  1. Looking forward to you joining us this weekend.
  2. Cracking afternoon. Well done to all concerned with making this place tick. I don't know why but my legs feel a bit stiff today.
  3. Sunday 18th October. An event that never fails to deliver. Four DJ'S, each with a slightly different feel for the 60s Music genre, but each of them bringing material that fits the brief. Atmospheric venue. Whether place is filled to capacity or not it always delivers. We will be back.

    Hydro Soul Club

Hydro Soul Club Shildon Masonic Hall. DL4 1NJ Co. Durham. It's the fourth Saturday of the month and we are all set for another classic Northern Soul night. Dance Dance Dance is the main focus, so bring your dance shoes and get "Out On The Floor". Doors open 7 p.m. Guest for this one is Richard Cryer. Julie and Richard have been the mainstay behind Drax and its sister event Eggborough for over 20 yrs. Sadly Eggborough no longer exists but the sound and memories are still with us. Our guest DJs continue to entertain our Dance orientated crowd and myself Kev Richardson and Mick Boyes will be there to add support.
  5. You got that right Carl. The old place is history now. We are moving on now, not quite the epilogue but we might be well into the final chapter possibly.

Hydro Soul Club Shildon Masonic Hall Co. Durham DL4 1NJ September sees Carl Piper as guest DJ. Carl has graced our old venue during the previous 20yrs and has expressed his sadness at the loss of such a soulful club but is excited to be part of the rebuild as we try to create a similar atmosphere at the Masonic Hall. Last month Mick Grimes inspired the dancers with a cracking set of old school material and was well supported by Mick Boyes and your's truly during the rest of the night. Cracking turnout last month near capacity, so looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another soulful session.

    Hydro Soul Club

Hydrof Soul Club at Shildon Masonic Hall Co. Durham DL4 1NJ. Saturday August 27th. 7 p.m til m/n. £4.00 on the door. Our 2nd event in this venue which has excellent potential for the future if our original venue becomes redundant. Last month was an absolute pleasure to be involved with as many of our regulars joined us along with several whom we hadn't seen for a while. With Mick Grimes, this months guest DJ, bringing knowledge and old school soul music experience to the night, it promises to be another night for dancers. Residents Kev Richardson & Mick Boyes.
  9. Arthur Conley got dance floor appreciation from a number of dancers last night Andy. The artist and sounds that were there when that music was being played still resonates for many of us. By choosing to play that request you chose not only to respect the guy who requested it but also everyone who was around when the scene was created and still show appreciation on the dance floor. If the record is in your box and someone requests it then, providing the record fits in with what tunes your playing when the request is made, which in this case it did, then there isn't any reason not to play it. No need to make excuses because one supporter disliked your choice of record. It's not possible to please everyone so don't bother trying. Your floor, in my opinion, doesn't need talc. We danced throughout the night and didn't need talc. At this time of year, muggy atmosphere, it is not unusual for floors to become a little sticky. We enjoyed the night. 2hr 20 min drive both ways was worth the effort. I thank you again for allowing me the freedom to play my choices for which I was more than happy with words of appreciation and dance floor support.

  15. We wouldn't miss this one. I'm carrying an injury, calf muscle strain. I'll be trying to put one foot in front of another but I know her in doors will give it her best. Congratulations on yet another anniversary. Well done Carl and all who have kept this venue at the same level as when it was first conceived.
  16. Nice to meet you Martin. The Clara Ward is a track that I have only been requested to play once previously in the 30 yrs that I've owned it. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Hydro Soul Club is not advertised on SS at this time. The venue has a page on FB but is only available to invited members. Look me up on FB and I'll give you the details.
A venue that always does what it promises. A crowd who travel from near and far but all there to enjoy the atmosphere created by a love of old school NS. Carl Piper has always made myself and Ann feel welcome and the venue offers us what we look for and is the reason why we travel. Obviously we hold Carl and the memory of Ian Gee very high amongst our soul family of friends and appreciate that Barry has now taken on a role to help the organisation and operation of this treasured soul venue. Great sets played by all of the DJs who contributed to a memorable NYE at Kingsway Hall and although it was apparent that the punters were pacing themselves for a very long night they showed full appreciation for everything the DJs put out for them. Thanking the travelling soulies for their enthusiasm, especially in a period when every journey is considered to have a level of risk. Thanking Val Piper for the sandwiches and the lone bar person who serviced our needs all night. Keep on keeping on guys. We will be there for anniversary night. Already looking forward to it.
  17. Not long now. Another NYE at Kingsway Hall. Cumon Kingsway Hall, thanks to Carl & Barry for keeping the place kicking, let's get hot and sweaty.
  18. What a superb way to spend a Sunday. Well worth the trip down to be treated to a few hours of sounds that were the bedrock of what most of us have enjoyed throughout our lives. Having been involved with soul music since my mid teens I'm still hearing sounds that I've never come across. Thanking all who keep this club kicking. Pete Everett...keep on keeping on. Thanks for keeping this old guy dancing.
  19. We will be there too Pete. Looking forward to another step back in time.
  20. And we will be joining you. We'll worth the journey. Always something fresh to listen to.
Thanks Carl & Barry for inviting me to join the line up. Our first visit since the venue reopened. Well worth the journey. The appreciation shown by an enthusiastic group of dance floor warriors was testament enough for the record selection but the positive comments at the end of the spot by several hot and sweaty dancers really put the icing on the cake. I've been invited to make a return trip on NYE so that gives us something to look forward to as the winter draws on. We look forward to sharing the dance floor again with a crowd who continue to keep faith with the old school policy of this club that has been part of the scene for over 20 yrs. Keep as safe as you are able but enjoy your free time as much as possible. Kev & Ann
  21. Happy Cats isn't the only tune we share my friend. I'm sure we will have enough ammunition to keep the dancers happy. Ray Ray...you ain't heard nothing yet. It's a privilege to be invited back to Kingsway Hall after such a long lay off. The Hydro in Aycliffe is back on track although we are still restricting guest numbers as well as maintaining Covid protocols. It's a different world but we have to try to find our way. Ann & I are really looking forward to catching up with our friends in the Mansfield/Chesterfield area.
  22. Looking forward to seeing you again Carl. Safe journey my friend.
  23. The club is situated on the Ineos/Inovyn works site. Access to the club is via the security entrance. You will need to have some form of photo i.d with you to show at the gate, this is required for everyone in your vehicle. You will need to stop at the barrier, leave you vehicle and sign in at the security gate. Please show respect for the security people who are there doing a job of work for the company. They have nothing to do with the operation of the social club and are working a 12 hr nightshift. This may seem a bit of an arse about but it is entirely necessary and once you get used to the process it becomes part of the normal process. I thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
