  6. Anyone else notice that those buying Stax records before Otis crossed over to the pop buying public were refered to as "anoracs". Surely well informed, hip, ahead of their time, would have been better. John
  7. I was playing our local pub December before last, when a drunk with a snowman jumper asked me for some christmas songs like Slade.
  8. I have the fancy logo one, bought from Neil Rushton about '77 for £2 along with "operator" - never thought either were rare or hard to find. Would not want to sell as one of my faves - and at the right pace for me to be able to dance to from start to finish. John
  9. I think the version you want is on you tube - record using Audacity or Polderbit - then burn to cd. Surely not as good as the Contempo release though. John
  10. If £1000 + is out of your price range (it is for me - one of Cameron's Casualties) a legit Chuck Cockerham is available on a 8 track 10in. lp - Fillet Of Sol. There is one now for £14 on discogs, although you can get one on ebay occasionally for less than a tenner. John
  11. My offer was declined I've since had the following message "Hello..Luckey Jamal Davis is selling copies of his promo ,with letter of authentication for $999 + $60 for paypal fees and posting ,so if you can get one for $20 GOOD LUCK !Don't forget that i put a best offer ! I was given this copy at a lower price because Luckey is my friend ,but its not my favouriye music ,so i am selling it . It is not a boot because it is being sold by the owner of the record! it is not a re-issue ..promos were never issued originally in the 1960's ,so how can it be re-issue ? This is a collectors item and is limited edition ,so when they are all sold ..they will become collectors items ! thankyou and have fun! - funkitalien " John
  12. Can I add both the Doris Duke lps, mine are on Mojo, bought following the recommendation of Dave Godin in B & S. As an eighteen year old deep soul was a previously unheard of genre, and these blew my head off. I then avidly bought anything with Swamp Dogg's involvement in - never disappointed. John
  13. In "Blues & Rhythm" 83 and 84 is the definitive article on Frank Motley. Angel Face is first mentioned as appearing as the new vocalist around '53. He was featured vocalist on the Gem release "Baby it's Warm Outside" b/w Jimmy Crawford doing "J.C.'s Theme". There was an Okeh 7071 release in '56 in his own name, "I'm Gonna Stay In Love" written by Jimmy Crawford. I'm not a Blues expert, and Jay Bruder who wrote the article did not know who Angel Face was, but maybe someone might be able to confirm or not if Jimmy Crawford had an alias. John
  14. The Volcanos - Against The Laws Of Love - A philly recording surely, but sounding very Detroit to me. Listen to the instrumental side - It has the chinks and a "Mike Terry" honking away. John Lloyd
  15. I had all my badges sewn onto a knackered old Levi jacket that I'd had since I was 18 (1971). My wife always hated it and threw it out without telling me about 25 years ago - yes I'm still with her. John
  16. I won an unusual lp a couple of years ago - one side a full aretha franklin album, the other side a rascals album. He contacted me after a couple of days and said his wife dropped it on the way to the PO. It was cracked an he refunded me my money. I kept a watch on his feedback and about a week later he received positive for the same lp at a cot of 20p more than my winning bid. What can you do ? John
  17. There's A boot of Timi Yuro - INBOFM selling for £11 I could never afford the UK Liberty 45, but recently bought the UK lp in near mint condition for £6. It contains the afformentioned plus many other gems. Why buy the boot? John
  18. Voices 17 had an article written by Mike Charlton that states a 1977 recording of "It's Never Too Late" was re-released in the mid 1980's on RAM. His next "recording" "Where Did I Go Wrong" came out in 1990. No mention of this being a re-release. Not conclusive I know John
  19. I've just bought "Make Way For Jean Dushon" and have been trying to find her "Feeling Good" lp. I've not seen it on ebay, there are none for sale on cdandlp or discogs, and a google search shows nothing. How rare is this album?

  22. If this was the Soul-Tay-Shus release it still available from Tuff City Records - the manufacturers - for $12.99 Great cd, a must have.
  23. In a 6 month period 1971/72, I saw Ray Charles, The Ike and Tina Revue, and Stevie Wonder at The Colston Hall, Bristol. (The Colston Hall named after a Bristol Merchant who made his money from the slave trade, a subject of much debate recently in the local paper) Ray was relaxed as he performed all his well known hits. Tina and the Ikettes were pure sex. Stevie had just started to "experiment" and much of the crowd were not happy, shouting for him to play "some soul". John
  24. She recorded "how Sweet It Is" for Levines Motorcity set-up 20 odd years ago. It appears on various reissue cd,s. John
