  3. If there's one guy who seems to be overlooked and who would surely have some great stories that would be Garry Cape think of the artists hes met and the records he's turned over and the unissued things he's found! Great bloke too! Good thread and im sure there'll be more names to add yet Dave Longy

  7. i was told in the states the drill hole was put through rendering the record from new and making it void from some tax,but best I was told by a couple of older guys here in uk as i got into the northern collecting scenes when i asked about the drill holes i was told " so that they could be carried on the cargo planes a wire ran through them all the way down the plane from which all these records hung" can you imagine threading a plane full of 45s this way hey and these knobheads beleived it themselves dave L
  8. you can volunteer to be vat registered on a lot less than the actual amount pete but i get your point ! dave L
  9. oh dear one great soul man after another with george jacksonthis week as well, my brother is in touch with his son and i actually finished my set at the red bar wakefield with "i'm so glad you're mine"one of our favourite ever tunes, his last contact a couple of weeks ago was to goerges son to tell his father how well his music is loved over here(,think his son is named after him george jnr) anyway glad to say he had passed the message onto george who was really pleased to hear that he was very much appreciated over here, "....ah could cr........y"..... dave L
  10. great footage thanks for posting this dave L
  11. the thing is i don't think Darrell wrote ' any other songs' where as Donnie Elbert did and to write something as classic as "door to your heart" was surely done by someone who had a knack of writing more than one song dave L
  12. r.i.p George one of my favourite ever writers and performer
  13. real sad to hear this i was talking to willie hill in atlanta last october and asked him if he knew george he replied "he could write a 'hook' line from heaven in his songs" he was bang on,one of my favourites gone forever but leaves us a legacy of songs, and thanks to the likes of garry cape for putting the unreleased George J material all them years ago and turning more people onto the great George Jackson.R.I.P
  14. you maybe thinking of "we can make it happen" on lax as well great record as well not as in demand "for real" by a long shot but just as soulful imo dave L

  17. good thread this steve hard to say bargains it all depends when you got it and what going rate of the record at the time if you get my drift, anyway after taking my son to halifax one cold pissing down sunday morningto watch him play rugby (league of course) with my wife and younger daughter in tow wet rhrough and knees knocking with cold i decidee]d to have look in the piece hall market wall of sound second hand record shop( left frozen wife and kids in the car) looked through his soul box ,came across a couple of pzazz 45s little janice, len jewell boot, but this is crunch bit i swear to you i said in my mind as pulled first pzazz 45 up "wouldn't it be good if there was a Primbrock Skiggs"that was yesterday" in here" 3rd 45 up popped Primbrock Skiggs £2.50 ! at the time it was only rated around £15-20 but this was 1992-3 and still not easy to find and work was tight anyway result for me got back to the car grinning like a dog with 2 dicks waving record to said soaked and cold wife and kids and not one of them congratulated me on my find what's up with folks i thought can't they be pleased for you just once dave longy ps still got said 45 played it at redbar sat night went down great

  19. that's more or less my take on it dave but just to add i used to get some nice stuff of Mike Ward at the pheonix no house or garage but real soul barely a year old lost touch with him after fleetwood weekenders finished but he was bang up to date with out the house/garage tag,if he still getting the same kind of stuff as back then count me in! great thread this nick by the way

  21. nice just noticed mr briton going for usual smoke break
  22. gotta disagree with you there mate especially when backing singers fade out and backing music virtually disappears to leave mr white to go into overdrive the very essence of what soul music is about, hope that hasn't made you regret giving it away dave Dave L
  23. pretty sure it's only on the issue copy mate b-side of never repay your love and far better than the lp version great record dave L
