  3. I feel very strange posting in here ...probably my very first time But today I was given a box of a few northern soul records the guy isn't into N/S anymore ..in fact he never returned Sooooooo.... I thought I might throw a few titles artists and labels for you to tell me if you've heard of them. I haven't included any that I know of that are also in the box ..ie 3 before 8 on Rk label including the original sleeve with notes from Russ Winstanely...Im sure they're ten a penny So heres what was also in the box feel free to tell me what you think and what theyre worth in your opinion Cheers Mand I'm standing/Rufus Lumley /EMI label (as new) INT556 You better believe it baby /Joe Tex /Dial label DL9900-1 Marching / The camp/Scepter /Special Dj pressing white label Don't go away baby /Frank Lyndon Uptown label/promo copy Theme from colouredman /Teddy Vanns Orchestra Jimmie Raye/Philly dog around the world/KKC label S-002 Anne Perry/That's the way he is/ Theoda label /T-201 Esperanto/The grand piano company/ Ampex label promo copy ( not even surte if its an N/s vinyl ) X11032 The Kid /Andre Brasseur /Congress label/ CG271 (radio station copy) K10163 What do you think?
  4. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I never thought I'd live to see the day that Chalky admits to liking oldies LOLOL Mand And I can't list a fave that stays in my top 10
  5. Hi Kev noted...... it was just in reference to Daves comment Ian seems to have no objection so long as its not a personal attack But I won't mention it again Mand
  6. You start it Dave ....I will finish it LOLOL ( I mean scrabble) Attic guys are very keen on the underplayed genre of the music I've visited their venue I also got the P took out of me for liking duffy ( I like her voice it has a certain quality I like ) PS I don't offend easliy just get a bit fed up of folks who slag of venues for their music policy! After all were entitled to our own opinion ...and boy we do have some on here! LOL Mand The Brit Annesley Bentinck ( back room) These clubs are progressive I would say
  7. Ian I loved Steve Brooksteins voice on it and it had that classic sound I listen without prejudice ...but then I form an opinion on what my ears or my feet like ..or not ...not what others say I can imagine that having your work constantly critisised does get you down and put you on the defensive I do appreciate what you're trying to do and Im sure you'll admit you wont get it right every time But I have to tell you that IMO I think you've picked a very hard genre to tackle as folks like yourself and others on the forum are VERY pasionate about "our music" But good luck with it anyway Regards Mand Remember ...you can't please all of the people all of the time
  8. Sorry about that folks back on topic now I did like very much "The wrong side of town" by The Four Vandals it had a classic sound that I liked But I'm afraid that I'm not too keen on this at the moment (it might be a grower) No offence intended Ian just MO Mand
  9. Uh oh here we go again lets have a go at the midlands for being oldies loving baggies wearers (ok you said a few) I know plenty of venues in the EM who like their soul progressive so don't pidgoen hole everyone in the same box!!!!!!!!!! We don't run to the floor at oldies veunes either...that was was when all the skinny kids danced and the majority still had a run in them! We get bashed for playing anything new IE duffy ...and then in the same breath get bashed for the same old same old Make your bloody minds up Dont call me oldies lover I've decided I want to be called a purist from now on pure northern soul as it was recorded by the original artist on the original vinyl .......none of that remixed rehashed sung by somone else stuff No offence is meant to ANYONE on this thread for the above statement I know plenty of Djs who go out of their way to play venues in this area Rant over
  10. Hating to come over as a stiff here But Ive never taken drugs to dance ...or anything else for that matter I 'm usually the designated driver Gary likes a pint or 3 (ask Rednose) So if its a choice of drive and go somewhere dancing or drink and stay local .....drive it is! Agree totally with the above statement Music= natural high! Mand PS no objections to anyone else getting off their T*ts
  11. I don't often get chance to Garys workmates but hes only worked his current job 2 years and is now discovering a few of them were soulies in their former lives One of them attended palais the same time as me the other attended the other clubs Gary forgot which one he told him used to attend regularly I would suspect The Beachcomber because I remember that one and not The Dungeon or The Brit. thanks for the reply Mand
  12. Were any of these clubs around the same time as the Palais? My hubby has a friend at work who siad he used to go to other clubs around notts but not the palais Think his name is Mark Skidmore (Could be wrong will check) Mand
  13. Thanks Familytree They are classic records without which there wouldnt be the scene we have today If it wasn't for classic oldies there'd be no modern Mand
  14. Have been reading this thread for the last hour or so ...what fantastic stories Never met the man ...what a character But the stories told on here remind me of the stories told by a chap called Frank on another forum Had me enthralled as do these... Northern soul history is peppered with fantstic characters Thanks for sharing Mand
  15. HERE HERE Joan The voice of reason As for the 10 ...LOL have to agree with you there too Joan Mand
  16. I attend Oldies venues should I hide now ???? I 'm not keen on this tune but that wasnt the poll question ..It said was it a classic tune and I would say yes So when you've finished putting us all in boxes for being badge wearing white sock spencer soul bag / beer towel wearers Remember there wouldn't be a Northern Soul Scene if it wasn't for tune like this. Doesn't say we all have to like it. Mand
  17. Thats because Palais was doing a hell of a lot of the breaking/covering up of new record finds at the time Correct me if I'm wrong Mand Jonathan....Have Tracey and Andy asked you to DJ???? Send her a PM if not because I know she wants original Palais DJs
  18. Wow ....we do have some quite young folks on the scene ... Dont see that many out and about tho I'm 45 (NOT 50 Dendog that you told everyone on my birthday in october! ) LOL I'm still 17 on the inside still have all the energy I did way back then ..I look in the mirror and see an old wrinkley staring back at me.....keep giving myself a hell of a Shock!
  19. HES HERE!!!!! members intro Mand
  20. Yes I was there mate! shame cos no-one remembers me but they always remember the DJs of the time! I did hear that one of the DJs of our time sadly passed away a couple of years ago I danced my heart out at the majority of the alldayers much the same as others as I got more experienced at the dancing I worked my way towards front as you did in them days ...incorporated gym moves as part of my (hence being nicknamed Mrs backflip) I still have my raf blue spencer skirt ...can only get one leg in the waist these days tho LOL Will you be joining us for the reunion? Regards Mand
  21. Have to say many of my fave motown tunes been mentioned suspicion being one But I think If I were a carpenter by the four tops makes the hairs stand up every time I know its not played out that much but I still love it the intro is brilliant Mand PS anyone on here own the whole back catalogue????
  22. Trevski ...have you got all that hair still????
  23. is that a jukebox in the background? Always wanted a jukebox nearly got a working one last year from a furniture project but some "dealer " got it for 100 quid the git! and it had boxes of singles too
