  1. Hi Garv! Thanks for your positive feedback - very much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed those selections New mix will be up towards the end of December. All mixes are to be found over at https://listen.to/soulmusic and to subscribe to the podcast go to https://melismo.podomatic.com Here are some info on a few of the artists/songs that I´ve received PMs about: Kevin Owens was Luther Vandross´ backing singer for many many years, and Luther himself features as the duet partner on another of the top tracks on this album. When it comes to Black Ice, most people rave about their 70´s tunes "Postcard Love Affair" and "Blind Over You", but seldom hear people mention the more recent 7" which includes the soulful slowie I opted for here! I take it the group never cut a full album in the 80´s?! Tracy Weber only recorded a couple of singles. The tune featured here is entitled "Sure Shot" and ironically/tragically Tracy Weber was shot to death shortly after she made that recording. She was at a party and someone who intended to kill her brother, missed the target, and the bullet hit Tracy instead! Cheers, Melismo
  2. Sorry, realised right after I posted that Indira Milini Khan was not a member of 1 Of The Girls, think instead she was in the less impressive 90´s girl group Pretty In Pink...LOL...
  3. Thanks Bob, that means a lot coming from you BTW, can anyone confirm if Chaka Khan´s daughter was a member of the group 1 Of The Girls (see above) or am I just confusing things? Regards Melismo

  11. Hi Barry! As far as I know that James Bradley tune is from 1979 or am I confusing things?! Levi Stubbs and Dee Dee Warwick - great losses. They´ve touched (shaped) so many people´s lives. I think I have an album by Brooklyn Allstars. Will have to pull it out now to see if the track you played is on it. That Earl Thomas track is such a soulful goodie! Sensational Friendly Six is truly a stunner - such wonderfully melismatic vocals! Pure paradise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hot Sauce and Grover Mitchell are other favourites from your latest show. Best, Melismo
  12. Hi Bob! Enjoyed the show as I always do. My personal favourites this time: Johnny Taylor - Just the one I've been looking for Sam Hawkins - Run to me Barbara and the Browns - In my heart - Stax Minits - Lover boy Bobby Reed - If I didn't love you Precisions - Take a good look Four Below Zero - Tell me why (we can't be friends) Fillmotions - Young girl Terra Firma Band - Dreams - Lake I have a couple of recordings by Platypus, never rated that group highly, but will have to revist their catalogue now, because "Appreciate Your Love" sounds so great! However, my #1 favorite this time is: Magic - I'm loving you (You're Loving Him) on North Star. What a fantastic modern soul tune! More info please... It was brought up (by yourself) in a thread on this forum in January: /Strutt-t63822.html Regards, Melismo
  13. Hi Ian! Thanks for providing the info. Looking forward to full playlist and upload of your latest show. Cheers, Mel
  14. Hi there Tony! Only recently (Oct 4) I realised that you´re also a member of this forum...LOL... Enjoyed the latest show and the Webster Lewis track was my favourite oldie whereas the Marlon D vs Mena Keys ft Max C was my favourite newie. The latter mainly for the great Charlie Wilson type of vocals - great stuff indeed. Cheers, Melismo
  15. Probably not what you were hoping for, but here is the post that appeared at the back of my mind, when you played that Van Jones track: https://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?fo...hreadid=1946114 Best, Melismo

  17. Hi Bob! Thanks for posting playlist and sound file upload. Enjoyed the show, my personal favorites + spontaneous `stream-of-consciousness´ comments: Larry Craig and the Third Addition - Do it again (Great vocals and wonderful song.) Love Affair - I can't stop loving you (Not to be confused with the well known pop group by the same name of course.) Hearts of Stone - If I could give you the world (Got an album by that group methinks.) David Peoples - Got to get my broom out (English is not my native tongue, but does "Got to get my broom out" mean what I think it means (LOL)?! Thinking of the classic "Dust My Broom" which is a very dirty song.) Unity - We can make it (Very nice tune. Once again, there are several groups by this name. For instance I have a full album by a soul group called Unity, but probably not the same people at all.) Van Jones - Your love is like a high If I´m not mistaken Van Jones was discussed just the other day on another forum that I´m a member of. Great record all the same! Fred Moss - I'll always love you (Ultra-soulful.) ...and a very nice Dee Warwick tribute. By her I´ve got some albums and 45s + a CD comp, so much great stuff. Very underrated singer indeed. One of the best soul singers no doubt. Cheers, Melismo

  19. Hi Sean! Chester "Lyfe" Jennings is a great talent. With 1 EP and 3 full albums below his belt he ought to crossover to the mainstrean. Has been accepted by the urban crowd, but I think he has the kind of rough soulfulness that we associate with the Bobby Womacks and Johnnie Taylors so he should appeal to most soulies. He ought to be a major star. I like his first album, do not rate his second effort that highly, but think he´s back to form with his third album which is currently available via all the usual sources: https://www.amazon.com/Lyfe-Change-Jennings...1745&sr=1-1 And what a life story. At the age of 15 he was sentenced to 10 years of prison (for Arson!), and when he got out he started recording music, the first album got its name from his prison number 268-192! Cheers, Melismo

Will check out the Next Movement/Magical Connection interview too. Very much looking forward to hearing it. Best regards Mel
