  8. The thing that strikes me about this thread is that it's a typical roberts thread. Post something controversial people debate/argue over & over & all the time the instigator throws another little morsel into the mix & so it goes on & on & all that happens is that the money making machine in Stoke gets more publicity. End of the day just leave 'em to it
  9. Nothing wrong with a bit of Elvis, wouldn't want to hear it at a soul nite tho' Has he got soul? Listen to Kens clip of "Only the Strong survive" & then listen to Jerry Butlers version for the real deal

  13. Good post Rob you coming to london this year ? Any Dates
  14. Totally agree Dave, we are "celebrating" quality music that was never appreciated/or heard beyond a local level (if then!) at the time. As for example the Isleys This old heart of mine, it's fantastic & one of my all time favourite records, but definately don't want to hear it out tho'. I can play it at home, when I go out I want to hear things that I haven't got at home As for succesful promoters, for me it's how they go about things. They could run the biggest & best soul night/allnighter in the world but if they're obnoxious individuals who tried to use every post on any subject as a vehicle to promote this imaginary club I don't think I'd feel like helping to line their pockets. If they advertised their club in the events forum & didn't try ramming it down peoples throats who could possibly have a problem with that? Whether their night was to your taste or not would be immaterial, you'd either attend or not, support or ignore
  15. Hmm if I thought it had joined the 110 list Yann i'd have replied at 2.36
  16. Got a Mint minus copy Andy Pm'd you mate
  17. Redditch !!!! Isn't that where Steve Brookstein "retired to" ?
  18. I don't know anthing John just heard last bit of a conversation that seemed to suggest she was part of the Steve Brookstein "family" Could of been a joke ? Just thought I'd throw it up & see if there were any rumours flying around ?
  19. Is there any doubt over whether this is a genuine 60s recording ?
  20. Ha ha sorry Ken I wasn't having a go at you at all mate I was grateful that you had posted Pet to give me the chance to hear it , but personally i thought it bloody awful hence the ignorance is bliss comment. The only reason I said i wouldn't post anymore was, all that I really had to say was I didn't wanna hear all of this sort of stuff out & I couldn't see the discussion going any further than 2 sides saying my opinion is the right one ........... (when I knew I was right ) I'm surprised you took me seriously ....Now about these des oconner records that i hear you've been covering up atb dave
  21. Thanks Ken Definately a case of ignorance was absolutely blissful Probably best if I don't post anymore
  22. My lack of knowledge of 60s pop has let me down again
  23. PS Is it any more of a great Northern Soul record than Petula Clark Down Town ?
