  5. Made my best mate lol Walking round Tk Max last saturday flicking through the XXL Ben Shermans listening to the background music when Moses Smith - Girl Across the stree comes on. Mrs looks at me a laughs , moved on to the 38" waisted Skinners when the next tune comes on...awesome f**kin awesome...bollcoks to the skinners. Finds the nearest speaker and stand underneath for the best earoling, the chorus kicks in...this is fluckin brill, wtf is it? Sounds like Drizabone!!!!! My Mrs then finds me looking up to the speaker singing with my eyes shut..."what are you doing? "do you know what this record is?" "for Christ sake we're out shoping" "I'll catch you up in 5 mins"... Off I trundle to the help desk.... "can I help you sir" "yeah what was the last tune played on your PA system?" "what(confused) the musice being played is a cd that HQ send down" "ok you don't know what the last tune was do ya" "Sorry I'm a assistant not a DJ" LOL The chorus and the girls vocal just stuck in my mind, that night after some fairly comprehensive googling I found out who it was and my 12" copy came through today, 1992 release date (is this a modern oldie) Ive since been told by those that matter that its a pop record.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FNZorXd9is

  9. Mel. I'm pretty sure Ive got some other Torch stuff thats been replaced over the years with white promo's etc. Found a Charles Wright- Keep saying if you wannt it again FREE, and can I pay you to take Offenbach - Judy in disguise off me, possibly the worst thing Alan Day ever played at the Torch. Can you clear something up for me... Two records that I'm convinced I heard at the Torch, would have been late days (Dec 72-Jan 73) The Wooden Knickle -Nobody but you and Dalton James and Sutton-Run Baby...my ole muckers reckon both were early Casino??? Can you help me win a packet of spangles and 5 bustaids
  10. I have the Cheyene and The Puzzles give me your addy via PM and there yours for nowt... cya
  11. Ive done the 100 club a couple of times as a jock and many times as a paying punter...The latter is far more enjoyable imho. Most on here who have been in a similar situation will hopefully understand what I'm attempting to say. When the Torch closed I was depressed, when the Peterboro Wirrina closed I was distraught, when The Casino closed I was so far removed I didn't even know it was still going. Adi and the rest of the team, roll your sleeves up, stick your chests out and move on with dignity, every clould......etc. 100 club memory..." Adi, thats better than my wifes fanny" KTF

  19. Went out for a few in Peterborough Saturday night with those that have done the Wheel thing, and like me had a go at the Tunstall experience and said hello to the early Casino...I guess come 10pm must have been 20 of us talking about a The Lantern, 12 a quid, Bustaids, Alan Day, Tony Jebb and Glen Bellamy at Bletsoe, etc etc etc... One bloke in particular who I hadn't seen for 30 years spoke for most there who suggested that the 'gear' and staying out all night 'blocked' was the only reason why most from these parts went all-nighting the same bloke who hated the records then, now loves what some call the 'northern soul sound' 53 years old and he simply justs enjoy the music...doesn't go to the soul nights just buys one CD each week to play in his car which he sings along too... An English bloke who's been there, worn the tee shirt is oblivious to the current UK SOUL scene who for what is worth honestly believes that The Magnetics--I have a Girl, is the best thing ever to be laid down... While some of us discuss labels, run out grooves, jocks playing cd;s and that venues that resemble sports halls there are many out there like my mates who just "keep on keepin on" unaware of the backstabbing sh--it that has encapsulated our scene.
  20. Morning Terry, you ok mate? I'm sorry I can't get to these 'decent events' you refer to. Personal comittments this last 24 months have to a degree put the kibosh on traveling up and down the country to venues which DO attempt to keep the type of scene you and I grew up with alive. I attempt to support our local scene which I agree are oldie's orientated apart from Stamford soul with Poke where right accross the board is encouraged. The full of twits, who have a no records, who have no taste/imagination comments to a degree I accept. I DJ what 10 times a year and do it because I thoroughly enjoy the experinece however it still to this day pisses me off as a collector when you're waiting to do your set and some bloke with the personality of cat sh*t spends an hour wacking out Gwen Owens, George Blackwell, Damon Fox on boots. I'd like to think that some of us Peterboroians still show the scene some respect by mixing their sets up in an attempt to appeal to most in the room when the venue allows it... My last set played out... Gary Dean - You can say - YOUNG The Cautions - No other way - SHRINE The Flirtations - Stronger than her love - FESTIVAL WHITE PROMO Dickie Wonder - Nobody Knows - SOUND OF SOUL DJ COPY The Atlanta Soul Bro's - c/up Ben Aiken - Satisfied - LOMA WHITE PROMO The Gypsies - Its a Womans world - OLD TOWN WHIE PROMO Brice Coefield - Aint That Right - OMEN WHITE PROMO William Bell - Happy - STAX WHITE PROMO Fantastic Puzzles c/up Mel & Tim - Forever in a Day STAX Vince Monatana - Thats what love does - PSW Donald McCollum - u don't want my love - Dome Records Walter Jackson - Back in my life - FADER CAT Exsaveyons - I dont' love you no more - SMOKE The Hyperions - Why you wanna treat me - CHATTAHOOCHEE The Symbolics- I'm gonna get you back - PLUT Mitchell Brathtwaite - Youve been a long time coming PROBE WHITE PROMO The Intros - Stop look and listen - JAMIE Maurice Williams c/up Nowhere near the high standards you expect however with contacts, a limited budget and some imagination those that you too readily chastise Terry CAN when the opportinity arrises still offer something positive to the Cambs/Northants area/ Regards Paul Donnelly
