Great list Dave. Used to listen to all of those although we didn't get The Incredibles and JJ Barnes until a bit later. Interesting comments about the blues stuff. Can't say that I remember much of that being played around here. Cheers, Steve.

Here's one for us older soul fans. What are your top sounds that you remember from the clubs etc of the mid to late 60's that have gone on to be established Northern classics. Here's a few that I grew up with around Northants and Beds in the late 60's, Girls are out to get you Fascinations Right track Billy Butler She blew a good thing Poets Going to a happening Tommy Neal Tightrope Charlie & Inez Fox Washed ashore Platters Driving beat Willie Mitchell Walking up a one way street Willie Tee Mr bang bang man Little Hank Whats wrong with me baby? Invitations There's a quick 10 tunes from this area. How does that compare with other parts of the country? Also, is it just nostalgia or do these tunes still sound good today however many times you've heard them? Cheers, Steve.

Thought I had bought this but due to a bit of a misunderstanding have got the wrong track. Thats the trouble when your thread goes off at a tangent and other titles are mentioned . So, to recap, looking for 'Thats What I Want' in goodish nick. Will pay good money but won't go daft! Please PM me if you can help. Thanks, Steve.

Bit less Pete cos you put it on e-bay. As usual you sent it straight off and it came the next day. Yes it was mint and I was chuffed to bits. The other side is good but I bought it for Window Shopping. I know it's a bit hard to get cos I've been looking for a while. Just love the yankee traffic noise at the start! Good dance beat too. Played it at Silk and it went down well. Thanks mate, money well spent!

Just picked up a copy of The Vala-quons 'Window Shopping On Girls Avenue' and can't stop playing it! I know it's not that rare or expensive but what a catchy, quirky little tune. Anyone play it much?

Hi Delasoul! Kev's being really sneaky with this R&B track. I see he was making cryptic references to one of mine but I don't think it's that! By the way just got hold of a copy of Syng McGowan, so must give that a spin at the Pembo next week . I think this is a good little thread now, and just shows what a good bunch there is in the county. It's just we have to put up with the likes of that Snow boy coming along to invade our footie grounds from time to time . Seems to me it's anything but embarrassing as nearly every post is very positive. The overall message, endorsed by everyone who has posted, is that if you come to any of the established events around here you will have a good time!

PM'd you Jems number Dave! I think he's looking forward to your call.
-
Just spoke to Jem for you. He says he packed his account in on here 'cos of tossers like you' but if you PM me you can have his mobile number. Cheers mate, Steve.
-
Kev, next time you raid me box you can have 'One Bad Apple' cos now I have realised it's by The Osmonds and not The Jackson Five I don't want it anymore. Good to have you back even if you are going to annoy us by looking all tanned!
-
Hey Paddy, do you work for the Northants Tourist Board? You are so right about how friendly it is around here! I love the county and the events that are put on in the locality. It has always been a strong area for soul music and I believe gets loads of mentions in books written on the subject. As the historian, I'm sure you can elaborate on that. Cheers guys, Steve.

It could well have been the Osmonds come to think about it. I know I hate the bloody record!

Following a bit of a ding dong on the events lookback for Silk in Wellingborough, and the impression it gave that there are warring factions within the County, I thought it appropriate to state the following facts! Myself and Jem promote Going to a GoGo in the Rushden area. We are great mates with the promoter of Cream Cracker, Rothwell, Kev Such. We DJ for him and vice versa. We are also on great terms with Trev and Steve of Stompers and Shufflers at Kettering and frequently meet up with them and Kev for a Sunday chill out at the 3 Cocks in Kettering[highly recommended if you are at a loose end, and it's free] Likewise we are on great terms with Karl Boddington of Desborough and Corby fame. He rarely misses one of our nights and we go to Desborough regularly. The 2 Wellingborough events, We Got Soul and Soulfull Shack are great little venues run by great guys, namely Jack and Barry, and Mark D. All of whom we respect and get on with brilliantly. Both Jem and myself are regulars at their events. We also have Paddy Grady putting on different sorts of events across the county and broadcasting a soul show on Radio Northampton. Another sound guy who plugs all of the local events on his show and puts on some great live acts which we go to see as often as possible. Again no problems there. Lastly we have our mate Len Dopson who has just finished his long running rare soul nights at The Embankment Club and has been jointly promoting Silk nights in Wellingborough. Another top guy that doesn't have a bad bone in his body! All of the guys mentioned work together on avoiding clashes and where the odd hiccup has occurred in the past it has been talked through and steps taken to avoid a repeat in the future. I know of several occasions when dates have been changed to avoid a clash. I am not aware of any other major soul events in the county but if I have missed anyone then I do apologise. Why do I find it neccesary to bore everyone with this? Well, one well known local individual has been undermining most things that we and others in the area are trying achieve. Why? We really have no idea but we have overwhelming evidence to support our case. I am determined to prove that the music is bigger than any individual and call upon all the guys that I have mentioned to come on here and back me up on the FACT that there are no problems between Promoters in Northants! To quote The Jackson Five 'don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch' Sorry about the rant, Steve B.

No Jem! I won't be lured to the workshop on a promise of cleaning my Roger Hatcher. I have seen 'others' who have had a taste of the 'special stuff'. I've seen the nose bleeds but don't worry, the secrets are safe with me mate!
-
Trust me Jed, Jemco is a bloody marvel at record cleaning and has on more than one occasion converted a would be 'frisbie' into a listenable record. Word of warning though, they are so highly polished they speed up. My Magic Corner by Pinkie and Perkie and Shing A LIng by the Chipmunks are great if you want 'stompers' for the end of the night.
-
Have to agree about Here Comes My Baby, how underated is that? Steve.
-
Not been able to find that to listen to, but sure i have heard that backing track on something else. The only other Rodd Keith i know is Lock Me Up but not sure what the B side would have been. I think he was a white poet/musician who did loads of oddball stuff.
-
A near mint copy of Rodd Keith 'Gloria' on Preview. Same backing as 'Like the Lord Said' which lists in Manships at £1000. Gloria lists at £300. Is it worth £100? PM me if it is of interest. Thanks, Steve.

After suprising success in my quest for 'the Boss Four', thanks to the help of you guys, here's a harder one! Any clues where i might pick up a copy of this? Any condition considered.
-
good taste Baz. We will be hammering Diamonds and Pemberton with this as well. Should deffo take off big style around here as maybe a bit in the Harry Deal mould. About best value record on the market i reckon!
-
Thanks guys for all your help. looks like i may end up with 2!!! Still, can't have enough of a good thing!
