's beer present then it has to be feelgood, singalong, handclapping, upset the neighbours kind of records. That means oldies like Lee David, Volcanos anything on Arctic, Casanova Two Silhouettes............
John Manship auctioned my copy (lovely condition) and got about £850 for it. About two years ago. Steve Jeffries bought it and then almost doubles the price on his website!
I'd say £8-900 was about right.
I have an album by the Love People on Guinness, which I believe is a very tough album anyway. In the middle of the ballads and the sweet soul is a storming version of "Call on Me". Took me by total surprise when I first played the album. Maybe it could even be the Presentations under a different name.
Must dig the album out but I cannot find it at the moment.
Up for grabs is this rarely seen, lovely condition old school style Northern dancer.
Probably mint minus but lets call it ex+. Labels are spotless. The other sides sounds pretty good too!
£850 ovno. Plus postage.
Any payment form is ok but please allow time for a cheque to clear.
PM me or dgreet211@btinternet.com
Cheers, Dave
Remember getting nicked for drink driving in cannock, on the way up. Was only bump starting the bloody thing. We were kept in tthe nick till about eleven at night then Alison H's dad drove up from Cheltenham to get us. He was'nt too pleased.
First heard Richard play Al Williams at Cats Whiskers. I'm sure it was covered up as The masqueraders. Can anyone confirm?
Used to be a long journey from Southampton in a minibus in those days, but worth every mile. Six hour trip then through Newark etc. Not the miles of motorway you have now.
Great memories of the Pier vibrating.
For the information of Rick Scott.
An old buddy of yours, Paul Rowan, lives about two miles from me in Reading.
Thanks for some of the best nights of my life Mary.
