  1. Likewise - Love LPs, hate the track. Cover looks cool though!
  2. I always add a freebie or two. The way I see it, if it's worth £10 or less it's too much hassle selling singly, so give it to someone who likes soul, and also keeps the customer happy.
  3. About £50 for the LP (£20 for the 45 of "All my lovin") PS Quality LP
  4. Popsike, whilst an excellent site, it does have many limitations. Firstly it only deals with Ebay. Secondly, it doesn't give a true reflection of the average price. This is because if an item sells for less than $50 it isn't listed. As an example - Seeing an item on Popsike has sold for $73, $82, $110, $55 say, doesn't mean it should fetch $80 on average. It may be that it sold 10 times on Ebay for the $73, $82, $110, & $55 shown + $5, $40, $21, $8, $12, & $30. Giving a truer average of $43.
  5. I've got that LP. Some very nice moments on it. SPICE "LET THERE BE SPICE" (1976 T.S.G. LP) Best tracks - "I'm so glad to say"/"The last time"/"You've got me girl"/"Don't fight it"/"Fool in love"
  6. MADAGASCAR "SPIRIT OF THE STREET" (1981 ARISTA LP) (Prod. John Barnes) Bets tracks -"Rainbow"/"Playin' with fire"
  7. Cissy's version of "Nothing can stop me" had me in bits. Plus any Donny Hathaway or Teena Marie ballad.
  8. Well clearly don't have the same taste as me, since my taste is for soul, whether it be from 1960 or 2010. ..please continue peeps, it's all very entertaining
  9. Dells on "Bring back the love of yesterday" Bill Withers on "Lovely day" & Teena Marie on "Casanova brown" spring to mind
  10. Loads of rare LPs out there. It's a bit like saying what 45s go for a lot of money. Dave T said "There is the Jobete LP 'Yesterday, Today & Forever' That sells all day long at $800-$1000" Maybe it used to Dave, but the average selling price for that in the last 10 years has been less than £200. Anyway, here are just a few of the rarer LPs that I have on my dusty shelves; Tal Armstrong "Tallest man in love" (Love) Gloria Barnes "Uptown" (Maple) Beginning Of The End "Same" (Alston) Conrad Benjamin "Saturn" (Nebula) The Brief Encounter "Introducing..." (Seventy 7) James Brown "Please, -please, please" (King) Burton Inc. "Love will make you pay $$$" (Charli Barbara) Cumulo Nimbus "Forty seven times it's own weight" (Fable) Fillmotions "Young girls in motion" (Young Girl) Tony Fox "The beginning" (Blaster) Penny Goodwin "Portrait of a Gemini" (Sidney) Eramus Hall "Your love is my desire" (Westbound) Ron Henderson & Choice Of Colour "Soul junction" (Chelsea) Love People "Sing it again" (Guinness) Martha & The Vandellas "Come & get these memories" (Gordy) Maxx Traxx "Same" (Pulse) Miracles "Cookin' with the Miracles" (Tamla) Mighty Ryeders "Help us spread the message" (Sun-Glo) Newban "Newban" & "Newban 2" (Guinness) New Sounds "Having you around" (Turbo) Positive Change "same" (Fortress) Pulse "Same" (Olde World) Rayfield Reid & The Magnificents"Treat you right" (Ken-Tone) Rivage "Sittin' on it" (Tempus) Sons & Daughters Of Lite "Let the sun shine in" (Sunlite) Space Ark "same" (Color World) Spice "Let there be Spice" (TSG) Spread Love "same" (Sunstar) Steam Heat "Austin funk" (Fable) Stone Free "Stone Free feat. Cecil Lyde" (Aladdin) Superior Elevation "Get it, don't stop" (Black Satin) Touch Of Class "Love means everything" (Stack o Hits) Bobby Thurston "Sweetest piece of the pie" (Mainstream) Ultimates "same" (Graham Int.) Charles Williams "Love is a very special thing" (EMI Finland)
  11. I've got the Reason Why Roger. Yes, it's a 45 (Polydor), and silly money. Great minds and all that, because the Toast track caught my ear too, loved it. PS. I'll start working on mine next week, and hopefully have them in the post within 10 days or so.
  12. Quite the opposite I think. He nurtures young talent, he's a top class producer and arranger both for himself and on many other artists work, and has worked with the very best. Not quite sure where you are coming from on the Michael Henderson thing. Michael is indeed talented, but I'm not sure what whole LP you could be claiming that he wrote? He had 2 songs on "You are my starship" and just 1 on "Saturday Night Special". Sure, Mr.C wouldn't be anywhere near as well regarded without the vocalists that have worked with him, but his ability to choose them and provide the perfect setting is phenomenal. Here's a partial list off the top of my head of some vocalists he has used; Jean Carn, Phylllis Hyman, Angela Bofill, Eleanore Mills, Al Johnson, Michael Henderson, Spencer Harrison, Leon Ware, Peabo Bryson, James Robinson, Glenn Jones, Juanita Dailey, Howard Hewett, Phillip Mitchell, Gabrielle Goodman, Christopher Williams, Adaritha, Denise Stewart, Beau Williams What a line up.
  13. Norman Connors is soul music's Art Blakey. The amount of superstars that he has had on his records (many before they were discovered is mind boggling). NC can do no wrong in my eyes. "This is your life" LP is brilliant, but for me there is one track on it that stands out as one of the greatest soul ballads ever - "Listen" featuring former lead singer with Change - James "Crab" Robinson, that last note makes me want to weep.
  14. No, not another ovo/CD thread. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Stop it now!
  15. If not DJM. we'll do a 2 man disc swap ok?
  16. Missed this thread, can I be 1st reserve?
  17. Quite and yes! About £120+ for a minty one.
  18. Ahh , you can't beat a classic SS thread From the "advanced" Northern dance site; Quote "Originally the Northern Soul was high energy dance with a fusion of Martial arts and street dance" I knew I hadn't studied the ancient art of ecky thump for nothing Quote "the softer floaty Northern Soul style is more popular today commiserate with age of the dancers" You poor old sods!
  19. One of the few great records where the 12" version knocks the 7" into a cocked hat
  20. This Tampa trio featuring Brenda Hillard, Albert Bailey, and Zulema Cusseaux(ex-Lovells from the 60's) began recording for Maxwell in 1970, produced by Van McCoy. 'So Much Love' reached 14 on the R&B charts for Maxwell. Zulema left the group after the "Heavy Love" album, some sources say 1971 but it may have been in '72. Her first solo album was issued on Sussex while the label was still issuing FHC singles which had been recorded before she left. Brenda Hilliard and Albert Bailey continued as a duo, Brenda and Albert, with one release on a short-lived Sussex subsidiary label Clarama 1200 (1974) 'Talking About Loving You / This Has Happened Before'. The group then reformed with Diane Destry in place of Zulema and signed to RCA as part of a production deal that Van McCoy had with the label.'To Each His Own' hit the charts in 1975. The group had one last hit, "Don't Pity Me" in 1978, which was an R&B Top 20 release. Single releases 2 on Maxwell 5 on Sussex 6 on RCA (Victor) 1 on Weayz 1 on WEA 2 on 20th Century LPs "Faith hope & Charity" (1970 Maxwell) "Heavy love" (1972 Sussex) "Faith Hope & Charity" (1975 RCA Victor) "Life goes on" (1976 RCA) "Don't pity me" (1977 20th Century) "Faith hope & charity" (1978 20th Century)
  21. As an occassional ebay seller. I normally charge £2 to send a 45. Forgetting the cost of postage and packaging, the real cost is in me getting there. It can be 1 hour round trip to my nearest post office, thanks to many of the smaller ones having been closed. Maybe you should take this into consideration before thinking £2.50 is overpricing. As for the Ebay free postage scam, they still don't appear to have changed it back. Grrrr
  22. ...and your on a soul forum? Only kidding. You're missing out on one of the greatest songs made IMHO.
  23. Donny by a few zillion country miles
  24. The Pointer Sisters also did a version in the 7ts on Blue Thumb
  25. Written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, & Roland Chambers to be exact. Nice tune.
