  1. After reading a thread on here the term "fairground soul " was mentioned so anyone like to add tunes to a list of farirground soul that reminds them of the fairground I will start by adding Wherever I lay my hat / Marvin Gaye Be my baby / The Ronettes Homely girl /The chi-lites
  2. As you probably know I come from what in the trade is called footsyland (east midlands) We constantly get slagged off for loving our oldies and being stuck in the past Yet this is gettin plays all over the local clubs and fills the floor I have it on good old vinyl ( original copy of course ) I happen to love it and of course the guys who did a sterling job in the video representing the face of todays northern soul scene I wouldnt deem it "pop drivel" I would class it as a new oldie Mand Paul sorry I couldn't edit your post off this one pc being gay!!! Btw I think its terrible you didnt get any credit for the supply of one of the female dancers from your play
  3. I did have a look for it Bridget but wasnt sure where it would be posted thanks I will pick that thread up now Mand

  7. I agree with Doc I still look at other peoples dance moves Im still learning and I sometimes get thanked for being first on the floor when the room is "cold" wether they like my dancing or not I can do the odd floor piece but after seeing a youtube vid recently I thought I dont want to look like that ( being female) but there are still some brilliant dancers shufflers stompers out there So just keep on keepin on guys you're doing a great job Mand
  8. Irish soul brother Brill ..makes semse as shes irish ! Mand :O) Go Liam!
  9. He enjoyed every minute on saturday Had a chat with him he was a wigan member from 1973 does anyone recognise him from way back? Mand
  10. Alway one of my regrets..not getting to Wigan Casino As my parents first born and only girl child ...it was YOU'RE NOT BLOODY GOING AND THATS THAT YOU'RE TOO YOUNG TO GO ALL THAT WAY ON YOUR OWN Little did they know my younger brother climbed out of his window to go to the allnighters only to be already up out of bed red eyed the next morning lying through his back teeth that he'd got up early!!! One of the first things I did upon my return to the scene was buy a wigan T shirt ( I dont wear it now) But I will say this.. every venue Ive visited Ive danced on those floors the way I would have as if I had been on the floor at Wigan ( a lot less acrobatically I might add tho ) I m 44 and love dancing even more now than I did back then And Notts Palais will always bring back happy memories as it was the only place I ever was allowed to go Mand

  16. QUOTE(Madmandy @ Sep 19 2007, 04:56 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong about what? no right or wrong as theres no rules Its all about the scoooters and music ? No its all about the scooters... Not how old the followers are? true but in time if no youngsters come in to it what happens then? we wither and die!!!! I have no problem with any age group doing what they want.. but I think after a while youngsters won't get in to it because to hang around with people older than your parents isn't a good thing.. that goes for any scene.. isn't the rockin scene dead now or close to it.. proberly because they are an older generation than most soulies. yeah but they look silly !! And don't the scooterists mostly finish their journies at soul do's? No some of my Skinhead mates Hate Soul so they go to Ska Do's - some mod mates don't like the Northern Rooms incase 70's and modern gets played... some are intrested in other types of music... look at the Happy House scooter club a few years a go (5 years ago) they was in to Rave or some thing not really sure.. didn't Mersey have a rave room at one time.. I even know people that go on rallies and just go to the pub as they are only there to ride there scooters and catch up with mates.. I even have mates that go to rallies and don't leave the campsites as thats what they enjoy they don't even listern to one record all weekend.. I apologise theres more to life at the end of the road than a N soul do

  18. Where do the scooter rallies usually end up at the end of their journey? theres lots of old blokes on scooters too as well as on the N/s scene I would say they arent following the old folks but the scooters and the music ? Correct me if I'm wrong
  19. I bet its not lambrinis fault tho eh? LOL Btw ...do you think the're trying to nick KFC's thunder???? Mand
  20. OH ...........PS thats probably why all my teeth are falling out LOL
  21. tut tut you don't get it ...its advertising to a "younger " market!! If it brings in new blood to the scene looking for that kind of dance music then bring it on Ps I drink gallons of it and I don't care who knows! I know we have vinyl snobbery on here but alcohol snobbery shame on you all PMSL
  22. Graduation Day Posted by Madmandy, 14 September 2007 Oh Happy day Much Better News This Weekend Posted by Madmandy, 01 July 2007 My oldest lad has passed his degree He got a 2.1 ( what he had hoped for ) For those of you who dont understand the scoring (like me) Its like getting a silver medal at the olympics A 1st is like getting gold YIPPEEEEE So now he can go and get a job !!!!!! My Old Youth Leader Posted by Madmandy, 29 June 2007 · My old youth club leader Has been diagosed with brain cancer I went to visit her and shes still in good spirits altho we did cry together We did also have a right laugh when she was telling me about things she has done since the op due to some side effects. She has had an op to remove 70% of the tumour but 30% still remains and is inoperable It did bring back the vast majority of her speech which she had lost she does sometimes try to get ahead of herself and forgets the odd word or persons name ( a small price to pay ) which she then writes down She says she'll be lucky to see her 60th birthday in october this year She herself was a battered child and she did so much for the kids I grew up with who had bad upbringings I met another lady who Dee looked after and she says she wouldnt be here now if it werent for Dee and her husband Richard who helped her when she was litearlly in the gutter I told Dee this and also told her she made an impact and made a difference to peoples lives ...something to be very proud of How cruel she won't even see any grandchildren and be as supportive as she was to us when we were kids. Mand Dukeries Leisure Centre Saturday 23 June Posted by Madmandy, 25 June 2007 I would like to give special thanks to : Dennis Bradbury Ian Marriott Rob Smith Gaz ( the fez ) they did a sterling job at keeping everyone happy and dancing Also to Keith the badge man ( sorry I didnt get to say gnite) Also thank you to Sharon and Frank Lynne and Rob John ( rednose) and Carol Ray and Mary for travelling to attend and always supporting me as good friends do you're all one in a million! Posted by Madmandy, 26 January 2007 Would it be too much to ask that when the good old folks on SS add their old/new/venue photos that they actually tell us who is in them I for one find it very frustrating looking the brill pics but not knowing who stars in them ? I love browsing thru them looking at the soul community having a great time celebrating birthdays anniversaries etc etc But not knowing who is celebrating what So a plea from me to all the piccy uploaders please state who is in your photos or the venue or the celebration Many many thanks Mand (nosey soulie) To Our Soul Friends And Aquaintances Posted by Madmandy, 18 January 2007 Also a quick Happy new year to all our new friends and aquaintances on the soul circuit We will see you all out and about.... thats when work commitments dont get in the way!!!! Cheers Mand Belated New Year Greetings Posted by Madmandy, 18 January 2007 To all dedicated Northern soul fans out there Since rejoining the soul community a few years back My husband and I have enjoyed the vast majority of nights we attend The venues visited have included Queensway suite mansfield (our starting point in our journey) Bentinck Pilsley Awsworth Clarendon club Hinckley The Fez Forest Town Welfare Kingsway hall Sweet soul newark The Attic club Bestwood underwood Ollerton Welfare (one off with Melvyn Davis live) Grosvenor house hotel Skegness (weekender) Annesley Welfare Masonic/town hall worksop east kirkby welfare No more Doggin Leics Riddings social club leabrooks social club 2 X Alfreton reunions @ the leisure centre I have enjoyed the scene much more this time round than the first when I only managed to visit a couple of venues ( parent power) Being more mature we can go where the helll we like !!! I would like to say that promoters do a good job having hosted my own "do" in december I have realised its not easy to please everyone all of the time and to get things right so I wont moan at any promoter ! So to all of the clubs we visit we hope you all keep up the good work and wish you every success for 2007 Mand The Happy Soulie See you all very soon at a venue near you !
