  1. Whilst out at Andys charity bash at Higham Ferrers last night, I managed to shut the lid of my record box onto my copy of Ace Spectrum. Hooray, some may shout, but it is an oft requested tune and I hate being without it. Maybe some kind soul will let me have one for a very reasonable fee as we did raise loads of money for Cancer Research. Yours beggingly, Steve.
  2. The Stoppers, Come Back Baby on Jubilee. Anyone got one of these for sale? Demo or issue, not fussed. Please PM or phone 07860 673606. Thanks, Steve.
  3. E Mailed you. Darrow Fletcher please! Thanks, Steve.
  4. Looking for a decent copy of Peggy March, Losin' My Touch on RCA either issue or demo. Please either pm me or phone 07860 673606. Thanks, Steve.
  5. Couldn't agree more Del n Kev! Went there as a kid and certainly don't remember it as being cutting edge. Just a good night out for mods n skins. Regards, Steve.
  6. Same problem here! Sent him a euro draft for around e250 and guess what? The 2 records never came and he ignores my e mails. I tricked him into opening an e mail with a read receipt under a different name and he replied saying he hadn't had any money. Brilliant considering he acknowledged receiving the registered letter with the draft. I have his address, but not sure how pucker it is, in Mons. I may well organise a visit from one of my 'friends'. If anyone can shed more light please pm me. Regards, Steve.
  7. I have been watching for this on E Bay and on the sales on this site. I paid £100 for mine in mint condition but noticed even vg copies have made £125 plus on E Bay. I was always outbid at around £125 and watched one make around £180. Missed one on here for £125. Manship book price is £125 and this seems to be a conservative price by what they are around at currently. Regards, Steve.
  8. Couldn't agree more Mark. Although I did chuckle at Chris Ls last comment . Cheers, Steve.
  9. Even by your own dull witted standards you have reached a new level of ill informed stupidity. I am not interested in the other two, but Jemco and myself put on the Pembo and have given around £2000 to charity as pictured with various cheques in the local paper. We have put in plenty of our own money with no return to give people what they want. If playing the likes of Betty Lloyd, Skip Jackson,Sam Fletcher, Tobi Lark etc, etc on original vinyl is 'handbag' then guilty as charged. Amazing comments for someone who has never been. I am not interested in you or your comments but at least get your facts right! The only played out oldie around here is you. Grow up! All the best, Stevo from the Pembo.
  10. Rod Keith Now on hold.
  11. Sorry mate. He had one this morning in his sale but the phones were red hot! All the best, Steve.
  12. John Manship has a copy at the mo! £50 I think.
  13. A few to go. All in good nick but pm me for detailed description if interested. Virgil Henry I Can't Believe Your Really Leaving Colossus demo £10 Bessie Jones No more Tears Abet £45 Rod Kieth Gloria Preview Records £60 (Samebacking track as 'Like The Lord Said') Four Tops Helpless/ Just As Long As You Need Me Motown (French only EP 45) £30 Eddie Holland Jamie Motown (2.15 version) £12 Eddie & Ernie I Can't Do It United Artists UK (centre missing) £6 Thanks, Steve.
  14. Nice thread Mark. I think we need to set up a self help group with counciling and mutual support to beat the addiction. I can spend any amount in a month but it's not just the money. I find that just looking on here or E Bay always ends up with 'ooh, that's a nice tune. I think I'll have a go at that one'. Dangerous, particularly when you have time on your hands! All the best, Steve. Ps, see you at Silk later in the year mate.
  15. Thanks Dazz. I have just bought a copy 'blind' off E Bay for very little money. It is coming from LA so it will probably take a couple of weeks. I was staggered when I looked in Manship guide at its value! But I know that doesn't mean a thing with regard to the quality of the record. As it's '63 I guess it's RnB in style? If anyone knows where there is a clip, please let me know, Thanks, Steve.
  16. I have already asked if anyone has a clip of this track to no avail. Does anyone know it and is it any good? The only reference I can find is that it appears on a Goldmine CD 'Collectors Choice' as the last track. It must be quite rare but someone must know it. Cheers, Steve.
  17. Been trying to find a clip of this track. I can't remember if i know it or not but as it's '63 i guess it is R&B ish. It was issued on Niagara and is on a goldmine CD. Can anyone throw any light on this one please? Thanks, Steve B.
  18. Ok, I underestimated the interest for this thread so here's another question. What sort of money was changing hands for some of the deleted UK stuff and imports around this time? In 1971 I paid £1.50 plus a Drifters record for 'The Right Track ' on Soul City. I think I earned about £12 a week at the time. This was before any 'Northern' imports were about but I remember things like The Drifters and Percy Sledge 'Baby Help Me' being around 85p from Carlows record shop in Bedford. They had a small import list which later morphed into a big list of the latest 'Northern' By todays prices they were bloody expensive! Motown etc on British were 50p. Cheers, Steve.
  19. OK then Kev! Instrumentals - You Gotta pay the price Al Kent, Secret Home Willie Mitchell, Wade in the water Ramsey just for a kick off! Cheers Steve.
  20. Looks like this thread has run its course so thanks guys to all that have contributed. I would like to leave you with this thought, the same tunes were being played up and down the country at a time when transport was limited and expensive and there was no internet. Just shows the old grapevine must have been working well! Thanks, Steve B.
  21. Paul, you would have been dancin' to The Superlatives in your head whilst everybody was listening to 'Moody Woman' then .
  22. Mel's bang on the money with his comments. Agree as well about 'Here she comes', cracking tune. Jem, thats dead right about Darrel Banks. Isn't funny how the early music was quite mid paced, moved to a much faster tempo when regarded as 'Northern', and has now gone full circle back to mid pace. Couple of gentle Motown shufflers from that era, Mary Wells 'What two can easily do' and Brenda Holloway 'When I'm gone' Cheers, Steve.
  23. Some more intersting stuff! I had Soul Bros Six, Some kinda wonderful, for years without knowing that the flip was 'I'll be loving you '. Spellbinders 'Help me' just has to be an all time great. As for an oldie to play today, how about Darrow Fletcher 'The pain just gets a little deeper' ? Maybe we should run a thread of what to put on a CD limited to say 24 tracks. Cheers, Steve.
  24. Thanks guys for making this a great little thread! Great memories and a lot of good tunes mentioned. I really think that a lot of these should be revisited as I'm sure a lot of soulies have missed out on this very early stuff! Keep em coming, Steve.
  25. All of those would be played Ed, along with a load of tunes that would later be regarded as 'Northern Soul classics'. At the time the term Northern Soul had not caught on and these tunes happily blended in alongside traditional Tamla, Stax, Atlantic etc. These early years are of particular interest as they built the foundations for all that we follow thirty years on. Regards, Steve.
