  1. Where to begin?

The weather was poor, there was a rail strike, but our punters enthusiasm wasn’t going to be damped. People were arriving, half an hour before hand, to get prime seats and watch as we finished setting up the PA.

There is always a delay from when the stylus drops on that first record to when the first intrepid dancer steps out on to the floor. Jokingly called ‘the two-pint lag’. The two-pint lag because people need two pints before limbering up for a boogie: a pint for each leg I guess. But not tonight. Colin showed his mastery of the decks and soon the floor was brimming full of revellers.

Hit after hit, dance after dance, the pace was relentless. Requests were offered up from a very knowledgeable crowd: tunes came out that hadn’t seen the light of day in years.

I don’t think anybody was disappointed.

The atmosphere was charged and switching off at the end as difficult. We are to do it again.

Please spread the word. Let people know what a lovely venue this is and what a cracking night we all have.

  2. The first few events in establishing a new event can be a roller coaster of a ride: will it take off; will we get enough support; will people want to come back? Well, today, I think you proved we are well established in spades. Your loyalty and support are seeing us through. Being punter-centric means are developing a ‘sound’ that is unique to us, to Selby, to the Final Whistle. We try so hard to play your favourites tunes and mix them in with floor fillers and much-loved classics and when discovered, bring to the fore, future classics.

To day was summarised by this quote, “You know Steve, keeping up with and dancing to all these great tunes, you need to install a defibrillator somewhere here soon.” Made me laugh my head off.
