Originally from their Bell LP "Back on top", the same LP was then re-released by Bell as "The O'Jays" in circa 69/70. Then issued again in about 74 on MFP, and 76 on Kory. Looks like the tracks owners were trying to cash in the O'Jays popularity. Superb album in my opinion, although the dubbed on "live" noises is a little off-putting. "Just another guy" was LP only as far as I am aware. The original studio version (undubbed) didn't see the light until the aforementioned Sundazed CD "I'll be sweeter tomorrow, the Bell sessions" in about '02. The song was co-wriiten & produced by sweet soul legend George Kerr. PS. I swear we've had this question before btw.

A if its a cheapie. B if not, C on the rare occassions I have a bit of spare £.

Yes, you can edit the track very easily, there are lots of programs out there to do that. No, you can't "reverse" a compressed file, & if you convert it to WMA for instance, then the sound quality will diminish still further. Anything from 320kbps upwards is normally considered high quality. 192kbps is acceptable, anything below this and the sound quality is audilbly poor. Why would anyone get a carver done anyway? Surely you are then getting an illegal copy made to then play it in a format that isn't original, a double whammy.

Not sure where I should be posting this, but this section seems the most appropriate, feel free to move it to wherever it should be mods. As usual, here are 2 mixes of snippets of my top 100 favourite tunes from the last year. One focusing on the more downtempo stuff, the other mainly picking the pace up a bit. No garage or jazz tunes in this list ("On my way to Harlem would definitely be in my top 10 of the year), and no more than 1 tune from any artist in any 1 mix. Link is to directly playable files, but they are also downloadable and both will fit on an 80min CD if you want to burn it, to listen in the car etc. All tracks are readily available to buy on t'internet. Yes, the Guiness label was a tax scam job (mafia connections too I recall hearing!). I've got a few on this label; Formula 1 "Hold on" (couple of nice tracks, especially "Love, love, love" going rate about £100) Ben E.King "Rebirth" (rehash of some of his earlier releases - very poor) £20 Love People "Sing it again" (awesome sweet soul) £120 Newban & Newban 2 (group that went on to become Atlantic Starr, both LPs are brilliant, at least 1 has been re-issued) £200 & £300 Vilo Perry "Standing room only" (1 tracker, fantastic version of "Uptown lady") £75 Anyone else care to enlighten us on what any other Guinness LPs are like? In the same vein, I think the TSG label was another tax scam one. I've only got 2 LPs on that one by; 1619 Bad Ass band (great name lol), & a group called Spice.

Don't you read my posts? (no of course you don't ) Flip posted above (12" version)
-
I prefer the mellow flip. Very hard on a 12". NIce LP,
-
Ortofon's work perfectly with Technics for me, treemndous sound. Ensure you clean your records though, they don't respond too kindly to dirt.
-
I;m loving "Still Can't Get You Out Of My Heart", and it went down well when played out at the weekend, not feeling the other tunes on the LP though.
-
The funk guys want it for the flip (the better side for rme too), even so that's far too steep.

Moses Dillard And Tex-Town Revue Band
phillyDaveG replied to Windlesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
I've got an LP from Moses Dillard & the Tex-Town Display from '69 on Tex Town records. Superb stuff, and with the lead vocals of a young Peabo Bryson of course; Bryson stayed with them for a few years and can be heard on the excellent "I Promise To Love You" on Shout. -
I always thank the previous DJ, as has been said. I also ask him what is he thinking of finishing his set on, so I can pick out a tune that isn't a massive change in style (going from soulful garage to a 6ts beat ballad doesn't lend itself to a smooth changeover lol). Also, I wouldn't start without anything too obscure, If the floor is dead, than I'd kick off with a classic to try to get some feet moving. P.S. I'm not really a DJ though!

Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingness' First Finale
phillyDaveG replied to Britmusicsoulfan's topic in Look At Your Box
I actually saw this last night, but assumed it was a wind up, evidently not!. The lyrics on "Heaven is..." are inspired, and "Please don't go" is one I often play out, top tune. -

phillyDaveG replied to Dean Rudland's topic in Front Page News & Articles
Agreed, total 1 off genius. Love all his LPs (bar his last), with "Pieces of a man" right up there with Marvin's "What's goin on" for me. -
Alex Brown - In Search Of Love - Sundi - Lp - 1977
phillyDaveG replied to The Tempest's topic in Look At Your Box
Mad price. Not much of an LP in my opinion, apart from the obvious. -
Pretty sure it's Harrison Crump "Love insurance" (2003 Dust Traxx 12"). That was the original mix.
-
A large % of my recent ebay sales have gone back to the USA, Other countries with multiple purchases are the usual suspects; UK, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, & Japan. Sold quite a few 8ts bits to Latvia and Estonia too!

Teddy Pendergrass-You Can't Hide From Yourself
phillyDaveG replied to Kev John's topic in Look At Your Box
I can confirm it never saw a 7" or 12" release in the USA. -
Often in my play box. I agree "Tell me.." is much better than the flip.
-
Absolutely Kev. I've got more LPs by JB than any other artist. Some of the most soulful stuff in my collection too.
-
Bootlegging you mean.
-
Sounds like the Apollo version; "LIVE AT THE APOLLO VOLUME II" (1968 KING - 2 LP) Best tracks - "Think"/"That's life"/"Let yourself go-There was a time-I feel all right"/"Cold sweat"/"It may be the last time"/"Bring it up"/"It's a man's, man's, man's world"/"I lost someone" I'd have to dig it out to be sure though.

Richie Cole/eddie Jefferson - Ny Afternoon - 45 - 7" Release
phillyDaveG replied to Sunnysoul's topic in Record Wants
No 45 that I am aware. The original instrumental version is from Richie's LP of the same name (77 Muse), the vocal version is from "Keeper of the flame" (79 Muse) -
IKE NOBLE "FRESH START" (circa 1981 CONNOWIL LP) (Prod. Ike Noble, Jimmie J.Williams, & Howard Collins) Best tracks - Another star"/"Your love"/"I promise you"/"Love to be loved"/"I'm gonna miss your love"/"I'll love only you" Superb LP, but will set you back about £250

How about this monster; and even better;
