  4. Not easy: Homer Banks - Sweetie Pie (Genie) Chances - A Better Day Is Coming (Finch) (I know, it`s more Gospel then Soul and the Chances /Five Chances can`t play or sing...but this record makes my day more than once) Ben Monroe - Broken Home (Dakar) Emmitt Long - Call Me (Donoyia) And Job Opening or Soul Searcher...I don`t know
  5. Hi Marc, I hope it`s the right board . For me most of these sounds (call it R`n`B or whatever you like) are ROCKERS. An really old (he must be 70+ meanwhile) record dealer from Hamburg teached me about his past in the 60`s. When he was young, he and all his mates call this stuff ROCKERS. I like this old man and all his funny stories from the Star Club era to death...so I use his term as a kind of respect. He sold records for more than 40 years and he still is a real Rocker! Cu in Bamberg All the best Ralf btw: DOROTHY BERRY is on hold

  7. Hello Pete, that`s the real thing. Thanks!! (Love the forum sometimes and always the above record...(but hate the rarity/price of the Magnetics).
  8. Maybe some of you experts can help. There`s this DVD docu about the Cleethorpes Weekender with Maxine Brown... After the DJ dance competetion and the pool party scenes the camera takes a few snippets from a chalet-party with some well known characters drinking and singing along. ...and there`s this nice record on the portable player (black label with silver or white writings, doo-wop`ish male vocal group soul with lotsa ohh`s and ahh`s...like it, but can`t locate it). If somebody can help ... THANKS A LOT R.
  9. Hello, Jan told me about the Kartenhaus problem. I`m really sorry to hear what happened. The MS Hedi promoter gave them around 20 tickets for the boat trip on sunday (no tickets for the Allnighters at the Mandarin Kasino) and they sold approx 10 of them. The Kartenhaus sell tickets for most of the concerts/music events in Hamburg for more than 10 years. The MS Hedi boat promoter sell his tickets regulary via Kartenhaus and told me that he had never problems before. We will not work with them again in the future and we hope none of the 10 soulies who ordered the boat tickets there have some following problems with their credit cards. Sorry, but it`s not our fault. This can happen anywhere and everywhere nowadays. All the best Ralf
  10. ...for sentimental reasons defo: T.S.U. Toronados After seeing Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Hutton, Maxine Brown, Al Wilson, Edwin Starr, Tommy Hunt, The Flirtations, The Four Tops, Dee Dee Sharp (in front of the twin-towers in N.Y.), Bobby Hebb, Little Ann, the Temptations and a lot more over the years...there`s one outstanding: Joe Bataan played with his band in Hamburg a few weeks ago...and hell...that was really a night to remember!!! Never saw anything like that before...and I hope the Latin Soul brother No.1 will come back soon to Europe.
  11. Your right Roccia...Northern Soul (as a scene) is a british thing. ....but the music is international. I can`t say I`m anglophile. I love Soul and I`m german. It`s not my fault...(my parents started the whole trouble 37 years ago).
  12. Hi Timber, there`s no reason to attack you...but things changed over the years and maybe you only attend the scooterists-orientated venues in the early 90`s. There is much more to do nowadays than standing with a bottle of beer on the dancefloor. You can visit very well promoted Weekenders in Frankfurt, Bamberg, Nuremberg and next week first time in Hamburg. There are so many nice and great DJs with brilliant collections over here you don`t know. Just a few of them started in the scooterists-scene (I know what you mean..). Think most of us were influenced by the U.K. Soul Scene in the mid 80`s/early 90`s...but meanwhile most of us are around the 35-45 and we build up our own scene (nearly without the whole politics like in the U.K.) apart from the scooter-thing. ...and my arse...the DJs can`t dance... Ralf
  13. We did this with Italian Scooters both the Mod scene and the soul scene are ours but we have others, Punk, Teddy Boys, New romantics, Skinheads, Goths, Chavs, there are many more iconic Great British youth cults but none from Europe? You do not respect the dance floor and the majority do not respect the music.
  14. Hi Dave, I agree with your whole statements apart from the start of the scene. The first `Soul Allnighter` happened 1983 up north (and it`s still running after 24 years in a row). ...but Hamburg-St. Pauli is absolutely contrary to your descriptions about a clean and safe place (love it!). No real danger...but...you`ll find out for your own in 10 days! See you at the Airport Ralf
  15. `They all sing at the corner` ...fantastic read about the pre-soul/doo-wop scene in New York and around 30 nice photos from all our heroes, when they were young and on stage.
  16. Hi there, anyone got the price for Sam and Dave - You Ain`t No Big Thing Baby (King U.K.)? Was it released in the states as well? Can`t find anything about the record apart from an old Pele article in Shades of Soul No.25. Thanks for infos R
  17. Limmie - Saturday Night`s The Night (Psycho) Gene Chandler - Blind Heart send pm if you got one for sale cheers ralf
  18. Hey, maybe something for the Supremes completist: 1. The Supremes - Thank You Darling/Jonny And Joe (Ger CBS with picture cover) VG+ (Jonny and Joe is the german version of `Come See About Me`--- Thank You Darling was written by Busch/Scharfenberger...so it`s a weird mixture of Motown, german Schlager and was just released over here) 50 U.K. pounds 2. The Supremes - Moonlight And Kisses/Baby, Baby, Wo Ist Unsere Liebe (Ger CBS with piture cover) EX+ (Baby is the german version of `Where Did Our Love Go` --- Moonlight was also written by B./S...so you know what expecting you). 70 U.K. pounds ...or both together for 100 pounds incl. p&p Cash in registered letter or personal cheques only Bye Ralf
  19. ...but there seems to be an unwritten rule in the world of DJing... If you pay a lot of your hard earned money for rare soul records...you didn`t get much for DJing... ...but if you play cheap tekkno-shite...you`ll earn 1.000s of Euros for a set. Why? I don`t know. Is it just to show the rest of the world that you do it for the love of the music? Heaven knows.
  20. Nordic Soul is in the know!!! Smoking was not banned in Nazi Germany...but a new law from our leaders from Berlin will stop it on 01.10.2007 in Clubs over here as well . Hope we can smoke as much as possible on our Weekender in early october without any problems... Like the 25.000 peoples at the G8 meeting demonstrations last weekend had on theire shirts `A better world is possible`.
  21. It must have been in 1994. I was living in Aachen near the belgium border at the time. After a heavy weekend I needed an extra free day from work so I walked to my doctor. He was one of those hippy-veterans, a nice chap and he looked more like being into Kraut Rock then Black Music. I was wearing a Northern Soul T-Shirt that day and he asked me if it`s about Soul from Detroit and Chicago. So we had a little conversation and he told me that he was into Sweet and Deep Soul. A few days after my visit we met at my flat. He had brought a big cardboard box full of 7" records on the carrier of his bicycle and we swopped a few. He gave me Tommy Tate - I`m Taking On Pain and Helen Troy - I Think I Love You and a few more for 5 cheap Sweet Soul records from my collection. At this time I didn`t know that Helen Troy was getting a few spins in the U.K. as a cover up. I put it on a tape for our Nuremberg Weekender and a few month later I heard from a mate from Munich that a well known U.K. fanzine editor was really pissed about that...because he played it as his cover up. Sorry Mr.Pearson. But the best was buying Ella Woods - I Need Your Love for 5 quid from Pat Bradys bargain list in approx 1989.
  22. I know there was a thread about strange cardboard recordmailers a while ago...but I was a little surprised after the postman`d rang my bell two days ago. I had a really nice contact to a seller from the U.K.. He`d send out the record fast and the grading/price for the record was absolutely fair....but... ...he must build his record mailers in his hobbycellar...I looked into the thin grey cardboard box...and there was a picture of a plate with rice and a brown mudsauce: `Chilli con carne (with rice) TESCO Any 5 for 4 quid` This picture looks so disgusting at 9.30h in the morning...
