  3. Hi Sean Im sorry I cant help you with this one I was a regular at Notts Palais in those days but I hardly knew a soul...ie! I went to dance and thats what I did! I know very few folks I met in those days ... Only a small group from my village and a few folks from mansfield who Ive recently met back up with. Mand ( billy no mates)
  4. Your totally right the needle never moves from the edge of the record how strange Have we been had??? Mand
  5. I think the ability to read the dancefloor is essential what Djs have to remember is he/she will judged as good or crap dependant on what happens on the piece of wood in front of them!!! Atho Ido have some favorite Dj's locally I find once I say I like them they go and play the crappest set ever!!! I have also known one Dj play a whole set to an empty dancefloor ( he hasn't been invited back to that club since) Ive also seen Dj's play all their loved ones favourites and theyve been virtually the only people on the dancefloor All I ask is for djs to look at the dancefloor if no one is on it play summat else And before anyone pipes up there are folks who don't dance to consider I agree with that too BUT...if they come to and oldies do expect that policy if they go to a modern do expect that that policy I expect clubs to do what they say on the flyer Mand
  6. I would be up dancing all night to this lot Afterall Im an oldies fan and they do what they say on the can Mand

  10. Ok ...So we have a list of soulful towns and cities across the UK. Why not get a map of the UK pinpoint all of them on the map and then see where most clubs are concentrated into one area to gain a better picture of the most soulful county or city? Mand ( geopgraphy teacher )

  13. Hi Bridget Ive seen the one advertising for "dancers only " doesn't that alienate the record collectors... the listeners and all the other soulies who dont dance? Sometimes I question my weather Iam a proper soulie because I dont travel hundreds of miles from home ( but I do travel ) been to pilsley on occasion I dont have a huge vinyl collection and I do like oldies ( for which folks get slated on here at times ) But Iam a dancer!!! I think any of the above makes you a soulie Mand xx

  15. I have to agree with you Chrissie I love to see young soul rebels dancing to the N/ S tunes we all love And as Martin points out quite a few of us have groups of mates we meet up with at Soul do's on a regular basis I make an effort to try and chat to newbies and make them feel welcome Once went to Hinckley Clarendon club and a bunch of 20yr old scooterists arrived dropped everything at the side of the dancefloor and started dancing ( and good they were too) their dress sense was fantastic too (ben shermans and the like) All power to their elbow!!! Mand the happy soulie PS Chrissie hope your do does well xxx
  16. Anyone on here ( probably all of you ) visit Rob Smiths shop in nottingham city that guys shop is tidy compared to Robs!! I went there when i first arrived for this revival Jesus what a wierd place ..like the attic in the ark! Whats the difference beteween this guy and Rob? Rob buys out the same kind of places radio stations and the like I do know that most of the vinyl we crave comes from the USA But as most have stated the best stuff is now in the UK So whats to say that hidden in the shop in nottingham is that rare gem worth thousands? Mand
  17. Hi Ken I was a huge supremes fan way back in the good old 70's But when I listen to their stuff now it seems quite samey Diana got bigger and bigger and the group seemd to be further and further in the background .... they were a group then it became DIANA ROSS and the supremes I still love the sound of Martha and the Vandellas...they have that certain something Mand
