Hi Sam, I've sent you a PM. Cheers Stuart -
Page 132 of Keith Rylatt's "Groovesville USA" has a photo of a clip from Billboard magazine... apparently Lambert and Stamp moved one Nancy Lewis from London to New York to run their US operation. The short article explains how they were trying to forge a 'third force' in England's R&B field by looking for ties with small R&B labels in the States.

About four years ago I found the Fascinations 'Girls Are Out To Get You' on a Stateside demo in a Salvation Army in Lancing, West Sussex. I'd almost given up looking through record boxes in charity shops as they only ever seemed to have 80s pop records. And in the same box was an original Billy Butler 'Right Track' on Okeh, Darrell Banks on Stateside and the AdLibs 'Boy From New York City' on Red Bird.

Hi Andy, PM'd you about the Radiants. Cheers Stuart -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD9lzH0X8lE&feature=youtube_gdata_player Found this as well... Belgian dj/producer Zamali made a name for himself on both the internet/blog scene and in the DJ community for his trademark soulful & funky 7" & 12" boots with Motown flavor on Michigan Imprint back in 2008. Zamali's produced personal tracks on several Ep mainly released on the great funky label Timewarp Music(also on Funky Mama's & Papa's, Pig Balls records, Manmade records, Bombastic Jam records, Katakana edits, Mustbeat Crew rec.) & remixes for people such as Tal M Klein, Timewarp inc., Umbo, Dj Prosper, Dj Max & Gabb, Dj Kid Stretch, Danny Massure, Pulpfusion, Afternoons In Stereo, Quincy Jointz, Basement Freaks, Prazsnik, Afternoon In Stereo, Yomakomba,Dj Prosper, Léon, Cmc & Silenta, Grand Mother Funck Ft Akil The Mc and will surely bring many more funky bombs in the future.

Info On The Professionals -That's Why I Love You
Stuart Russell replied to Mrtag's topic in Look At Your Box
Richard Watt wrote this for the 45th issue of Manifesto in 2003. He doesn't reveal much that hasn't been aired here already, but it's an interesting read anyway. And attached is Richard's gold copy. Detroit El Dorado Subject: Rare Detroit, single item Date: mid eighties Location: 3 miles NE of Bolton After many abortive trips, I had convinced my ageing soul fanatic friend and erstwhile DJ, that he would be better concentrating on exclusive '70s/'80s product. The plan had been to display my "total" knowledge of unknown '70s gained over many years lurching around the Mecca and in particular Mr Diamond's box - not his lunchbox, I hasten to add. To my horror, I quickly realised that my target already had all the '70s and '80s rarities I had, but, even worse everything I didn't have. For example, rather unfairly, the only item I didn't have on Sound Gems was there hiding in a corner, Billy Harner's "I Got it from Heaven"! Despite this setback, I pressed on aware that my friend had temporarily lost interest in rare '60s mainly as a result of continually being asked to play the same records at every venue he attended. I naturally sympathised with this, denounced all overplayed sounds, and at the same time put to one side, one or too that we agreed were not just overplayed but clearly could be classified as totally shagged out! I was a little surprised to find that my "stash" included Al Williams, the Inspirations on Breakthrough, Professionals and four or five more of equal rarity. I drove North with one, Al Williams, but despite all sorts of pressure nothing else. Now as any self respecting collector knows you have to strike while the iron is hot; sadly I failed badly, as within a week the rest of my stash had mysteriously vanished. Smarting badly and with nothing better to exert pressure than the fact that the records had been "promised" to me, nevertheless another visit was planned. Undertakings were given - I would cease being a pest but efforts would be made to find me a Professionals. Fast forward to the late '80s, when look what turns up unannounced free of charge. Groove City 101, yes...Sound Inc C10045 in the dead wax, yes...The Professionals, yes...but the vinyl is GOLD! And this isn't some reincarnated pressing, as the dead wax details match my own copies of Gail Nevels and Gwen Owens. I do know now who brought this particular item in to the UK but just how did this Northern classic get issued on gold vinyl " surely not advertising...answers to the Ed. RICHARD í"¹"Â WATT -

Does anybody have a copy of Bring It To Jerome/Pretty Thing on Checker for sale? I'm interested in the original 1955 copy with the 'web' design and script lettering, not the later issue with the type in a vertical column. Nor the repro demo that is around now. PM me please. Cheers Stuart

I have three copies of Keith Rylatt's Groovesville USA: The Detroit Soul & R&B Index book which have been damaged in the post and returned to us by Amazon. One has a creased back cover, and the other two have dents at the base of the spine. Otherwise they are as new. They normally sell for £27.50 plus P&P but these are £18 including postage. The All Music Guide To Soul (ISBN 0879307447) is a good reference book that covers pretty much everything in some detail. Not perfect, but quite comprehensive. Robert Prouter's Chicago Soul covers the Windy City thoroughly and if you want to know about Detroit soul and R&B then Keith Rylatt's Groovesville USA is excellent. I should know as I published it! Cheers Stuart

This should be a good read - Clive's always had a way with words. I remember his review of Major Lance's Torch album which came out on Contempo. He described it as 'without doubt, the worst live LP ever made/issued... and as a public service gesture I moulded it into a flowerpot'. Stuart

Hi Franc, The system assumes that if you were to buy the two items separately then they would both need shipping costs added, which would make it more expensive. Hope that explains it! Cheers Stuart

A quick update on the above, once you've entered the discount code, it will tell you that this has been applied to your order. However you still have to select a shipping option which will be deducted at the next stage. Teach me not to check it out before hand! Sorry Stuart
