  1. Gotta agree about the carpenter track. We knew it was coming but it doesn't help in anyway at all, I feel i've lost a member of the family. If it wasn't for him I may never of got into this scene as it was the tops as a 13 year lad that made me take notice of 60s black music. RIP we're all miss you
  2. Was reissued about 3 yrs ago as a exact replica not saying thats what you have, and dont know if it was a legal release but there was lots on ebay at the time. I sold one about 2 months back for about £25.
  3. They proberly be less ashamed if you said you were wife swapping on a saturday night.
  4. Bill Bush hes white aint he.
  5. Anyone know the new web address help would be appreciated Cheers Darren
  6. 2 more Butch broke recently Johnny Praye - too much love Tommy Ds - Dont play the role and who played margaret little and Contessa first, mind you ive never heard Contessa out ever. Also all this talk about whos the best DJ is irrelivent as most venues just scratch each others backs its a closed shop. I know a couple of people that could match most but never get the chance as they aint gonna beg to spin tunes for any of these promoters. Best Darren
  7. Yeah its proving a bit difficult this one. Come on somone must have one somewhere there willing to part with.
  8. I mentioned the Lester Tipton and Al Williams to brad a couple a of wks ago and these were found in the loft of a old ladies house in Detroit, she had absolutly no idea what she had and was amazed at the value of them. I would trust this guy 100% always been a pleasure when ive done business with him, as for them turning up in quantity dream on I cant see it myself. Maybe other parts of the states might have stuff in quantity hidden away somewhere, but Detriot this place has been turned upside down by every man and his dog on the hunt for that one big pay day. I might be wrong but I doudt it. Darren
  9. Wendell Watts on Reforee Anyone got one they want to sell pm me
  10. I think the record prices will go higher over time especially as the scenes in for another dollop of commercialisation from the media with a couple of feature films on the way that will bring a few people into the scene, look at Quadrophenia everyone wanted scooter & Parker before that film was over, of course these films will have to go some to have that sort of impact. However, the point that there wont be a market in 25 years, I think is wrong as more people collect rare records now than ever and if you look at some very early classical pieces that come to market they make our big ticket items look cheap and theres not much of a customer base there, lots like it but the masses dont buy it on vinyl you see once somthing establishs its self as rare and valuable it generally stays that way. I do agree that the prices are to high on lots of records that aint rare the first one that pops into my mind is Ruby Andrews always one for sale and always gets £100+ theres loads more we all could mention. With regard to the big ticket items I think they will rise year on year as people will always trade in high end vinyl that has established rarity (even none soulies) this always keeps the market buoyant and because its a global market place today the exposure a record gets is massive so every dealer in the world knows its for sale when a rare piece comes to market. When we all used buy our records face to face we could get records at reasonble prices those days are gone and not coming back, also now we have a global scene and not just one confined to the north of England if I bid on a record i'm not just having to bid more than my mate or somone else in the room, now your fighting all four corners of the globe and that will keep the rare stuff high. So I say the very rare stuff will keep rising and the not so rare will level out at its current values but will still appreciate over the next 10 to 20 years. Be interesting to read this thread in 5 or 10 years time maybe we should add a few sales from this month as a reference. Cheers Darren
  11. How many copies of Johnny Honeycutt are out there I've only ever seen 1 for sale and I bought it, just wondering as Dennis Edwards is mentioned as mega rare, Ive had 2 of these over the last 20 years and have seen at least 3 on ebay and Jm had a issue copy on his auction a couple of years ago which I think he owns himself, so I would say more than 10 easy but im not sure on the Johnny Honeycutt I know Mick H has one as he played it not so long back. While i'm on a record I've been after for years is Wendell Watts - Kiss agood thing goodbye on reforee Ive only seen one about 6 mths back on Johns auction but I couldn't afford it as it got a bit out of control at the end. Anyone know if theres any more about. Cheers Darren
  12. See Im not the only one
  13. I always thought it Vince out that comedy Just good friends, cant remember his real name. He had some other releases around that time as well so all seems to fit, but I cant remember where I got this info. His name has just come to me Paul Nicholas who remembers Captain of my ship wot a tune. Of course I have nothing to back any of this up so pick the bones out of it at your leisure.
  14. If you Pm me i'll tell you what a good turn out is, I think we've all experienced one of them.
  15. One thing thats needs to be said regarding John & Tims books and shopping trips to the USA and anyone else's for that matter, is that once landed in the uk the stock is not all sold that day it can be tied up for years in business'es of this kind the margins have to be high otherwise your never get out of negative cash flow not to mention tax and vat. As for the few big ticket items that get found within a consignment or trip, thats the luck of the draw no ones stopping any one else from doing it themselves and the only reason they dont do it is because they dont have the knowledge or contacts, when you've worked at it for nearly 30 years or so, you earn the right to make a good living at it and I dont begrudge either of them making a couple of quid out of me if they've done the leg work. As for the USA dealers selling to cheap in the early days of the internet they would have realised within a couple of years the true values maybe even less, anyway no one would have been able to stop Ebay and the market place the big rise in values now is down to exposure and everyone can log on to the Bay tonight and see this in action a beat up copy of Margaret Little over £2k Tommy & Derbys, Lester Tipton, The Sweets and many more these prices are now Driven by the market and these guides are really for people who only want a reference, and then make there own judgement as whether they really want a said record. Tommy D and Madge Little dont even appear in Johns Guide so that kinda proves the point that hes not influencing the market. I've not checked lately so I stand to be corrected. Remember all record guides are priced for records in Mint condition and thats what carrys the premium, and while i'm at it you can give John a buzz and he will give you the benefit of his knowledge as I've found out, and just for the record I barely know the bloke most of my collection has come my own endeavours, which is always the most economical way to get what you want at the price you can afford. Just as a side issue the people who really influence values at the top end are the Djs and the dealers only react to that. Darren.
  16. Kenny wells - isnt it just a shame when did that first get played and the Great Ward Burton - Sweet Temptation. Two fine tunes Darren
  17. I'm not sure about this one whether its had plays in the past Arin Demain - You dont have to cry anymore Flip side of Silent I've been playing it over the last couple of years but cant say Ive heard it out ever apart from myself of course a really great record and some what over looked. Darren
  18. Great shout Milton Bennett just love it, anyone mentioned the Tootsie Rollers another great tune getting lots of plays.
  19. Of course Wendell Watts - Kiss a good thing goodbye, post stafford top 5 never mind top 500 anyone got one for sale ? if youve not heard it check out refosoul. Not to many know this one as theres only a couple of copies about.
  20. How about Marvin gayes unissued version of When I feel the need played by Chris King if i'm not mistaken and covered up as its my baby even though Nick ashford had already released it on verve. That said the two versions are poles apart. I think it stands out from crowd even now a real piece of full on Northern its got the lot for me, and Bill Bush hasn't been mentioned either love it or hate it, it always fills the floor. Darren
  21. Yeah my thoughts exactly Tommy for delphs no brainer, also if your cheque books big enough I just saw a Margaret Little on the bay as well. Imagine picking up your mail one morning and theres a tommy Ds and a Madge Little waiting for you. Catch you at Berkley some time.
  22. Be interesting to see what it goes for I swapped a Red issue copy of Jimmy Delphs - Dancing a hole for mine on Jms Auction the cash value was £2.4k. I reckon it could go for even more, as people are hearing it more and more and Ive had big offers for mine which I wont be selling ever as its just pure class. However saying all that it was played at Berkley early, on Saturday night and correct me if Im wrong but no one danced although somone did have a look at the record as she took it off the decks. I suppose its wait for the shoot out towards the end of the auction be interesting anything under £2k and its a bargain when put along side other so called rarities and big ticket items. Darren
  23. £100 if mint maybe a bit more if your lucky on the bay
  24. South bound freeway much rarer and released first as you can tell by the cat numbers, then withdrawn because of the mistake. Seems to fetch Around £400+ mint £300+ for the Tony Galla official release. Watch out for boots on the Tony Galla, South bound never booted. Cheers Darren
